C1-5 SUBDISTRICTS:
The 2016 Girls Basketball Subdistrict C1-5 was played Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, February 15, 16, and 18 at Roncalli Catholic High School in Omaha (6401 Sorensen Parkway). The #2-seeded Wahoo Warriors defeated #3 Omaha Concordia in Game 3 on Tues., Feb. 16, with a final score of 53-40. In the Feb. 18 subdistrict final Wahoo lost to #1-seeded Bishop Neumann, 51-64, ending their season with a 11-14 record. Please click HERE to view the completed C1-5 subdistrict bracket. Bishop Neumann prevailed against the Wahoo Warriors to advance in District play.
A free throw by Hallie Reeves and a three by Shelby Milliken put the Warriors in action Thursday night at Roncalli High School. Strong outside shooting by Bishop Neumann provided them with an 8-4 edge after minutes of play.
A strong board and floor attack allowed Milliken to finish on her lay up. Wahoo trailed by two until Taryn Scheef sank two from the charity line.
The Cavaliers answered right back and took advantage on the next two possessions to take a 6-point lead. Wahoo geared up again. This time Mallory Lindstrom took to the offensive board and sank the two-pointer to end the first quarter down 10-14.
Wahoo fired the three and missed to start the 2nd quarter. The Cavaliers’ three saw nothing but net, and Neumann took a seven-point lead.
A baseline drive by Scheef and an assist to Elly Larson helped the Warriors keep focus. After Neumann hit two more threes, Wahoo was forced to match up and dig deep to have a chance.
A steal by Brianna Brabec gave way to Reeves to attack and draw the fouls, sinking four from the charity line. Wahoo missed several one-and-one opportunities to close the gap. The Cavs’ consistent scoring throughout this whole quarter and Wahoo’s eight points put the Warriors down at half 18-32.
Wahoo had a little better offensive production 3rd quarter. A nice feed from Lindstrom to Reeves got the Warriors started. Lindstrom sank the next two points. Strong positioning by E. Larson and assists by Brabec and Milliken led to some nice finished products by E. Larson.
The Warriors did have opportunity to cut it to nine points when Scheef cashed in on the three and took to the line; however, the Cavaliers responded with some big shots and stayed calm. Wahoo continued to press and was still in tact, ending the 3rd grace period down 29-46.
A steal by E. Larson led to an and-one play by Reeves. Bishop Neumann answered by cashing in on a three; however, Reeves took the attention with a drive and up and under the basket shot.
Wahoo pursued hard to close the gap with their defensive pressure and attack on offense. The ten-point spread gained from 2nd quarter could not be erased, and the Warriors fell to the Cavaliers 64-51, ending their season with an 11-14 record.
“I’m proud of our fight tonight, and the growth we made as a team,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “The future looks promising!”

Wahoo win first round Sub-District battle against Omaha Concordia 53-40.
The Warriors rocked a first quarter performance against Omaha Concordia 18-8. A strong rebound and assist to Brianna Brabec led to the Warriors’ first score of the game. A Wahoo steal and a Shelby Milliken assist to Hallie Reeves gave the Warriors a 4-2 start.
Elly Larson’s strong offensive rebound led to her first score of the night. The Warriors took total control after two back-to-back basket by Reeves, a sinking three by Milliken and another three by Reeves.
Wahoo capped the quarter with another score to lead 18-8 after eight minutes of play.
Mallory Lindstrom put the Warriors into action to begin the 2nd quarter. Slow scoring in the next ten possessions lulled Wahoo. Four of six free throws by Brabec, Lindstrom and Milliken helped keep a somewhat comfortable lead; however, the Concordia Mustangs reared up, hit three 3’s and a pair of deuces to close the gap.
It was Shelby Milliken’s nothing-but-net three that froze the run, along with Reeves’ next two baskets. Wahoo headed into halftime up, 31-23.
Wahoo outscored Concordia 12-5 in the third quarter; however, turnovers and dry scoring spells casted the Warriors from completely taking over the game. E. Larson, Emma Hastings and Milliken scores were much needed in the 15/18 possessions to keep the Warriors on top.
Wahoo dominated the last three possessions of the third quarter with scores from E. Larson, Reeves and Maddie Larson to end the 3rd period up 43-28.
Three 3’s once again ignited a glimmer of hope for the Concordia Mustangs. Free throws by M. Larson, E. Larson, Lindstrom and Milliken kept the game in Warrior hands. Two quick scores by Milliken and Reeves sealed the victory, 53-40.
Wahoo advances to the Subdistrict finals to take on the Cavaliers Thursday night at 7:00.

