SUBDISTRICTS:
Wahoo earned the #2 seed in the 2015 girls basketball subdistrict C1-5, played Feb. 16-19 at Elkhorn South High School. The Warriors defeated #3 Arlington in Game 3 on Tuesday, Feb. 17 (61-47 final), but their season came to a close in the Feb. 19 subdistrict final, where #1 Bishop Neumann defeated Wahoo 59-45. Wahoo ended its season with a 16-9 record.

The Warriors found themselves down 10-4, but rode the storm out while scoring on the last five of six possessions of the first quarter. Katie Reeves sank her free throws and Gabby Shannon pulled the offensive board for another score to give life.
Slowly things started to turn around for Wahoo. A shooting foul allowed Shelby Milliken to finish at the line, and another offensive put back by Cheyenne Pearce gave the Warriors their first lead of the game. Josie Schnakenberg added two more points to give Wahoo a 14-10 lead.
Reeves hit the first shot of the 2nd quarter to give the Warriors a six-point lead. The Cavaliers answered back with a score, and a steal by Makovicka to Maly brought the Cavaliers within two points.
Wahoo began to struggle with the Cavalier presser. Three turnovers gave way to a stampede of scores that put Wahoo on the defensive end and down by five.
Wahoo regrouped and pulled within two points, but Neumann was able to mustard scores on the last two possessions to take a six-point lead; however, an assist from Bailey Brigham to Reeves put the Warriors down 24-28 entering halftime.
The Warriors came out flat to start the third quarter, allowing the Cavaliers to take a 7-0 run, and extend their lead to 11 points.
The Warriors failed to box out, and gave up three offensive rebounds that produced four points. Soon, a steal by Morgan Vasa led to an and-one play. The Warriors trailed 35-24 in a matter of minutes.
“We started the quarter sluggish, and didn’t box out,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “This was devastating!”
Wahoo again regrouped and started to close the gap with a free throw by Cheyenne Pearce, two more from Josie Schnakenberg, and a three by Shelby Milliken, putting Wahoo down by 5.
The Warriors appeared to be coming back, but too many missed threes, and long rebounds allowed the Cavaliers to get to the basket. Wahoo then was forced to foul, and the Cavaliers answered at the line.
“We really needed to keep attacking the basket and pounding the ball inside, but instead we fired a lot of threes,” Walker commented. “If a few go in we’d be in good shape, but unfortunately they didn’t, and it fueled Neumann to take a 44-32 advantage.”
The Warriors never gave up and tried to close the gap once again, but the damage was done, and free throws were on the Cavaliers’ side.
Wahoo took a season-ending defeat, 45-59.
“I’m disappointed and sad that our season has ended,” Walker added. “We came a long way this year, and we improved so much! I’m proud of my girls. Coach Simons has a talented team, and I wish them good luck the rest of the way.”

The Wahoo Warriors took on the Arlington Eagles Tuesday night in the first round of subdistrict play at Elkhorn South.
Wahoo opened up with a 19-10 first quarter performance. It was Kelsey Tomjack who held the hot shooting early in the game. Tomjack sank the first shot of the night, and swished three for three from the three-point line, owning 11 of the 19 points scored. Katie Reeves, Gabby Shannon and Cheyenne Pearce tallied the remaining 8 points of the quarter.
Both teams committed turnovers to start the 2nd quarter, but a steal by Pearce and an assist from Bailey Brigham to Tomjack began another good quarter for the Warriors.
“Kelsey is on fire,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “She’s giving us great momentum to work with.”
The fireworks continued with Shelby Milliken hiting her first shot of the game, followed by two free throws by Pearce. Reeves owned the next four points. A steal and layup by Josie Schnakenberg pleased the crowd, and a final score by Shannon gave the Warriors a 33-17 advantage at halftime.
Pearce owned the first four possessions to start the third quarter. Pearce sank her fouled shot free throws, and then buried the next three shots, giving Wahoo its biggest lead of the game, 41-17.
Some fouled shots and two threes gave the Eagles some ammo; however, Schnakenberg finished on an and-one play, and Brigham and Milliken added five more points to keep the 20-point spread.
Wahoo lead 49-29 at the end of the third period.
The Eagles kept their fight up throughout much of the 4th quarter. Arlington hit four of their nine threes of the night, and a pair of deuces to try and close the gap; however, a final steal and quick score by Brianna Brabec gave the Warriors the first round 61-47 victory.
“It’s was déjà vu,” Walker commented. “Arlington had a hot shooting fourth quarter against us last time we played.”

