Wahoo FCCLA Members Attend Nebraska Legislative Day
Students Interact with Senators and See Unicameral in Action
On February 6, four students from Wahoo High School spent the day with Nebraska legislators.
Aubrey Voboril, Rachel Urban, Tymber States, and Evann Vrana were selected to attend the 2012 Nebraska Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Legislative Day, sponsored by Nebraska FCCLA and Nebraska Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers.
In the morning, the students, along with those from around the state, heard from Senator Kate Sullivan and Senator Greg Adams about their job, bills they support, and the challenges and rewards associated with serving the state as State Senators.
Next, the students enjoyed a tour of the Capitol building, including the Senate Chamber and the Supreme Court. Afterward, the students were able to sit in on a legislative session and were recognized by the Senators.
The students were then treated to lunch with the Senators at the Governor’s Mansion. WHS students sat with Senator Larson of O’Neill and had the opportunity to ask him questions about his job as well as discuss FCCLA and career/technical education.
After lunch, students went to committee hearings back in the Capitol building. The students had a great time and learned a lot about the make-up and operation of our state government.