2016-17 Warrior Girls Basketball's lone senior, Shelby Milliken, was recognized on Senior Night (Feb. 12).
Wahoo Warriors won their final regulation game against Columbus Lakeview, 57-39!
Senior Shelby Milliken was honored Friday night and led the team in scoring to a victory over the Vikings.
It took many minutes for both teams to sink their first scores. A driving attack by Brianna Brabec gave wave to the Warriors’ first 2-points of the game, followed by a swishing three by Milliken. Hallie Reeves sank the next shot and Wahoo lead 7-5.
The Warriors were able to widen the point spread in the 2nd quarter due to their defensive pressure, causing Lakeview to turn the ball over 8 of 33 times this period. Brabec began the rally once again, followed by an aggressive steal and score by Milliken.
Steals by Reeves and Maddie Larson led to free throws by Mallory Lindstrom, Emma Hastings and M. Larson. Hastings’ baseline three gave way to a Warrior 10-1 run.
Wahoo went silent for the next four possessions while Columbus Lakeview kept afloat by sinking two baskets in a row; however, it was Milliken who sank the final score of the half, giving the Warriors a 19-10 lead at halftime.
The third quarter began with a bang. An assist by Milliken to Lindstrom ignited the Warriors. A Reeves assist to Elly Larson gave the Warriors a 23-12 lead after two possessions. Columbus Lakeview responded with a steal, basket and several free throws.
Wahoo got back on track with an assist by Taryn Scheef to Reeves. Fouled shots led to free throws by Milliken and E. Larson, and a steal and score by Scheef kept the game in Wahoo’s hands.
Two threes by Lakeview gave the opponents a small glimmer of hope. Once again baskets by E. Larson and Reeves canceled that hope. Wahoo ended the third quarter up, 34-24.
Wahoo’s defense exploded in the fourth quarter, leading the Warriors to an 11-0 run. Lakeview was forced to 8 turnovers in the first 10 possessions. Wahoo got their hands on steals and finished on the offensive end, producing scores by Milliken, Brabec, Lindstrom and Reeves. Wahoo’s 11-0 performance opened the game up, 45-24,
Columbus Lakeview would not surrender to defeat. Wahoo rallied off another 9 points before opening it up to the youth to finish. A free throw by Sarah Iversen and driving basket by Cali Britton sealed the Warrior victory, 59-39.
“We had many bright moments in this final regulation game against Columbus Lakeview,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “It was nice to see Shelby lead her team to a great victory on senior night!”

The Wahoo Warriors geared up Friday night to take charge of Arlington for the second time this season, beating the Eagles 74-42.
Arlington owned the tip and sank the first basket of the night; however, Wahoo turned on the turbos and never looked back.
A steal by Shelby Milliken led to an assist by Hallie Reeves to Mallory Lindstrom. Wahoo scored on the next six possessions with baskets from Brianna Brabec, Emma Hastings and Maddie Larson. Brabec finished an and-one, and Reeves sank her free throws.
Wahoo’s defense caused the Eagles a lot of trouble, forcing 10 turnovers and creating a long, scoreless stretch, ending the grace period 20-5.
Wahoo continued to dominate on both ends. A steal and score by Reeves started a 7-0 run before Arlington could deliver on an and-one play. Lindstrom sank a 15-footer, followed by a baseline three by Taryn Sheef.
A strong rebound and outlet pass by Elly Larson led to an and-one by Milliken. The Warriors went on a lull for two possessions, but got back on track with a finished product from E. Larson.
Four Warrior steals produced good results. In the final minute of the half a steal by E. Larson gave way to a basket by Brabec, and a steal by Lindstrom paved the way for the final basket by Milliken to end the half up 38-16.
The Warriors stayed strong in the 3rd quarter. Four assists, one steal, five baskets and perfect free throws led to a solid 12-2 early performance in the first six possessions.
Wahoo’s defense again overpowered Arlington. Six Warriors had their hands in the 20-9 excursion. Brabec and Lindstrom combined for 13-points, and Milliken, E. Larson, M. Larson and Reeves combined for the remainder that ended the 3rd quarter, 58-25.
An offensive rebound put back by E. Larson put the Warriors in motion to start the fourth quarter, followed by a steal and score by Lindstrom. Brabec took the next 4 points, and Scheef and Sarah Iversen hit 4 of 4 free throws.
In the final minutes, Arlington was able to muster some scores, but not enough. It was Kinsley Tingelhoff, Jaci Schnakenberg and Katie Pearson that put the final touches on the board, and the Warriors took the win, 74-42.
“Our efforts and teamwork tonight were great after the loss against Gretna,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “We need this kind of play from here on out!”

The Wahoo Warriors lost to Gretna 54-27 at home on Thursday.
A steal and score by Shelby Milliken, followed by another quick score by Brianna Brabec, highlighted a Wahoo 4-0 start. That energy soon faded as the Warriors’ turnovers and lack of scores casted fate.
The Dragons lit up two perfect three’s and connected on four free throws to take a 10-4 turn around lead. Brabec sank 1 of 2 shooting fouls before Gretna sank another basket. Mallory Lindstrom added the next 4 points for the Warriors, and Milliken finished 2-2 from the line.
Gretna’s shooting weapons were on, producing two more three’s and a couple of deuces to take full control of the Warriors after 8 minutes of play, 22-11.
Wahoo battled the boards in the second quarter several times in a single possession, but could not come up with the basket. Brabec was able to connect on a basket and free throws, and Emma Hastings finished the last possession with a 15-footer from the left side.
The Dragons were able to play stress free and outscored the Warriors in the second quarter, 15-6.
The Warriors ended the half down by 20, 37-17.
The sluggishness on defense and the slow production on the offensive end persisted in the 2nd half for the Warriors and made it very difficult to compete.
Gretna dominated all four quarters and took the win, 54-27.
“We were slow and mentally not sharp tonight,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “Gretna is a solid team and we didn’t come ready to battle.”