The Wahoo Warriors came out ready to take on Bishop Neumann in the last regular season game on their home court.
Katie Reeves’ one-on-one drive to the basket, and a corner baseline three by Kelsey Tomjack set up the Warriors for a thrilling night.
The Cavaliers found their first break when Caitlin Makovicka drove the lane. Bailey Brigham answered back, and a strong board by Reeves gave the Warriors a 9-2 lead.
Wahoo’s strong defense and continued scoring action by Tomjack, Shelby Milliken and two free-throws by Cheyenne Pearce ended the quarter 15-6 in Wahoo’s favor.
Bishop Neumann came out with some fire 2nd quarter, and in the first possession was able to connect on one of two free throws and gain the offensive board put back.
The Warriors answered back with a top-of-the-key three-point shot by Brigham. For the next five possessions Wahoo struggled to take care of the ball, and the Cavaliers came within five.
Hailey Thiele hit her first shot of the game midway through the 2nd; however, Gabby Shannon answered by hitting a two, and finishing her free throws to keep it a 7-point spread.
The battle to stay on top was evident. Pearce’s six points and Shannon’s offensive put back kept the lead in Wahoo’s hands at halftime, 28-23.
The Warriors came out 3rd quarter with the same determination as the start of the game.
Pearce’s strong offensive boards produced the first score, but was soon cancelled by a Cavalier basket.
Both teams had a four-possession no score spell; however, the Warriors found a little more consistency in their game and rolled for the next five possessions.
Pearce sank a two, followed by Shannon’s offensive put back. Next, a strong outlet by Reeves to Tomjack gave way to another basket. Shannon then scored on the next possession, and Reeves finished on a two-point conversion, giving the Warriors a 40-32 advantage.
Wahoo wasn’t done yet. Tomjack sank a roaring right-side three that allowed the Warriors to outscore the Cavaliers 15-11 in the 3rd grace period.
Wahoo never looked back the fourth quarter, and held a sturdy lead from start to finish. Free throws were the answer to get the job done, hitting 16 of 20 in the final minutes, and 22-26 for the game.
“We played solid defense tonight,” commented Head Coach Linda Walker. “Our attention to details and being able to control the tempo tonight were super important.”

Wahoo met their last regular season Conference foe Arlington on Friday night in the mist of a packed house.
The night began by honoring the Warrior Seniors: Bailey Brigham, Cheyenne Pearce, Gabby Shannon, Katie Reeves and Kelsey Tomjack. It also was a night to come together as a community to Play and Rally4Kim.
Wahoo put together a 19-9 performance in the first 8 minutes of play. Reeves sank one of two free throws to begin the night.
The Warriors moved the ball from corner to corner, and had a thrilling 6 possessions outside shooting performance. First, Tomjack sank a left-side three, followed by an offensive board put back by Reeves. Brigham stole the show by hitting two back-to-back threes.
The hot shooting didn’t stop there. Tomjack drained another left-side three, and Josie Schnakenberg finished the quarter with two block area shots.
Wahoo kept the offensive fire going in the second period. Reeves’ strong offensive board produced the first score. Next, Shannon nailed a right-side three off the secondary transition.
The Arlington Eagles found some momentum by hitting three threes from different players, but the Warriors continued to roll with a layup by Tomjack and a two-point block shot by Pearce. Shelby Milliken and Schnakenberg finished the grace period with a score each.
Warriors lead at halftime, 32-20.
Wahoo came out the third quarter and took flight in the first four possessions of play. Reeves accounted for the first four points of the quarter. Next, Brigham finished on the layup, and Pearce sank a 12-foot shot.
The Warriors boasted the lead to 20 points before warranting a time-out by Arlington.
A couple of Warrior turnovers slowed their attack, but eventually Schnakenberg ignited once again. Brigham sank a left-corner three on the next possession and Shannon cleaned up the quarter on the last two possessions.
The Warriors outscored the Eagles 17-7 in the third grace period.
Arlington didn’t give up, and kept their guns in the game until the end. The Eagles did some damage by hitting three threes and a few twos to close the gap. The Warriors felt safe though, and cleared the bench to allow the youth to finish the game.
A homerun pass to Emma Hastings gave way to a nice completion, and the Warriors took their sixth regular season conference win, 58-45.
“What a great crowd on senior night,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “My seniors set the tone tonight and for three quarters we dominated.”

Strong 4th quarter propels Gretna over Wahoo

The Warriors traveled to Gretna Tuesday night to take on the Class B Dragons.
The Dragons took a stand in the first minutes of the game by pushing the ball down the court with precision and taking a 7-0 run.
Wahoo regrouped and caused the Dragons to turn the ball over three times in a row and started to find their game. Gabby Shannon hit the first shot of the game, and the defense began to do its job causing more disruption.
A layup by Bailey Brigham and another score by Brianna Brabec closed the gap. The Warriors took their first lead 9-7 with a wing three-point basket by Shelby Milliken. A turnover changed the course and accelerated the Dragons to finish on the next two possessions.
Wahoo ended the first quarter down 9-12.
A pull-up elbow shot by Brigham and a dribble baseline release by Brabec set the Warriors on a good pace. On the next play, Brigham sank the left-side three, and the Wahoo took a 16-12 lead before Gretna could get a score.
The Dragons began to fire back and score. A Warrior turnover shifted into another Gretna transition score; however, the Warriors clung to a 19-18 lead entering halftime.
The third quarter was almost an even up battle. Kelsey Tomjack assisted Shannon for an inside score. Gretna answered back with a score of its own. The next two possessions were turnovers for the Warriors, leading to five unanswered points, taking a three-point lead, 24-21.
Cheyenne Pearce answered the call with a two-point conversion, but the Dragons canceled that by hitting their free throws.
The fire in the Dragons blew out for a while as the Warriors turned up the defense and caused Gretna to turn the ball over four times in a row.
Late in the quarter Josie Schnakenberg provided some much-needed scores, finishing on an offensive put back and a free throw.
Wahoo trailed by one going into the final minutes, 26-27.
The Dragons came out the fourth quarter with a huge corner baseline three. Katie Reeves kept the game intact by connecting on a front-of-the-rim shot. Several offensive rebounds, converted foul shots and two more threes deflated the Warriors in the first five possessions of the quarter.
Despite Gretna pulling away with a 38-30 advantage, there was still time and hope, but the Warriors could not get the clock stopped, and missed opportunities to get back in control.
The Wahoo Warriors fell to defeat 32-41 and Coach Skrdla of Gretna gets his 500th career victory.
“Gretna made more plays and we struggled to finish,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “Our inside game was missing tonight, and when the game was on the line in the fourth, we didn’t have the sense of urgency until it was too late.”

