2017 Warrior Cross Country ends season with Warrior Boys & Katie Pearson as State-Qualifiers!
Jacobi Swanson closes his senior year as State Medalist
October 20, 2017 (NSAA State Cross Country Championships @ Kearney)
The 2017 NSAA State Cross Country Championships were held at the Kearney Country Club on Friday, October 20. Katie Pearson and the Warrior Boys Team (Grant Crockett, Caleb Groff, Braedenn Olson, Aaron Redding, Micah Sears, and Jacobi Swanson) were the 2017 Warrior State-Qualifiers!
From Coach Karla Curran:
The conditions proved to be rather tough on Friday with strong winds gusting to over 30 mph, and overall times throughout the day solidified this fact. I was very proud of Katie Pearson and the race that she ran. At the mile, she came through in 69th place, but at each mile mark she just kept working her way up, and finished strong in 34th place. Going into the meet, I told Katie that if she finished in the top 35, she would have a good meet, so I’m glad that this goal came to fruition. I’m just sad that we only had her for one year, as she was just learning things all season "on the fly." It would have been nice to see what she could have done with another year under her belt, but such is life! I’m just thankful that she finally gave cross country a try! She’s a great girl, who will be successful in life!
For the boys, I am super proud of Jacobi and his medal-winning performance! He ran well, and accomplished his goal of finishing in the top 15 for the second year in a row. Like Katie, Jacobi didn’t have a lot of experience, with this being only his second season in cross, but he finished the season winning a medal at every race he ran. As for the remainder of the gentlemen, I would be lying if I said that I wasn't disappointed with our State performance. Aaron Redding was running injured and he gave it his all, and I am proud of him for trying. He has had a wonderful career for Wahoo, dramatically improving with each passing year. I know this wasn’t the way Aaron wanted to end his career, but I am very proud of the progress that he made, and I hope, in time, he will be, too.
It is my hope that Grant, Micah, and Braedenn use this meet as incentive to work hard over the summer, and lead our team next season to do some great things, not only in our regular season schedule, but at the state level as well. We have the talent to do so; now it’s up to these young men to put their grit and determination to the test!