Warrior Girls Basketball: 3rd place in 2016 NCC Tourney
Wahoo defeated Fort Calhoun to capture 3rd place at the 2016 Capitol Conference Tournament.
The Wahoo Warriors stayed consistently strong throughout all four quarters of play Saturday afternoon against the Pioneers.
Quick guard scores by Brianna Brabec and Shelby Milliken, and a nice turn around jump shot by Mallory Lindstrom provided a 6-2 start for the Warriors.
The Pioneers sank a two and free throws to keep them alive, and then drained a three. The Warriors kept cool and scored on an offensive rebound, a steal and free throws. Wahoo trailed by one, 12-13.
A score by Elly Larson and an and-one by Hallie Reeves boosted the Warriors’ pursuit to get the 2nd period started on a scoring note.
Wahoo’s 1-3-1 defense forced 7 turnovers, and strong defensive post play bothered Fort Calhoun. The Warriors extended the lead by scoring on seven of the last ten possessions.
An assist by Emma Hastings to E. Larson fueled the attack. Another assist by Reeves to Hastings soon followed. Reeves took net on the next play while, Taryn Scheef connected at the line and on a steal and assist by Hastings.
Wahoo finished the first half with a comfortable 8-point lead, 30-22.
Warriors came out the 3rd quarter with a mission to keep control of the game. Brabec nailed the first shot, followed by a steal and fouled shot free throws by Reeves.
Fort Calhoun regrouped and sank a draining three; however, Brabec came right back and swished a three of her own. An offensive board by Scheef led to another draining top-of-the-key three by Hastings, giving Wahoo a 42-29 lead.
Wahoo went stale for a period of time. Four Warrior turnovers disrupted their momentum. Hastings’ last-second score broke the cold spell and kept the Warriors on top, 45-35.
The consistent defense and scoring continued for the Warriors in the final 8 minutes of play. Brabec’s attack and hot shooting continued in the final minutes, draining two threes, with perfect shooting at the line after a foul.
A defensive board by Maddie Larson led to a score by Scheef. Free throws by Milliken, Reeves, and Lindstrom were good to the Warriors.
Wahoo avenged their earlier loss to the Pioneers, and captured the 3rd place Capitol Conference win.
“We played with energy and confidence,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “It was good for us to revenge our early loss with Fort Calhoun, and rebound positively after a beating by Platteview.”

Trouble scoring made it very difficult for the Warriors to contend with undefeated #1 Platteview Trojans in the 2nd round of the NCC Tourney.
The first quarter held much frustration for the Warriors. Wahoo was doing everything in their ability to attack, execute and draw fouls. Disappointing no calls would not allow the Warriors to take advantage of the line, and change the tone of the game set in favor of powerhouse Platteview.
A drive and basket by Hallie Reeves was the only score Wahoo could muster, while the Trojans connected on foul shots and a few baskets.
Platteview took the lead after 8 minutes, 9-2.
Wahoo scored an easy bucket on the very first possession of the 2nd quarter, but Platteview’s precise threes and added consistent scoring widened the margin. The Warriors were not able to reciprocate the scoring frenzy.
A two-pointer by Mallory Lindstrom and a steal/assist by Elly Larson to Taryn Scheef gave Wahoo one last score before entering halftime down 28-8.
The damage was ultimately done in the first half. Despite the odds, the Warriors came out of halftime ready to make the most of it. A steal and layup by Lindstrom sparked a little attention. Wahoo finally took to the free throw line, and Reeves, Emma Hastings and Brianna Brabec sank 4 of 6 from the charity line.
The Trojans outscored the Warriors 9-8 in the third quarter.
Wahoo did not begin the 4th quarter on a positive note. A turnover and a three-point foul just added to the destruction. Platteview sank all three free throws and continued building a heftier lead.
Wahoo lost to Platteview 51-21 in the 2nd round of Conference play, and headed into Saturday’s Consolation game facing 10-6 Fort Calhoun.
“The 1st quarter frustrations of no calls that would normally be called, and our lack of offensive scoring made it very difficult to compete with Platteview tonight,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “There’s no question that Platteview is good and more talented; however, a change in tone early and player fouls can change attitude and make the basket seem a whole lot bigger.”

The Wahoo Warriors put up big numbers against the Arlington Eagles in the first round of Conference play.
A season game-high of 82 points scored, and 4 players in double digits, led to a Warrior 82-52 victory.
The Warriors were ignited by Brianna Brabec’s three from the left side wing, followed by a driving lay up that began a good night for Wahoo. The Eagles were off to a good start as well, scoring 8 points in 3 possessions. It was the next phase of the game that the Warriors took charge.
Wahoo began causing havoc on defense, and forced the Eagles to 7 turnovers. The Warrior offense was damaging as well. A scoring epic took place, led by Brabec and Mallory Lindstrom.
Taryn Scheef, Emma Hastings, Hallie Reeves and Shelby Milliken added to the mix with offensive scores. The Warriors stole the ball 6 of 23 times this grace period and took a 26-14 lead after 8 minutes of play.
Turnovers for the Eagles continued to plague their rhythm in the 2nd period. Wahoo capitalized on 10 of 16 possessions. Brabec scored 7 of her game-high 23 this quarter, and once again steals by Milliken, Scheef and Reeves led to several high percentage scores.
The Warriors held a solid 47-25 lead in 16 minutes of play.
Arlington managed to outscore Wahoo in the 3rd period 18-15; however, the Warriors continued their mission. Hastings scored on Wahoo’s first possession, followed by an offensive rebound put back by Elly Larson. A second trey by Brabec, followed by a steal and layup, expanded Wahoo’s lead, 56-29.
The Warriors were held scoreless for the next 6 possessions; however, the chill broke with scores from Lindstrom, Hastings and a last effort score by Scheef. The Eagles were able to hit three twenty footers, but not enough to make up the difference.
Wahoo started the 4th quarter up 62-43.
All 13 Warriors took part in a strong 4th quarter performance, outscoring the Eagles 20-9, and forcing Arlington to 8 of their 32 turnovers for the game.
Wahoo won 82-52 over Arlington and advanced to the 2nd round against undefeated Platteview.
“It was a good, good night for the Warriors,” commented Head Coach Linda Walker. “We scored a lot of points tonight, and it was great to get the bench some experience.”