Warrior Girls: 2015 NE Capitol Conference Champions!
The last time these two teams met, Wahoo fell short in the last seconds of the game, but not this time!
Six perfect free throws and a three-possession scoring run gave the Warriors a 13-10 advantage after 8 minutes of play.
Bailey Brigham’s pull-up three, a drive finish by Cheyenne Pearce, and a power lay up by Josie Schnakenberg gave Wahoo confidence to build upon.
Wahoo pushed hard early in the second quarter, causing a bit of a turn over frenzy. A timeout, and a baseline three by Gabby Shannon settled the Warriors.
Another three-possession scoring run by Cheyenne Pearce and 4 points from Schnakenberg gave Wahoo a 22-19 first half performance.
“We played a great first half, and made them work for their shots,” said Head Coach Walker. “We will need to stay ahead of the game by playing rock solid defense and keep executing on offense.”
Third quarter began with a great Warrior execution and a score by Shannon. Both teams found difficulty scoring, but Shannon broke the ice and scored, allowing the Warriors to hold a 4-3 advantage this quarter.
With only a 10-possession third quarter, Wahoo was able to keep the game in their hands, 26-22.
The final quarter began with early scores from Kelsey Tomjack and Shannon; however, the tide rolled in when the Trojans went on a 9-5 early quarter run.
Wahoo stayed calm and cool as the game was on the line, 31-31. A Tomjack three in the baseline corner, followed by a Reeves’ score was the pivotal moment that fueled the Warriors to victory.
The Platteview Trojans were then forced to foul. The Warriors sank 7 of 10 free throws and stretched their lead to 8-points.
Wahoo sealed the Conference win, outscoring Platteview 43-35.
“We played smart and cool tonight,” Walker commented. “Kelsey and Shelby did such a great job defending Kulm, and the others did their job defending and stopping the dribble drives. We executed the game plan, and I’m really proud of them.”

Warrior girls knock out Raymond Central in NCC semifinal

The Wahoo Warriors faced the Raymond Central Mustangs in the semifinal Tuesday night, one week since their last battle.
The semifinal action began with a Cheyenne Pearce basket, followed by a lay up by Gabby Shannon, and another score by Katie Reeves, giving Wahoo a 6-2 advantage.
The Mustangs were able to net one free throw, but a free throw each by Josie Schnakenberg and Pearce gave the Warriors an 8-3 lead after 8 minutes of play.
The second quarter began with a top of the key three by Kelsey Tomjack. The Mustangs answered back with a three of their own; however, a strong offensive rebound and put back by Reeves revitalized the Warriors, who then went on a 9-1 run.
Shannon, Reeves and Shelby Milliken let loose of the reigns and connected on the next 7 points, building a 20-6 lead.
Tomjack closed the first half with perfect free throws from the charity stripe, and the Warriors lead 22-7.
Raymond Central took a 6-4 stand in the first 6 possessions of the third quarter. Moments later, the Warriors fought back and took to their own 6-2 run. Pearce scored 6 of her 13 game points this quarter, and Shannon added 4 more points.
Wahoo ended the third grace period up 32-15.
The fourth quarter began with a steal and lay up by Pearce, and a right-side three by Bailey Brigham expanded the lead, 37-15.
The Mustangs were forced to foul to try to give themselves a chance, but sharp free throw shooting by Brigham made no gains.
Wahoo moved on to the conference championship after defeating the Mustangs 46-29.
“We played much better this time against Raymond Central,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “It was good to control the game from start to finish.”

