Warrior Girls left their mark at the Dec. 11 West Point-Beemer Invite, bringing home two first place medals, a runner-up medal, and an impressive fourth place team finish out of 22 competing schools!

In the season’s second week, the Wahoo Girls Wrestling Team traveled to West Point-Beemer High School for the Battle at the Point. The Warriors put forth a very strong showing in a field featuring 22 teams (including four of the top seven teams in the preseason NSWCA rankings), finishing in fourth place with all six wrestlers qualifying for the championship brackets out of pool play.

At 165 pounds, junior Kaylee Ricketts continued her undefeated campaign by pinning her way to the championship, going 5-0 on the day. Not to be outdone, fellow junior Marke Zeleny made her season debut, collecting 5 pins herself and a championship.

At 138 pounds, it was time for the freshmen to shine, as Karina Raney went 4-1 on the day with 4 pins on her way to her second runner-up finish in as many weeks. Also at 138 pounds, Jessi Hasenkamp’s only defeat in her pool was to Raney. She then joined her teammate on the podium with a fourth place finish after a hard-fought consolation final loss to end a 3-2 day (3 pins).

In the 120-pound weight class, first year junior Grace Darling collected her first 3 wins of the year en route to a fifth place finish. All three wins were by pin.

The team’s other first year junior, Katie Elder, also collected her first 3 wins of the season. Elder finished in seventh place, going 3-2 on the day with her first pin.

Next week the Warriors will hit the road on Tuesday for a dual with Nebraska City (at Blair alongside the boys triangular) before returning home for the inaugural Wahoo Girls Wrestling Invitational on Friday, December 17.
