COACH NICOLA'S SEASON RECAP
As another season comes to an end it is time to reflect on the year’s successes. The 2022 season brought a few changes in the schedule and the team met the challenge. New courses and new teams challenged the Warriors as they ran with everything they had. The seniors started and ended their careers by creating something that can only be described as a family, and their legacy will continue to live on through the underclassmen.
Wahoo Front Runners
The 2022 season was led by Ales Adamec and Erin Golladay. Ales continued to gain speed in his sophomore year as he ran to four individual placements, along with a second-place team trophy at the Schuyler Invitational. Erin was the team’s most decorated runner as she placed in seven of the nine meets throughout the year. She looks to continue to build upon her success as runner in the next three years.
Career Bests
As the season came to a close, each runner continued to improve as they decreased their 5K times. In the last competition of the year over half of the runners posted a PR. Coaches can only dream of having each runner post a personal best in their final races. Fourteen of the 20 runners posted a season best, many of which were career bests in their last race. With all the good times, both boys and girls came up short in a very difficult field of runners at the district competition. Erin Golladay was the loan runner to earn a trip to state with her 13th place finish.
Senior Highlight
We will be saying goodbye to ten seniors this year, all of which will leave a gap that will need to be filled next year. Every senior has shown what it means to be a WARRIOR. Cross Country is a sport that is intimidating to many due to the amount of effort it takes to be successful. Many of these runners have put in the time and effort it takes to become great. As they go forth in the race of life, they will always have a chance to look back on the good times we have had as a team. Go Warriors!
Top 10
This select group has obtained the lowest times through all competitions. The Top 10 Award is given to the five best times of both boys and girls.
Boys:
- Ales Adamec – 18:06
- Logan Kleffner – 18:37
- Keegan Brigham – 18:53
- Patrik Adamec – 19:00
- Ethan Havlovic – 19:26
Girls:
- Erin Golladay – 21:21
- Anica Gannon – 23:59
- Esmerelda Perez – 24:04
- Grace Darling – 24:10
- Sam Sutton – 24:48
Looking Forward
The 2023 season has already started. Many of the runners have set personal goals to maintain their fitness and to ensure they are prepared for next season. The top four boys and top two girls will be returning next year and are looking to capitalize on this year’s successes. I look forward to training and running with next year’s group in the coming year.