The Wahoo Warriors took on the Bluejays in the first round of Conference play Tuesday night on their home court.
Gabby Shannon sank the first two points of the game, followed by a score by Cheyenne Pearce.
Shannon’s assist to Josie Schnakenberg continued to build an early lead. Two free throws by Pearce and a strong offensive rebound put back by Schnakenberg stretched a 10-2 Warrior lead before a timeout was awarded.
Crosscourt passes by Bailey Brigham and Shannon found Kelsey Tomjack wide open for two breakaway lay-ups.
Wahoo rolled to a 14-2 first quarter performance.
The Bluejays took a 5-2 run early in the 2nd quarter; however, Tomjack fed Pearce twice down the floor, breaking any Ashland momentum.
A steal by Brigham and a lay-up gave Wahoo a 20-7 separation.
To cap the quarter, Schnakenberg brought the bench to their feet with an and-one play, and Brianna Brabec and Pearce cleaned it up with four more points.
Wahoo ended first half, up 29-12.
The Warriors came out of the locker room and continued to roll at a steady pace 3rd quarter. The fierce transition game and precise passing led to 7 assists, accounting for 15 of the 17 points scored this quarter.
The 4th quarter rang in with a steal by Katie Reeves, and then led to a Brigham assist to Tomjack. Strong board work by Shannon and court awareness gave Reeves her first score of the night.
Wahoo took a 9-2 run on the Bluejays with Tomjack’s three and Schnakenberg’s 2 for 2 from the line.
With five minutes to play, the Warrior bench was cleared. Shelby Milliken sank two left-side 15 footers, and a final free throw by Schnakenberg sealed the deal for the Warriors, 60-27.
“It’s always good to get the first round of conference under your belt,” said Head Coach Linda Walker.
Wahoo will go to Raymond Central this Friday night to take on the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. in the semi-round of Conference play.

The Warriors took on Norfolk Catholic at home on Friday night in front of a packed gymnasium.
Gabby Shannon found Cheyenne Pearce on the inbounds play, and Kelsey Tomjack sank the trey. A crowd-pleasing transition pass by Brianna Brabec to Tomjack for a lay up gave Wahoo a 7-5 advantage.
The Warriors’ failure to take care of the ball and own the boards fueled a 9-0 run by Norfolk Catholic.
Wahoo went from leading to trailing 14-7 at the end of the first grace period.
Lack of scoring plagued the Warriors the second quarter and the rest of the game, but Wahoo’s defense kept the Knights in sight and gave some hope of recovery.
The Warriors ended the first half down, 14-22.
Again the lid stayed on the basket third quarter for the Warriors, and the Knights found ways to get to the basket on dribble drives.
“We didn’t force the dribbler away from the basket,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “Instead, we gave them the o lay by standing straight up.”
Despite the separation of scoring, the Warriors kept fighting. Katie Reeves’ and-one play brought some glimmer. Wahoo tried to ignite on that play, but the Knights took away the grace when they scored on the dribble drive again and again.
Warriors were outscored 9-16, and the Knights expanded the lead to 38-23.
Very few scores by the Warriors made it difficult to win this battle. The Warriors were outscored 11-10 in the fourth quarter, and fell to defeat 33-50.
“Norfolk Catholic had more savvy tonight,” Walker commented. “We need to get better at stopping the dribble drives, and get back to scoring on the offensive end.”

Wahoo got off to a pretty solid start with a two-pointer from Cheyenne Pearce, and a three by Kelsey Tomjack.
Warriors led 5-0 before the Raymond Central Mustangs could get out of the gate.
Strong offensive boards by the Mustangs gave them their first score of the night and their second.
Wahoo now led 5-4.
It took four more up and backs until Pearce connected on back-to-back scores. Soon after, Gabby Shannon and Katie Reeves both finished on attempts, and the Warriors gained the advantage 13-8.
Wahoo’s turnovers early in the 2nd quarter and missed shot cast a slow, non-productive quarter for Wahoo.
The Mustangs reared and took charge, scoring on the last six possessions of the second quarter, outscoring the Warriors 15-2.
Shannon’s lone two free throws were all the Warriors earned, and went into half time down 15-23.
“We lost our composer half way through the 2nd quarter,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “Too many turnovers and bad decisions led to an ugly 2nd quarter.”
Wahoo regrouped at half, stayed focused and slowly brought themselves back into the game.
Bailey Brigham nailed the three to start the 3rd grace period, followed by a score from Katie Reeves. Solid free throw shooting by Pearce, Shannon and Josie Schnakenberg kept closing the gap. A three by Brigham and another deuce gave the lead back to Wahoo.
Wahoo returned the favor and outscored the Mustangs 15-2 to end the 3rd quarter up 30-27.
Wahoo stayed in control all of the 4th quarter. Two offensive rebounds allowed Pearce to finish the first possession with a Wahoo score. Another offensive rebound by Reeves gave Shannon the opportunity to cash in on a three pointer and sink her free throw.
Wahoo now led 36-27 before the Mustangs tried one last time. Wahoo’s strong performance at the line enabled Wahoo to take the victory 41-34.

Wahoo swarmed D.C. West, and sailed to a 23-2 first quarter performance.
The Warriors finished on 11 of 16 possessions in the first eight minutes. All five starters were productive scorers; however, Cheyenne Pearce put up 10 of her 23 points this quarter.
Wahoo’s overpowering defense forced the Falcons to turn the ball over 22 times in the first half. The Warriors continued to score on 15 of 18 possessions this quarter. Gabby Shannon led the 2nd period, adding 12 of her 17 game points.
Warriors held a huge lead at the half, 52-8.
Third quarter began with the running clock. The Falcons took better care of the ball the 2nd half, and improved scoring; however, Bailey Brigham, Kelsey Tomjack and Pearce each hit three’s to cancel any advantage.
Pearce went on to add four more points in this quarter, and a Lauren Crockett free throw allowed the Warriors to outscore the Falcons 14-13, ending the quarter 66-21.
The fourth quarter began with a Katie Reeve’s free throw, and a Shannon baseline three. Brigham added her last two points of the game, followed by a score by Emma Hastings and a free throw by Josie Schnakenberg.
The Warriors took the win, 75-27!
“We really dominated the first half,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “The second half went by so fast with the running clock, and I was glad to give all eleven girls adequate time on the court.”

