Fall 2025 Dual Credit Course Information
DUAL CREDIT/COLLEGE CREDIT LEARNING INFORMATION
Dual Credit Program Information
A variety of dual credit learning opportunities are offered at Wahoo High School. Students and parents need to carefully research the needs/wants of the student as well as the prerequisites required by the college to take such courses. Students may be required to have taken the ACT (4-year college entrance test), or a 2-year college's entrance exam (in Nebraska, this is typically called the Accuplacer Next Generation test) prior to being allowed to enroll in dual credit classes. Scores from these tests must meet the college's prerequisite for the course the student is interested in taking as a high school student. Wahoo High School must comply with the college's prerequisite requirements.
Students and parents need to determine whether a college the student is applying to for admission will accept the dual credit courses the student plans to take in high school as transfer credit to that college. Students and their parent/guardians are responsible for all college costs, which include: college tuition, fees, textbooks, as well as knowing the college's drop/add or withdraw dates. Financial assistance may be available for students who meet free/reduced lunch guidelines. See the high school counselor for more information.
Dual credit enrollment courses are offered through a statewide consortium, consisting of numerous Nebraska high schools and two-year and four-year colleges. Wahoo High School typically participates in dual enrollment course that are offered through Southeast Community College (SCC). Dual credit courses are NOT to replace required classes for graduation at WHS. For example, Southeast Community College’s American History after 1877 cannot replace WHS's U.S. History, but students may take both during the same semester.
Some SCC dual credit courses are taught in a face-to-face manner. These courses are considered “core discipline” courses, like English Composition or College Algebra, and traditionally meet general education requirements at most colleges and universities. Enrolled students will be responsible for paying the tuition for these types of courses. Wahoo Public Schools (WPS) will generally provide all text material required for these types of courses.
Other SCC dual credit courses are taught online. These courses tend to be more career-focused, allowing students the opportunity to explore college-level coursework in a career field of their interest. Enrolled students will be responsible for paying the tuition and for purchasing all text/materials required for an SCC dual credit online course.
As a participant in Southeast Community College’s (SCC) dual credit courses and activities, an enrolled student:
1. is responsible for maintaining clear and consistent communication, regarding assignments, absences or other course expectations, with the SCC dual credit instructor(s) throughout the time the student is enrolled in a course(s). Wahoo High School (WHS) staff will not contact a SCC dual credit instructor in this regard.
2. is responsible for the purchase of all textbooks and needed materials PRIOR to the start of any dual credit course, provided that Wahoo High School doesn’t purchase the text for that specific class.
3. is responsible for the paying the tuition and fees associated with all dual credit classes.
3. is responsible to meet any testing and assignment deadlines set by SCC dual credit instructors.
4. understands that SCC dual credit college grades and percentages will be included on his/her WHS transcript. If all course and school requirements are met, upon the successful completion of each SCC dual credit course, an enrolled student will earn five (5) credits at WHS. NOTE: IF A STUDENT WITHDRAWS FROM A CLASS AFTER THE FIRST WEEK OF COURSEWORK, A “WITHDRAW/FAIL” (W/F) WILL BE PLACED ON THE HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT AND THE STUDENT WILL RECEIVE A 0% FOR THE CLASS AND ZERO CREDITS. THIS WILL COUNT TOWARDS THE STUDENT’S OVERALL GRADE POINT AVERAGE AND CLASS RANKING AT WAHOO HIGH SCHOOL.
5. must adhere to the college’s calendar and schedule for class attendance and deadlines for assignments, quizzes, tests, etc., not WHS’s calendar and deadlines.
6. is responsible to meet SCC’s attendance policies for required events or activities. Excessive tardies or absences may result in being dropped from the program, which in turn may result in the loss of tuition and other costs paid and the student/guardian will be responsible for all tuition, etc.
7. may be required to leave the WHS campus during the regular school day for SCC career fairs, job-shadowing opportunities and similarly related activities required by the course teachers/staff. It is the responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian to call the WHS office and excuse the student’s absence.
8. has parental permission to transport him/herself, or take advantage of transportation secured by SCC and/or WHS staff for any off- campus SCC activities associated with a dual credit course.
9. agrees that if he/she transfers out of the WPS district, that student or parent will remain responsible for paying the tuition, fees, etc. for all active SCC course(s). Wahoo High School will not be responsible for any costs associated with courses in which the student is enrolled.
10. assumes responsibility for verifying that SCC courses will transfer to a particular postsecondary institution as well as whether the earned credits will or will not count toward an identified major and/or general education requirements.
More specific information about the dual credit courses can be found in the Wahoo High School Curriculum Guide, which can be found on the school’s website, under the High School tab.