Wahoo traveled to Norfolk Friday afternoon to take on the Lady Knights.
A three by Brianna Brabec put the Warriors in motion, but a long stretch of absent Warrior scoring, and 7 of 7 free throws by the Knights gave the opponents the lead.
Midway through the first quarter, the Warriors broke the spell. Mallory Lindstrom sank her first shot of the game, followed by an and-one by Shelby Milliken. Taryn Scheef was soon to add two more points; however, a steal by the Knights gave way to an and-one play of their own that ended the first period battle in a tie, 11-11.
Wahoo jumped on it early in the 2nd to take the lead. Back-to-back scores by Milliken and Brabec gave Wahoo a 4-point lead.
The cold struck twice, and the Warriors went stale for seven possessions before Milliken was able to connect. Meanwhile the Knights marched and capped on 8 points.
The Warriors remained scoreless for the remainder of the quarter, and the Knights won out in the 2nd quarter 11-6.

Wahoo’s defense struggled in the third quarter to contain the Knights, and Norfolk Catholic took to the rim. Baskets by Brabec, Emma Hastings and Lindstrom, and 1 for 2 free throws by Brabec and Elly Larson helped the Warriors, but the defensive breakdowns led to a 17-8 devastating 3rd quarter.
Wahoo now trailed 25-39.
Wahoo tried to turn up the defense and attack the basket with a purpose, but the damage was done, and the Warriors fell to defeat, 39-56.
“Too many long spells of no scoring are killing us,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “We need to make our free throws and play better defense when these occur, and follow through on our shots.”

Wahoo’s low-scoring 2nd half production doomed their chances of winning against conference foe Raymond Central at home Tuesday evening. The Mustangs defeated the Warriors 46-37.
The Mustangs came ready, and scored on an and-one play and a three pointer, taking a 6-point lead early in the game. Four flawless free throws by Brianna Brabec and Mallory Lindstrom put Wahoo on the board, beginning the battle.
Wahoo battled and led 11-9 late in the quarter, but a Warrior turnover gave way to the Mustangs, tying first period 11-11.
Wahoo regrouped and took back the lead with a drive and jump shot from Lindstrom, followed by a finished shot by Elly Larson. Shot fouls and free throws helped the Mustangs keep the game in check.
Warriors went scoreless for the next 6 possessions, but the last 5 possessions were productive. Brabec hit 1 of 2 free throws and Emma Hastings’ drive produced 2 more free throws and a deuce. However, it was Taryn Scheef’s finished 2-pointer and baseline three that boosted the Warriors to a 25-21 half time score.
Turnovers and missed opportunities plagued the Warriors in the third quarter. A steal and made three by the Mustangs closed the gap. Shelby Milliken’s corner three gave Wahoo relief. Raymond Central answered right back with a dribble pull up three.
A nice drive by Brabec kept the lead in Wahoo’s hands. Poor passes and turnovers started to happen that put the Warriors back on their heels. The Mustangs fired up and begin attacking the basket. Slow to respond, Wahoo was outscored 8-1 in the last phase of the 3rd quarter, falling behind 31-35 after 24 minutes of play.
An and-one play to start the final grace period fueled the Mustang to an even more comfortable lead. The Warriors tried to regain their composer with a steal by E. Larson and an offensive rebound put back by Brabec. Weak defense inside allowed easy baskets in the paint to occur and RC to be the controllers.
The race to capture back the lead ended when Wahoo was forced to foul, and Raymond Central finished at the line.
Wahoo loses the battle against Raymond Central, 37-46.