The Warriors took on an undefeated Platteview Trojan team Friday night.
An assist by Kelsey Tomjack to Katie Reeves earned the Warriors their first basket of the night.
Two blocked shots by the Trojans jarred some post scores, but a three by Tomjack gave a 5-5 battle. Number 35 Kulm got loose for two three’s and a deuce to exploit the Warrior defense, and take a 12-0 run.
Wahoo fought back and finished on the last 3 of 4 possessions of the quarter. Cheyenne Pearce scored at the block while Bailey Brigham and Gabby Shannon each sank a three.
Warriors trailed 13-19 after one.
Brigham got Wahoo off to a good start in the second quarter, while Reeves took charge in the paint, putting up 8 of her 14 points.
The Warriors started to close in on the Trojans, but the last possessions of the quarter came up empty-handed, and Platteview finished strong.
Wahoo ended the half down 25-36.
An offensive rebound put-back by Pearce started to close the gap; however, Platteview mirrored the board and put in a score of their own.
Four missed free throws did not help the Warriors in turning the corner, but a 10-11 quarter kept the spread the same.
Wahoo entered the final minutes trailing 35-47.
Wahoo rallied the fourth quarter. Tomjack sank the trey, followed by a two by Josie Schnakenberg. Next, Shannon sank her free throws and Schnakenberg finished again at the block.
Things were rocking and heating up.
Pearce aced her free throws and a strong score by Reeves brought the Warriors within six.
The Warrior full court man defense was causing the Trojans to turn the ball over, and the Warriors were edging their way.
An assist by Brigham to Shannon for two, a Tomjack free throw and another Shannon score brought the Warriors to a one-point thrilling ball game.
A foul by the Warriors gave Platteview two shots at the line, giving them a three-point lead with seconds to go.
Coach Walker called her last time out and drew up the tying game play with 13.6 seconds to go.
The perfect opportunity for the Warriors to tie the game turned into a sighing turnover. Warriors were forced to foul again and lost the hard fought battle, 58-53.
Wahoo will face D.C. West in less than 24 hours on Saturday.

The Warriors traveled to Omaha Tuesday night to take on the Mercy Monarchs.
Wahoo was caught in a metamorphic state as the Monarchs attacked the zone and cruised to a 19-18 first quarter performance.
“We missed a lot of easy baskets, and didn’t move very well in the zone on defense to start this game,” said Head Coach Linda Walker.
Changed happened quickly though. The Warriors went man-to-man and held the Monarchs to just four points in the second quarter. Bailey Brigham played tremendous man-to-man on their best shooter and finished at the foul line, while Gabby Shannon used her strengths to help propel her team.
With a change in defense came explosiveness on offense. Shannon set the pace with an and-one play, while Katie Reeves scored on the next possession. Continuing the streak was Kelsey Tomjack’s three-pointer and another score by Reeves.
The Warriors now led 29-21 early in the second quarter and didn’t hold back there. Reeves added six more points, and Shannon tallied another four points.
Wahoo led at halftime 36-23.
Tomjack’s only nothing-but-net baseline three began the third quarter spin. During this quarter the Warriors missed quite a few bunnies that should have taken the wings right off the Monarchs, but instead, the Warriors cruised just enough to keep a good lead.
Cheyenne Pearce paced the quarter with 8 points, and Shannon and Reeves accounted for the rest of the 18-14 third quarter performance.
Wahoo showed tremendous basketball skill and teamwork in the 4th quarter, scoring on 13 of 18 possessions and stunning the crowd with awesome transition and execution on offense.
Wahoo takes the victory 79-43.
“Our 1-3-1 was good to us in the 4th, and Mercy had no answer,” Walker commented. “We raised our level of play 4th quarter, and that’s so good to see.”

Wahoo Warriors were on a mission to cap the week off with a win, and they did just that!
Owning the boards and finishing at the free throw line began a first half strong performance by the Wahoo Warriors.
Gabby Shannon sank three of four free throws early, and a steal by Cheyenne Pearce, a 20-footer by Bailey Brigham, and a deuce by Kelsey Tomjack merited a time out by Crete’s coach.
Wahoo led 8-0 before the Cardinals could get their first goal. Wahoo executed well on offense, allowing Shannon to get open for several finished products at the rim. With Pearce’s score and two more free throws by Katie Reeves, the Warriors led 16-9 at the end of the first period.
The Warriors’ defense was playing strong, causing the Cardinals to turn the ball over seven times in this quarter, and allowing only three points to their opponents.
Shannon continued to play strong on the offensive end as well, adding six more points to her 13-point first half performance.
Wahoo headed into the locker room up 25-12 at the half.
The third quarter began with a 2-pointer from Pearce. A few turnovers by Wahoo made things a little tougher for the Warriors. It would be six possessions until finally Shannon took over the scoring once more, adding eight more points to her game-high 23 points, along with two free throws from Josie Schnakenberg.
Warriors ended the third grace period up 37-21.
Turnovers and fouls committed by the Warriors gave the Cardinals chances to close the gap, but the Warriors stayed just strong enough, and took the victory 46-35.
“I’m so proud of how we responded this week,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “We’re preparing better and taking ownership.”

