Warrior senior Silas Shellito (left) and freshman Ales Adamec have been consistent leaders on the 2021 Warrior Cross Country Team. Both earned top 15 medals at the most recent invitational at Scotus on Sept. 16.

COACH NICOLA'S SEASON RECAP

The 2021 Wahoo Cross Country Team season has come to a close, leaving many runners ready for more. Throughout the season competition for the varsity squad lead many runners to faster times. Both boy and girl seniors helped to develop the up and coming talent. They have left a mark that will continue to develop as the seasons pass.

Wahoo Front Runners

This year, we have tied for most medals on the team. Senior Silas Shellito and freshman Ales Adamec both pulled five individual medals away from the season. Silas and Ales both have competed fiercely for the number one spot all year and have bounced back and forth throughout the season. Next year Ales is looking to lead the team with continued success.

Graber Ends as a 4-Time State Qualifier

Josh Graber capped off his senior year with another trip to the State Meet. This year he ran a time of 17:51 and earned an 11th place finish at districts. He was the lone qualifier two years in a row for Wahoo High School. Josh is one of the few to earn the title of four-time qualifier at Wahoo.

PRs are Best Saved for the End

The end of the year can be a happy moment or sad moment depending on the outcome. Even though Wahoo Boys and Girls both came up short, they should be proud of their running. The team had an impressive 16 PRs out of 28 runners in the last race of the year. Both varsity and junior varsity runners pushed their times down to numbers that were unheard of all year. The girls’ varsity team narrowly missed qualifying for State when five of the six runners had a PR. Each and every runner knows where he/she can run. Now they just have to do it next year.

Senior Highlight

This year, we will be losing eight senior runners. Each runner gave it their all day in and day out. I can’t be prouder of how they finished their seasons and the impact they left on the team. The seniors will be missed as we try to fill in the space they have left. Good Luck in your future miles!

Top 10:

This select group has obtained the lowest times through all competitions. The Top 10 award is given to the five best times of both boys and girls.

Boys:

  1. Josh Graber – 17:51
  2. Silas Shellito – 18:05
  3. Ales Adamec – 18:29
  4. Logan Kleffner – 18:48
  5. Michael Robinson – 18:59

Girls:

  1. Hannah Jorgensen – 23:16
  2. Anica Gannon – 23:51
  3. Esmerelda Perez – 24:14
  4. Megan Robinson – 24:30
  5. Cadence Bailar – 24:32

Looking Forward

Next year the team looks to improve upon their times. Many of our runners were left hungry for more as they came very close to earning State qualification. This hunger will propel them to work hard in the off season in preparation for next fall.
