WMS/WHS students leave their mark at 2018 Nebraska State SkillsUSA Leadership Conference
WHS senior Mary Privett takes 2nd-straight State Championship in Restaurant Service; WMS girls take State Championship in OCC; WMS boys take 3rd in rigorous Team Engineering Challenge
Five high school and ten middle students competed in the Nebraska State SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference on April 12-14 in Grand Island at State Fair Park.
The weather was a bit chilly, but we persevered and had a successful trip.
Students competed in Restaurant Service, Welding, Applied Technical Math, and Technical Team Problem Solving. We also had two middle school teams that qualified for State by winning their competition at the East Middle School Conference! Those teams were Opening and Closing Ceremony (OCC) and Team Engineering Challenge.
Wahoo had a great showing with Mary Privett winning her 2nd consecutive State Championship in Restaurant Service! Mary was joined by the middle school OCC team (Brooklyn Garlock, Audrie Lepore, Grace Darling, Zoe Abramo, Brynn Brewer, Aspen Eckley, and Esmeralda Perez), who also won a State Championship!
Both Mary and the OCC team qualified for National SkillsUSA this summer in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Team Engineering Challenge students (Michael Robinson, Garritt Kavan, and Joe Herrera) from the middle school came home with a bronze medal after a very close competition in which a small margin separated first and third place.

Everyone did a great job, and despite the awful weather, we got home safe and on time!
Congratulations WMS students Michael Robinson, Garritt Kavan, and Joe Herrera: 3rd place in the Team Engineering Challenge at the April 12-14 NE State SkillsUSA Leadership & Skills Conference!