The Wahoo Warriors led from start to finish Friday night against the Syracuse Rockets.
Katie Reeves put the Warriors on the board. Kelsey Tomjack stole the ball, threw to Bailey Brigham down the floor where she assisted Cheyenne Pearce for two.
Meanwhile through the first quarter, subs came in and gave spark. Brianna Brabec nailed the three, followed by a lay-up by Shelby Milliken.
Rockets were held scoreless until the last 2 possessions of the quarter, and the Wahoo Warriors led 12-3 at the end of the first 8 minutes.
A steal by Gabby Shannon and an assist by Tomjack to Pearce started a dominant 2nd quarter. Warriors had a huge 4-possession run with Reeves for two, a layup by Brigham, a three by Tomjack and a steal and assist by Shannon to Brigham for a three before the Rockets would get a score.
The Warriors continued the domination with Pearce finishing on an and-one play, and Shannon hitting a thrilling baseline three. Josie Schnakenberg and Tomjack added more tallies to give the Warriors a very comfortable half-time lead, 39-9.
Wahoo’s defense and offensive attack continued strong into the second half. Shannon hit two threes, and Reeves scored after a steal by Pearce and an assist by Brigham.
Wahoo ended the third quarter up 54-16.
The running clock took effect after Tomjack sank her free throws after being fouled on her shot. Wahoo continued to mix up the defense and the youth took charge as they entered the game. Steals and defensive rebounds by Schnakenberg led to many transition layups by Milliken.
Wahoo annihilated Syracuse 64-18.
“Our defense was strong tonight, forcing our opponents to 30 turnovers,” Said Head Coach Linda Walker. “We were able to mix it up tonight, and the girls did a great job on both ends of the floor!”

A corner trey by Kelsey Tomjack got the Warriors going Tuesday night on their home court. Bailey Brigham stole the ball on the next possession, while Katie Reeves sank her two shooting fouls at the line. The Warriors lead 5-3.
A Warrior turnover gave way for Lutheran to act on a score; however, Gabby Shannon sank her two foul shots at the line, and kept a 2-point lead.
It would take many possessions to move past the number nine on the scoreboard for the Warriors. Wahoo ended the first quarter down 9-10.
Slowly but surely the Warriors began to take the lead once again with Pearce’s two points at the foul line, and a 3-pointer from the left wing. Shannon then sank the right side elbow, and Pearce followed up with two more free throws, giving Wahoo an 18-16 advantage at halftime.
In the third quarter Lincoln Lutheran fired the three to take a one-point lead, but Tomjack answered back with a three of her own.
Wahoo finally had the edge when Milliken sank the wing shot and Shannon finished on a layup and sank two more free throws.
Wahoo ended the third quarter up 26-22.
Pearce kept the pace for the Warriors by finishing on a 15-footer, and sinking 3 of 4 free throws early to start the fourth quarter.
Lincoln Lutheran lost their fight when Reeves sealed the deal by shooting 6-6 from the foul line, followed by two more free throws from Shannon.
Wahoo took the win 39-32.
“Free throws were good to us, 21-26, and this was a good win to get back on track,” said Head Coach Linda Walker.

After being handed two losses in their holiday tournament, the Warriors faced a very solid Guardian Angel team Friday night in West Point.
It didn’t take long for the Warriors to get down and out of the game. GACC sank 4 of 5 threes and took early control of the game. Wahoo turned the ball over 8 of their last 9 possessions of the quarter and found themselves down 7-23 in a blink.
“We’re having severe trouble taking care of the ball, and it’s plagued us all week,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “You don’t have to play flawlessly, but you do have to give yourself a chance.”
It was another tough 2nd quarter for the Warriors. Wahoo continued to turn the ball over, and gave up four offensive boards, allowing the Bluejays to gain 10 points off of second opportunities.
GACC lead 42-18 after 16 minutes of play.
The third quarter was a little better for the Warriors. Wahoo slowed the Bluejays down by playing 1-3-1, and played more under control.
Brianna Brabec hit the first three of the 2nd half. A free throw by Gabby Shannon and a two-pointer by Katie Reeves, and a corner trey by Kelsey Tomjack helped shed some light for the Warriors.
Katie Reeves finished the quarter on an and-one play to win out the quarter 12-9, with GACC still leading 51-30.
GACC re-energize the 4th quarter and went on another scoring frenzy, taking advantage of the Warriors’ mistakes.
Wahoo lost the game 35-65.
“We physically and mentally are not playing well right now,” Walker commented. “We’re going to have to shake this whole week off, learn from it, and get ourselves back on track.”

