Fall 2023 dual-credit courses now posted

Student request forms due by FRIDAY, MARCH 24

Current onsite and distance learning dual-credit (both high school and college) course offerings for the Fall 2023 semester are listed at the bottom on this page. These classes will be held in WHS classrooms and the WHS Learning Lab. If you see a course(s) you would like to take next semester, simply click on the WHS Dual Credit/SENCAP Career Academy Request Form link posted at the bottom of this page. Print the form, fill it out, and return it to Wahoo High School Counselor John Harris by Friday, March 24, 2023. Printed forms will also be available in the library and the high school office.

Keep in mind that filling out this form DOES NOT guarantee you a placement in a course; it is simply a request to enroll in a course(s). Placement in a course is secured once all prerequisites have been verified, and the official college registration form is submitted by the student/parents.

Unless approved otherwise, students applying to the distance learning program are expected to have an ACT score of 18 or higher, OR have taken the Accuplacer test with the minimum score required by the college offering the course(s) of interest. Students are also expected to have demonstrated positive behavior during their high school tenure, and should not have a history of discipline referrals, detentions, etc.

Tuition, book costs, and fees will apply to the majority of these courses. Most courses are offered for dual-enrollment credit. Occasionally a course may only be taught for college credit. This will be noted next to the course name. Courses taught by college instructors who do not have high school certification CANNOT be accepted for high school credit. For college credit and dual enrollment courses, be sure to check with your chosen college or university to verify transfer of credit eligibility.

PLEASE NOTE: Oftentimes we are able to offer ON-SITE courses, where Southeast Community College will provide an instructor who travels to Wahoo High School. For the past few years, for example, we have been able to co-op with Ashland-Greenwood to offer a variety of courses on-site. There is a minimum enrollment requirement in order to offer these classes. Because of this requirement, it is important that we maintain a minimum number once committing to a course. As a result, we ask that students firmly commit to these courses once they sign up.

In addition, each course will follow the calendar of the school/college offering the course; thus, it may be necessary at times for a student to attend a distance learning course on a day when Wahoo High School is not in session. Your attendance will be monitored and recorded just like any other high school class, and you are expected to attend all class sessions, unless you have an excused absence (which, with the exception of illness, should be arranged with the instructor in advance).

FINANCIAL AID IS AVAILABLE FOR THESE COURSES. Nebraska's Coordinating Commission for Post-Secondary Education offers Access College Early (ACE) Scholarships, which pays tuition and mandatory fees for qualified, low-income high school students to enroll in college courses from Nebraska's colleges or universities. For more information about financial aid, contact Wahoo High School Counselor John Harris or WHS Principal Vernon Golladay. Students who obtain a scholarship for these courses are expected to complete the courses with a grade of 'C' or better. Students with scholarships who achieve a grade lower than 'C' will be required to reimburse the original scholarship amount to the district.

PLEASE NOTE: Any student registering for a dual/SENCAP course, then transferring out of the Wahoo Public Schools District will be immediately billed full tuition for any dual/SENCAP course(s) in which the student is enrolled. Full payment must be made prior to check out from Wahoo Public Schools. Students will have a W/F (Withdrawal/Fail) on college and WHS transcripts.

ACE Plus Scholarship Program
Students who have previously received an ACE scholarship may be eligible for the new ACE Plus Scholarship Program. Please click HERE to read more information about this program. Questions pertaining to the ACE Plus Scholarship Program should be directed to Wahoo High School Counselor John Harris.
