WHS StuCo members launch Socktober community service campaign
Students aim to gather at least 800 donated pairs of socks for local and state shelters
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Wahoo High School Student Council is celebrating Socktober, an annual, month-long campaign designed to show people that ordinary acts of love can be very significant.
From the Socktober website: "Every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. This October, we want 2 million people to show that even a small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless."
Last year, more than 10,000 schools, families, businesses, and churches rallied together to bring Socktober to life. People from every state and continent have taken part in Socktober, and now WPS is on that list!
Wahoo Public Schools accept donated pairs of socks (new only) from October 15 through October 26. Elementary and middle school students may bring their socks to the collection boxes located the their school offices, and high school students should bring their socks to their home rooms.
The Student Council members have set a goal of at least 800 pairs donated. StuCo will then divide the socks between homeless shelters in Wahoo, Lincoln, and Omaha.
