David Rosenbaum, an Education Specialist at the National Archives & Records Administration in Washington, D.C., offered a videoconference over the Revolutionary War to Mrs. Rezac's 4th/5th grade class.

Wahoo’s Close Up students weren’t the only Wahoo students to visit Washington D.C. last week!

On Wednesday, March 23, students in Mrs. Rezac’s 4th/5th grade class participated in a live videoconference with David Rosenbaum from the National Archives in Washington D.C.

Rosenbaum is originally from Nebraska (a retired teacher from Tri-County High School), and he even wore his Nebraska tie to show his state spirit.

Rosenbaum gave a presentation that was focused on the Revolutionary War, which is what the 5th graders have been studying. He showed many paintings and artifacts from that time period.

Students also saw where the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights are on display.

“I was very proud of my students,” stated Mrs. Rezac. “He asked them many questions about the Revolution, and present information on more recent presidents, and they could answer them all!”

Rosenbaum showed pictures of how they used to store military records in the basement of the White House, and how they are now very organized and stored in the Artifacts building.

One of the students questioned about how the program was being presented from the Rotunda of the building, and Mr. Rosenbaum showed us that it is really a screen printed with a picture of the Rotunda. Even Mr. Privett didn’t know this!

Videoconferencing is a great way to visit places we can’t travel to in school, and we plan to use this tool again.
