Speech Students Get Creative
Students Research the History of Popular Everyday Items

This subject was the topic for a speech assignment in Mrs. Diane Reece’s Speech class. Students researched inventions and then transferred the information into an organized speech. The inventor’s creativity was emphasized as students worked to use their own creativity to develop “attention getters” to begin their speeches.
“Creativity is a life skill,” stated Reece. “Not only is it important to think creatively when writing a speech, it has become a trait employers value.”
“We spend class time looking at objects and ideas in different ways, and always question ‘why?’,” Reece added. “As a follow-up assignment we looked at a problem-solving tool and then students were given an old CD. The assignment? Come up with another use for the ‘useless’ item. Pizza cutters, clocks, combs, jewelry, and yoyos are a few of the past creations.”