Wahoo Warriors dominated D.C. West Saturday afternoon from start to finish, 64-17.
It was Emma Hastings who had the hot hand early to begin the Saturday afternoon conquest against Falcons. Hastings’ right side three, a steal, and two layups set the pace for the Warriors. Soon to follow was a free throw by Mallory Lindstrom, and a steal and score by Shelby Milliken that called for a D.C. West timeout.
The Falcons were able to get their first score of the day on an offensive rebound. It didn’t take long for the Warriors to continue their pursuit. Lindstrom put 3 more points on the board, as well as a two from Elly Larson, and a trey from Brianna Brabec that tallied an 18-4 first quarter performance.
An offensive rebound and foul on the shot led Hastings to two on the line. Seconds later Milliken connected on a two, followed by a Brabec lay up.
The Warriors forced their opponents to 7 of 23 turnovers, and continued to build a good solid lead. E. Larson was able to pull the offensive rebound and finish while she assisted her sister Maddie for her first two points of the game.
The Warrior bench provided some great minutes. Cali Britton came off the bench and sank her first varsity three. Taryn Scheef finished on 4 more points to give Wahoo a 35-6 advantage.
Many different combinations of girls collaborated for a productive second half. Wahoo held the Falcons to just three points. A left wing trey by Milliken and a coast-to-coast layup by Lindstrom once again put the Warriors in motion. Scores from Brabec, Jaci Schnakenberg, Britton and M. Larson gave way to a 17-3 offensive performance to end the quarter up 52-9.
Wahoo entered the 4th quarter with a running clock and once again outscored the Falcons 12-4. Two threes by Scheef and Sarah Iversen and a two-pointer by Kinsley Tingelhoff ended the night with all eleven Warriors scoring.
Wahoo won 64-13.
“We haven’t had a game like this all season where we dominated from the jump to the end of the game,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “It was good to get all the bench involved and nice to see everyone contribute.”

The Wahoo Warriors fell to defeat to the Platteview Trojans this past Friday night, 38-51.
The Trojans were a tough match up for the Warriors from start to finish, especially without point guard Hallie Reeves, who injured herself earlier in the week.
Brianna Brabec took over the point guard and sank 1 of 2 to start the night for the Warriors. A strong defensive rebound and a coast-to-coast basket by Mallory Lindstrom provided a 3-0 start.
It didn’t take long though for Platteview’s Payton Brotski to light it up and take advantage of several 1-on-1 opportunities.
Despite their opponent’s pursuit, the Warriors continued attacking on the offensive end, but unfortunately Wahoo could not draw the shooting fouls, which allowed the Trojans to record 4 of 9 blocks this quarter alone, and set a different tone for the game.
The Warriors ended first quarter down 8-15.
Wahoo committed two turnovers early to begin the 2nd quarter. Shelby Milliken avenged the missed opportunities by finishing on 2 of 4 free throws, and sinking a two-pointer to make it a 3-point ball game.
The Trojans responded to the Warrior chase with a 12-3 run in the next 6 possessions to widen the spread and leave Wahoo behind, 16-31.
Two effortless threes by Brotski took the sails out of the Warriors in the first two possessions of the third, expanding the lead 37-15. Four free throws by Taryn Scheef and a two-point basket by Elly Larson were the only Warrior scores this quarter.
Warriors were outscored 14-6 in the third quarter.
Good things started to happen in the fourth quarter for Wahoo. A three-pointer by Milliken, followed by a basket by Emma Hastings, helped shed some light. Platteview fouled several times on the Warriors’ shot attempts. This enabled Wahoo to sink 7 free throws down the stretch; however, it was a three-point buzzer shot by Scheef that roused the crowd with cheer.
Wahoo took their 9th loss of the season to Class B #1 Platteview, 38-51.
“We played with intensity and did a lot of good things tonight,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “Platteview is ranked one and sixth overall for a reason.”

The Wahoo Warriors prevailed over Omaha Mercy, 55-53.
Turnovers ailed the Warriors and resulted in fighting from behind the whole first half.
The Monarchs were on the board first, but a quick steal and layup by Brianna Brabec got the Warriors rolling. Mercy responded with a steal and score of their own, but it was Hallie Reeves’ and-one play that gave Wahoo a 5-4 start.
A mirror attack by Mercy provided their own and-one; however, Reeves sank a two-pointer and the game was tied 7-7.
Wahoo failed to rebound and protect the ball several times, and Mercy took advantage and spearheaded a 9-0 run. A final basket by Shelby Milliken and Reeves’ two free throws ended the first grace down 11-17.
Errors plagued the Warriors early in the 2nd, and the Monarchs started to advance their lead. It was Milliken’s three-point shot and lay up that awoke Wahoo.
The Warriors began scoring and playing smarter defense, forcing 8 of 21 turnovers to their opponents. Reeves sank 4/4 free throws, cashed in on a trey and scored at the two-point line. Emma Hastings stole the ball and finished on her lay up and free throw, and a lay up by Brabec put the Warriors in better position.
Wahoo trailed 31-33 after 16 minutes of play.
The start of the third was not what Wahoo had planned. The Monarchs went on a 4-0 run until Elly Larson pulled an offensive rebound and scored. Taryn Scheef then finished on a free throw and connected on a two-point shot. It was Milliken’ s 2-2 free throws that gave the Warriors a 1-point lead.
Wahoo continued their pursuit and had another good run late in the quarter. Mallory Lindstrom sank a free throw, Scheef hit back-to-back scores and Reeves finished on a lay up.
Warriors ended the third in good shape, up 45-39.
The Monarchs didn’t sit back, and began to make a run in the first three possessions of play, finishing on an and-one, a trey and a deuce. Milliken canceled that trey with a sharp three of her own, and Scheef canceled one of the two’s. A welcomed three by Reeves and much-needed free throws by Scheef and Reeves down the stretch held on for the victory.
Wahoo pulled off the win, 55-53.