The battle of shots and offensive boards led to the first score of the game by Warrior Katie Reeves, followed by another two-point conversion by Cheyenne Pearce.
Wahoo took a 4-0 lead, and was able to steal the ball 7 times this quarter. Unfortunately, 4 of those 7 great steals ended in turnovers.
Both teams struggled to take care of the ball and finish shots, ending the quarter 6-7 in Elkhorn South’s favor.
Warriors plagued themselves with 5 turnovers to start the second quarter. Elkhorn South took advantage of those, and scored on 2 of their 5 steals, taking an 11-6 advantage.
Reeves soon scored on 1 of 2 free throws and a 2-pointer to help the Warriors regain their composer, but a three-pointer by the Elkhorn South point guard continued their crusade.
Another Reeves score and a layup by Brigham was much needed before half time. The Warriors headed into the locker room down 11-16.
Elkhorn South took advantage of three consecutive turnovers by Wahoo to start the third quarter. For many possessions the only points gained by the Warriors came from the free throw line.
Finally, the Warriors started to come alive on the last 5 possessions of the 3rd period. Gabby Shannon was able to hit 2 of 2 from the line and sink a 2-pointer, and Brianna Brabec nailed two 3’s to end the quarter down 24-33.
“B’s nothing-but-net three pointer was beautiful to end the quarter, and I was hoping it would be the inspirational therapy that would start our engines,” said Head Coach Linda Walker.
Both teams answered back at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Wahoo could not make the run they were looking for, and ended up losing to Elkhorn South 34-47.

It was a rough first eight minutes for the Wahoo Warriors in the first round of the 2014 Holiday Tournament.
The Crusaders took it to the Warriors, outscoring them 24-8 after one.
“Christian’s quick transition baskets, hot outside shooting, and our inability to score, take care of the ball and play smart defense made it a frustrating quarter for us,” said Head Coach Linda Walker.
The Warriors didn’t give up though, and kept on fighting to avenge their first quarter devastation. Wahoo found some inside scores from Cheyenne Pearce and Katie Reeves, combining for 15 points this quarter. Wahoo did a better job of guarding Christian’s prime players and made it a respectable quarter, 15-17.
Wahoo trailed at the half, 23-41.
A basket each by Shelby Milliken and Bailey Brigham put some points on the board for Wahoo. Pearce continued to dominate the inside game, adding 8 more points to her 16-point first half performance. Wahoo appeared to be gaining some momentum; however, it soon came to an end as Christian took a late third quarter run, outscoring the Warriors 18-15.
Two three’s by Brigham added some interest to the start of the 4th quarter, and two assists by Gabby Shannon to Reeves added 4 more points. Wahoo ended up outscoring the Crusaders this quarter 12-9, but fell to defeat 50-68.

On Friday night the Warriors dominated the 2-1 Pioneers on their home court.
Wahoo’s Gabby Shannon assisted the first two made shots of the game to Katie Reeves and Bailey Brigham. Warriors held a slim 8-6 lead before igniting an 11-2 run to finish the first quarter up 17-8.
More consistent scoring through the second quarter and tremendous defensive pressure allowed Wahoo to continue to feel the control.
Scoring from multiple ranges made it difficult for the Pioneers to contain any one Warrior. The trio of Reeves, Cheyenne Pearce and Josie Schnakenberg dominated the paint with a combined 21 points, while perimeter shooting by Brigham, Shelby Milliken and Shannon drove home 13 points.
“Bailey Brigham’s drive off the posts and dish to Gabby Shannon for a corner three was a great finish to a fine first half,” said Head Coach Linda Walker.
The Warriors forced the Pioneers to 16 of 29 turnovers in the first half, and cruised to a 36-13 half time performance.
Wahoo came out strong again in the third quarter. Shannon’s offensive rebound put back followed by Pearce’s two-pointer and finished free throw work got the Warriors off and running.
Wahoo extended the lead when Schnakenberg hit two shots in a row followed by a Milliken three pointer. Lauren Crockett added a free throw and Pearce finished up to give the Wahoo a 54-20 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Warriors were able to hold the Pioneers to just 24 points, while Wahoo gained another 10 and finalized the defeat 64-24.
“Our defense and strong rebounding tonight were dominating, and really fueled a strong offensive attack,” Walker commented. “The girls played with confidence and stayed strong tonight.”

Warriors took an early 10-2 lead with great intensity. Strong boards by Cheyenne Pearce and a steal and assist by Gabby Shannon to Bailey Brigham set the pace; however, a devilish Wayne acted quickly with a big three and free throws, closing the gap 10-7.
Wahoo once again took charge. An offensive put back by Katie Reeves and a three pointer each by both Brigham and Shannon extended Wahoo’s lead to 18-7. Again, the Blue Devils stayed cool and responded with a 12-5 run through the middle. Wahoo lead 24-21 at halftime.
The second half became an even up contest. Pearce began the 3rd quarter with a quick hit from Shannon. The Warriors’ miscommunication on defense allowed Wayne’s Kylie Hammer to cash in on a three and deuce, and finish on an and-one play by Tarah Stegeman. Wahoo trailed for the first time 28-29.
Wahoo’s defense regrouped, and forced the Blue Devils to turn the ball over 7 times. Meanwhile, Reeves scored on her offensive rebound and both Pearce and Brigham sank free throws on their fouled shots.
Wahoo took a slim 34-32 lead entering the exciting 4th quarter.
By the 4th possession, Wahoo and Wayne were deadlocked, 40-40, and it stayed this way until the final seconds of the game. With only 7 seconds to go, Wahoo called a timeout and executed the “lucky” press breaker. Shannon, without giving her scheme away, hit Josie Schnakenberg for the captivating winning moment!
Wahoo goes on to win 47-45!
“The girls executed just like we planned at the timeout!” commented Head Coach Linda Walker. “I love these situations when we come out on top!”

