Nate Tomjack Wins First Wahoo Chess Tournament
Trevor Carstens Captures the Middle School Prize
On Saturday, March 1, the Wahoo Public Schools held its first school championship tournament for high school and middle school students.
Eight students participated in a round-robin tournament at the high school level, with junior Nate Tomjack emerging as the last man standing, thanks to his record of six wins, one draw, and zero losses. Sophomore Ethan Harders finished second, while sophomore Josh Discher captured the third place trophy.
Next up for the Wahoo Chess Club is Morton Magnet Middle School’s second annual chess tournament in Omaha on March 14. This event crowns a team champion and individual winners.
The high school members will compete in the team state championships on March 28 in Omaha.