The Wahoo Warriors traveled to Crete Saturday to take on the Crete Cardinals.
A give and go and foul shot led to a Cardinal and-one play to start the game. Mallory Lindstrom took to the line to sink her first two free throws for the night, followed by another free throw by Brianna Brabec. Crete responded with a three pointer to take a 6-3 lead.
Wahoo owned the next possession. A steal by Elly Larson and an assist by Brabec back to Larson rallied the Warriors. Brabec stole the ball and Hallie Reeves was able to sink the shot, taking a 9-6 lead.
Another three by Crete tied the game; however, Reeves’ layup ended the quarter 11-9 in Wahoo’s favor.
The Crete Cardinals rallied early in the second quarter by hitting two two’s and a trey to take back the lead. Wahoo responded by scoring in 9 of the last 13 possessions. Five different Warriors sank their shots and finished at the line. Emma Hastings and Taryn Scheef scored 6 each this quarter, and the Warriors took a solid 29-20 lead at half time.
Early in the 2nd half Wahoo was back at it. An assist to Hastings for the baseline three and an elbow 2-point basket by E. Larson gave Wahoo an even better lead.
The momentum turned when Crete became more attacking and beat the Warriors on the boards. Wahoo failed to box out and Crete accounted 8 points off of offensive rebounds.
Wahoo still held a four-point lead heading into the final 8 minutes, 40-36.
Lindstrom was fouled to start final period, and sank both her free throws to build back a comfortable 6-point lead for the Warriors. Crete was quick to respond by nailing their 6th three pointer of the game. Wahoo turned the ball over on the next possession and the Cardinals attacked, finishing on an and-one play to tie the game.
Warriors began to play tight and ended up turning the ball over four times in the last six possessions and were forced to foul. The Warriors had several opportunities to win the game, but were unable to make it happen.
Crete went on to win the game, 47-44.
“I feel this was a game we let slip away,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “We gave up too many offensive rebounds and put backs in the third quarter when we had the chance to put Crete away.”

Wahoo launched a 59-30 victory over the Syracuse Rockets last Friday.
The Warriors took a strong stand early against the Rockets. A steal by Mallory Lindstrom and a lay up by Brianna Brabec began the night. A long rebound and speed by Brabec allowed a coast-to-coast basket. Hallie Reeves drained the three on the next possession that merited the Rockets taking their first time out.
Wahoo continued to keep the Rockets scoreless for 11 possessions. A finish basket by Elly Larson and a free throw led to an 11-0 run in a matter of minutes.
Strong defense by the Warriors appeared to cause the Rockets trouble. Syracuse mishandled the ball 10 of 26 times during this quarter alone. An assist by Emma Hastings to Shelby Milliken for the baseline 18 footer sealed the first quarter.
After 8 minutes of play Wahoo lead 16-6.
Two steals in a row set the tone once again in the 2nd quarter. Wahoo’s movement against the Rockets’ 2-3 defense made baskets, and their attack put them to the line, hitting 5 of 6 free throws and outscoring the Rockets 15-8.
Wahoo entered half up 31-14.
Brabec drove to the basket once again, and sank the first score of the third quarter. An offensive board and score by Hastings fueled Wahoo’s attack. The Warriors dominated the last 4 possessions of the quarter with a Reeves’ 2-point score, two more scores from Brabec, and a final basket by Taryn Scheef.
Wahoo ended the 3rd quarter up 43-20.
The Warriors continued to dominate through the 4th quarter. A baseline three by Milliken fueled a 13-6 run in the first six possessions. A final three by Milliken capped the Warriors’ performance with a 59-30 victory.

Wahoo traveled to Lincoln Lutheran and ended the night victorious, 46-37.
Brianna Brabec sank 1 of 2 free throws to start the night for the Warriors. Another score by Brabec and a score by Elly Larson set the tone for the night.
A Hallie Reeve’s steal and a finished and-one play caught Lincoln Lutheran off guard; however, Lutheran responded to the call with a 3-point conversion of their own.
Three turnovers in a row slowed Wahoo’s pursuit, but another steal, score and free throw by Reeves gave an 11-10 first quarter performance.
It took awhile for Wahoo to regain momentum in the second quarter after turning the ball over four times in a row. Mallory Lindstrom broke the ice by sinking a free throw, and an and-one play by Brabec, followed by some Shelby Milliken free throws, put Wahoo in action.
The third steal of seven for the night by Reeves allowed Taryn Scheef to be fouled on the shot, sinking her two free throws. Emma Hastings then went on to make another free throw.
Wahoo battled the offensive boards, and a rebound and finish product by Scheef put the Warriors up at half, 22-21.
Third quarter was a bit of a struggle for Wahoo. A lone two-point conversion by Brabec and much needed free throw points by Maddie Larson were the only scores for the Warriors. The Lutheran Warriors were able to outscore Wahoo 10-5 and took a 4-point advantage, ending the third quarter with Wahoo down 27-31.
Determination and teamwork prevailed in the fourth. A strong defensive rebound by Lindstrom to Reeves enabled her to go coast to coast to ignite the fire. The fire kept burning with a left side trey by Brabec. Seconds later a steal by Scheef to Reeves gave another opportunity to finish on an and-one play.
The Wahoo Warriors finally had the edge over their opponents and Lincoln Lutheran was forced to foul. The Warriors kept the lead by making their free throws.
The combination of defenses all night finally took a toll on Lutheran. Wahoo caused havoc on defense and forced Lutheran to turn the ball over nine times in the fourth quarter.
“We never lost our focus tonight, even when the pressure was on, and our bench did a nice job coming in and making good things happen,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “This was a much-needed win!”