A corner three by Gabby Shannon set the tone for the Warriors Tuesday night at Ashland!
The Warriors’ defensive pressure gave the Bluejays trouble and forced them to turn the ball over 6 times in the first quarter and 27 for the game.
It was Josie Schnakenberg’s strong offensive board work, and Shelby Milliken’s spark off the bench that soared the Warriors to take a 13-4 stand after 8 minutes of play.
An offensive rebound and score by Cheyenne Pearce kicked off the 2nd quarter.
The Ashland Bluejays could not fly through the Warrior press, and were forced into 9 turnovers in the first 10 possessions.
“Even though the defense was solid, we just didn’t finish well on the offensive end,” said Head Coach Linda Walker.
Wahoo only scored on one of their first 7 possessions, but a hot-shooting Milliken finished an and-one play and drilled 2 threes from the left side to give the Warriors the offensive spark that was needed.
In the final moments before half, Pearce sank two free throws, and an assist from Bailey Brigham to Brianna Brabec put Wahoo up 30-10.
Wahoo came out with their press to begin the 3rd quarter, but quickly dropped to a half court man-to-man defense.
A defensive rebound and assist by Shannon to Schnakenberg tallied points on the board. With execution of a favorite play, Brigham hit Shannon on the backdoor play to ignite the crowd.
The Warriors continued to outscore the Bluejays with Lauren Crockett finishing on a two-pointer and free throw and Pearce’s coast-to-coast layup; however, Milliken stole the show with her continued hot shooting that ended the quarter up 46-20.
The fourth quarter continued to be a struggle for the Bluejays, but for the Warriors, they were able to give the bench valuable minutes and go on to win 59-27.
“Our defense was pretty solid tonight against Ashland,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “For not having two of our starters in the rotation tonight, I feel we played pretty darn well.”

The Warrior girls faced the Class B Seward Bluejays Saturday afternoon on their home court.
The Warriors took a 5-3 run on the Bluejays early in the first quarter, but two three’s by a young Zadina gave Seward a 7-6 advantage. The Warriors plagued themselves with five turnovers in seven possessions, but were able to rebound themselves with an and-one play by Katie Reeves and a three-pointer by Bailey Brigham, ending the quarter down 12-13.
The Warrior defense allowed uncontested shots in the second quarter to the Bluejays. Two made three’s gave the Bluejays the wings they needed to take a 19-12 lead.
Wahoo fought back with a baseline trey from Cheyenne Pearce and a free throw, but another three by Seward put out the small spark.
An offensive rebound and score by Reeves and free throws by Josie Schnakenberg brought Warriors within two. A last shot by Seward’s post gave the Bluejays a 24-20 lead at half.
Wahoo was handed a 5-1 run in the first three possessions of play to start the 3rd quarter. The Warriors struggled to score, and Seward outhustled them to the loose ball on the long rebounds. Wahoo managed to score three freethrows, but was outscored 13-3.
Wahoo regrouped and gave a better effort in the fourth quarter by doubling the ball and finally applying the defensive pressure needed to disrupt.
Wahoo caused Seward to turn the ball over five times, and outscored the Bluejays 12-6. Bri Brabec and Kelsey Tomjack hit the final two three’s, but time ran out, and Seward went on to win 43-35.
“We played inconsistent today against Seward. Our shots didn’t fall and that stressed us. Our rebounding wasn’t as strong, and defensively we were a step slow,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “We’ll learn from it, get better on communication, and refocus for next week.”

The Warrior girls took a 20-8 lead after 8 minutes of play. Strong boards and the vision of the open court gave Wahoo a dominant advantage over the Badgers.
Wahoo moved the ball down the floor and fed open teammates. Katie Reeves connected on 12 of her 25 points this quarter.
The 2nd quarter began with an and-one play by Cheyenne Pearce. The Wahoo offensive attack allowed them to connect on 15 of 24 possessions, with six players contributing scores and others assisting.

The Badgers’ strategy to rapid fire and keep the full court pressure on enabled the Warriors to lead a powerful transition game and outscore the Badgers 24-11, ending the 3rd period 75-38.
The 4th quarter went by quickly. Pearce’s top-of-the-key three put the running clock into action and, an offensive board put back by Shannon merited the starters to take the bench. Young Warrior Emma Hastings was able to connect on a change of direction layup and cash in on the last three-pointer for the Warriors.
Wahoo takes the win: 85-46.
“Strong boards, deliberate outlets, tremendous court awareness and teamwork were great tonight!” commented Head Coach Linda Walker.
