Dear Parents/Guardians,

Schools and communities must be prepared for a variety of emergency situations. Our school has established plans and has prepared for major emergency situations. We believe a person’s reaction to an emergency situation depends largely on their training and practice beforehand.

This letter is to inform you that your student has been learning how to respond at school during an emergency situation. He/she is learning how to react, where to assemble, and what to expect in an emergency situation. Wahoo Public Schools uses the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which includes five main drills: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.

It is strongly encouraged that you also review these procedures at home with your child. We also encourage you to talk with your child about what to do at home, if an emergency situation should happen there. Furthermore, it is important that children memorize their address and phone numbers in the case of a crisis situation.

Providing for your child’s safety when at school in our care is a major responsibility of our staff. The entire staff at Wahoo Public Schools has been educated and trained on a variety of situations and will be prepared to make prompt and responsible decisions in any situation that could threaten the safety of the students.

In the event that a major disaster should happen during school, information will be sent out to parents/guardians. Do not call the school. It is essential that telephone lines are open for emergency calls. Also, avoid traffic congestion at the school by not driving immediately to the school. Access to the school and street entrance areas must remain clear for emergency vehicles.