Warriors put together their best first quarter offensive play Saturday afternoon at Fort Calhoun, outscoring Ft. Calhoun 20-15 in 8 minutes of play.
The night began with Brianna Brabec’s attack to the basket, drawing the foul and sinking the free throws. Hallie Reeves assisted Mallory Lindstrom for two.
Wahoo had a fine hardy stretch of good shooting midway through the quarter. Brabec nailed the first three pointer, followed by a steal and score by Reeves. A strong offensive board by Elly Larson gave way to a basket, and on the next trip down the floor Reeves drained another three.
The Warriors continued two more times with cashing threes by Taryn Scheef and Brabec, taking a 20-15 lead over the Pioneers.
Fort Calhoun regrouped 2nd quarter and charged at the Warriors, tying the game until Emma Hastings sank her first three of three for the night.
Wahoo went on an 11 to 5 run late in the quarter to give the Warriors a three-point cushion heading into halftime, 35-32.
The 3rd quarter didn’t go as planned, and the Warriors were outscored 19-9. Wahoo turned the ball over three times in a row, causing a shift in momentum. Four more turnovers this quarter, missed opportunities, and break downs in defense put the Warriors back on their heels.
Pioneers lead after 24 minutes, 53-44.
A three by Shelby Milliken and another by Hastings squeezed the gap, but the fouls committed by the Warriors early in the 3rd quarter haunted the comeback. The Pioneers sank 8 of 8 from the line and kept the scoring margin in their favor.
The Warriors continued to battle, but damages done early were too much to overcome.
Wahoo lost to Ft. Calhoun 61-72.
“We scored a lot of points, but our defense gave up way to many bunnies!” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “Credit the Pioneers for a good game plan, and shooting the ball well (58.7 F.G. %).”

The Warriors traveled to Pierce Saturday afternoon to face the three-time state champions on their home court.
From the tip to the end of the first 8 minutes of play, Pierce’s dual inside players, Brahmer and Bretshneider, made things quite difficult for the Warriors early on.
Wahoo struggled at times to get through their opponent’s zone press, and only two free throws were recorded. Pierce’s consistent scores produced a 16-2 quarter.
The Warriors changed strategies and began to really pack it in the paint on defense and made Pierce shoot the outside shot. Mallory Lindstrom broke Wahoo’s 2-point offensive spell, followed by 2 free throws by Elly Larson.
The Warriors trailed at halftime 23-7; however, the Pierce Bluejays were kept to 7 points in the second quarter.
“Pierce has a well-balanced team,” commented Head Coach Linda Walker. “We decided to pack it in more the second half and take a chance with their outside shooting.”
The third quarter began with a steal by E. Larson and an assist by Hallie Reeves to Shelby Milliken to produce the first Warrior trey of the night. Lindstrom pulled two offensive rebounds in the same possession and was fouled on the shot, sinking both free throws.
Wahoo took a 5-0 run on Pierce and caused them to turn the ball over 3 times before they cashed a three. E. Larson’s deuce and Taryn Scheef’s trey helped keep the Warrior spirit alive.
Wahoo battled and won out the third quarter 10-9; however, the Bluejays remained on top and held the lead 17-33.
Limiting the number of possessions and making it harder for Pierce’s inside game to score caused some frustrations for their opponents. Free throws by E. Larson and Milliken’s second trey of the night added to Wahoo’s motivation to win out the second half battle.
With minutes to play the Bluejays went into their delay game to get the Warriors to pick them up man to man. The Warriors did just that and forced several adjustments by their opponents.
Pierce Bluejays went on to win 44-24.

Two fairly even teams took to the court Friday night. Both Wahoo and Wayne played solid defense all night long, but had difficulty scoring against each other.
The Warriors had plenty of key opportunities to score by taking 17 attempts in 17 possessions in the first quarter. Luckily their opponents were having difficulty as well. Two steals and assists by Hallie Reeves to Shelby Milliken and Emma Hastings were the only produced scores in the first quarter.
Wayne Blue Devils took a slim 5-4 lead after 8 minutes of play.
The defensive battle continued throughout the 2nd quarter, and the game remained close. Wayne scored on their first attempt; however, the Warriors were able to take an 8-7 lead after the first two possessions. Warrior turnovers would kill Wahoo’s momentum to find consistency in their game. Scores by Reeves, Milliken and Taryn Scheef kept the game in check.
Wayne lead at half time 12-10.
Third quarter for the Warriors was a mirror image of their first half performance. Wayne’s #35 Schaefer took advantage and found herself wide-open, draining 7 of her 12 points for the game this quarter. Lindstrom was the lone scorer early in the third to try to keep the Warriors from falling too far behind.
A huge energy builder came in the third quarter when Mallory Lindstrom took a charge. A steal by Scheef and a layup by Milliken started to change the tone of the game for the Warriors.
Wahoo went into the fourth quarter down 17-23.
The fire was finally lit for the Warriors as they held the Blue Devils scoreless for the first 7 possessions of the final quarter. Scheef’s right side trey, followed by another 2-point basket ignited what was missing all night. A deuce by Reeves and a trey by Milliken soon followed, and Wahoo led 27-25, taking their first lead of the game.
Wayne didn’t back down and answered the call. The Warriors gave up two offensive rebounds and allowed the Blue Devils to finally hit the trey shot, taking back the lead.
The game remained tight for the next three possessions. Wahoo missed two huge opportunities to build the one-point lead, and ended with two changes of possession instead, and a drive-to-the-basket score by Wayne.
Wayne then led by one, but Brianna Brabec saved the Warriors by sinking the 15-foot shot from the left side base. The Warriors were up by one with 15 seconds remaining on the clock.
The solid defense that kept both teams alive doomed the Warriors’ hopes for the victory as the Blue Devils scored with seconds remaining.
Wayne skimmed the win, 31-30.
“Even though things didn’t go our way for most of this game, we put ourselves in the position to win the game and battled the 4th quarter,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “The loss doesn’t feel good, but the season is young and there is plenty of time to grow.”

