Elementary Students Help Celebrate National Nursing Homes Week
Students' "Family Game Night" Artwork on Display at South Haven
5th grade students at Wahoo Elementary will help residents, employees, and visitors at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo celebrate National Nursing Homes Week this year.
The theme of the celebration this year is “Family Game Night.” To help get everyone in the spirit, Wahoo’s 5th grade students are helping out by creating their own versions of popular board games in Art class.

Launch the media gallery 3 playerStudents worked in groups to create a theme for their board game, brainstorm ideas for characters, and create game play rules. The groups then used their ideas to create a large-scale playable game board for their new games. Students had to use their problem solving skills to create the games and to work effectively as a team.
The students had lots of amazingly creative ideas, including an escape from the bottom of the sea, surviving an amusement park, a time travel adventure featuring real historical information from their social studies books, and a “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” game in which the object is to collect batteries to power the shrinking machine and return to normal size. Way to use those imaginations!
The students had fun working with their groups. Some of their reflections on the activity celebrated how great it was that they could all share ideas. One of the challenges their groups faced was trying to compromise so everyone could contribute.
The students’ artwork will be on display at South Haven May 9-14.