Tuesday evening’s game started out a bit rocky for the Warriors. They found themselves down 4-10 after one quarter against the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays.
The Warriors regrouped the second quarter and outscored their opponents 8-3. Hallie Reeves, Maddie Larson, Elly Larson and Shelby Milliken combined for the 8 points that helped the Warriors get acquainted on offense.
Wahoo’s defense forced the Bluejays to turn the ball over 7 times in 12 possessions this quarter alone; however, Ashland still held a slim lead at halftime, 13-12.
Defense kept steady the third quarter. Wahoo unified and produced on the offensive end. A corner three by Milliken began the run, followed by a strong offensive put back by Reeves. A steal and score by Reeves and two’s by Emma Hastings and M. Larson allowed the Warriors to pull away 21-13.
Three of four free throws by Hastings and Brianna Brabec sealed the third quarter with Wahoo up 26-17.
Whoo controlled the fourth quarter on both ends of the court, causing the Blue Jays to remain flightless. Five consecutive lay-ups by four different Warriors sealed the night, and Wahoo would go on to defeat Ashland-Greenwood, 41-25.

The battle of the boards and five attempts by the Warriors could not produce a score in the first possession of the game. Seward took the lead, but a steal by Elly Larson and an and-one play gave the Warriors proof that the fight was on.
Both teams failed to score for a long time until Shelby Milliken was fouled and put to the line, making her two free throws.

Wahoo reacted with a massive, productive second quarter! Mallory Lindstrom began the battle by sinking her two free throws. A quick steal and assist by Taryn Scheef to Brianna Brabec closed the gap before Seward could get its first score.

The Warriors continued to dominate the next five possessions with scores from Hallie Reeves, Lindstrom, Emma Hastings and Maddie Larson; however, the Bluejays kept a close distance.
The last 3 of 4 possessions of the first half were solid for the Warriors. A steal, free throws and a three-point shot by Reeves and a two-point basket by Milliken put the Warriors in good shape, going into halftime up 26-18.
Momentum changed hands after the half. The Seward Bluejays broke through the 1-3-1 trap, and enabled a 7-0 scoring run. Wahoo regained their composure. Brianna Brabec scored on two back-to-back baskets, while Reeves and Milliken finished on the next two possessions.
Warriors held a 34-33 lead heading into the final minutes.
The Bluejays began the final quarter by sinking two free throws to take the lead. A steal by Scheef to Reeves put the Warriors back on top.
Seward answered by nailing the corner three on the next possession, giving them a cushion of two, then four.
The Warriors rallied and trailed by one after Reeves and Milliken sank 3 of 4 from the line.
Wahoo continued to battle, but time struck zero, and the Bluejays took the victory, 44-40.
“We let this one slip away,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “We didn’t play with the same intensity to start the third quarter that we needed. Our traps were weak and we lost our focus at times. This allowed Seward to close the gap and prevail.”

A real slow first half for the Warriors turned into a devastating second half for the visitors, as Wahoo outscored Bennington 40-5 in the last 16 minutes!
The Badgers took a 9-11 lead after the first 8 minutes of play. Senior Shelby Milliken hit the first two free throws to put the Warriors on the board. Hallie Reeves and Mallory Lindstrom hit back-to-back two’s, while Brianna Brabec scored on an and-one play.
The second quarter scores were far and few; however, the Warrior defense caused the Badgers to turn the ball over 9 times. Lone free throws by Reeves and a deuce by Emma Hastings gave the Warriors 4 more points before entering the half, up 13-12.
It was just a matter of time before the explosion hit in the second half! Wahoo’s 1-3-1 defense took charge and left the Badgers blinded. Maddie Larson’s assist to Brabec began the crusade. Wahoo converted steals into scores and really showed their athleticism. Brabec, Reeves and Milliken combined for 6 steals this quarter that converted into 9 points. Hastings sank a two and then finished the quarter by draining the three.
Wahoo lead 34-14 after three quarters.
Wahoo continued to overpower the Badgers in the fourth quarter. Quick scores by Elle Larson, Brabec and Lindstrom widened the gap. An and-one play by Milliken and three more points gave Wahoo a 47-15 spread.
The Warriors didn’t stop there. Assists by Cali Britton and M. Larson allowed Taryn Scheef, Sarah Iversen and Hastings to add 6 more points, defeating Bennington 53-17.
“We responded so well after half-time,” said Head Coach Linda Walker. “We’re so young, and it feels good to get this first win under our belt!”
