2016 Girls Golf
Warrior season ends with Hannah Polacek at Class B State Championship
Class B State Tournament - 10.10.16 and 10.11.16
Senior Hannah Polacek wrapped up her career Tuesday at the Class B State Championship at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus. Polacek finished with a two-day total of 209, which was good for 44th place.
On day 1 Polacek battled through windy conditions to shoot a 108. On each nine she shot a 54. The highlight of her round was a par on the par 5, 7th hole.
“Hannah’s first round was a battle. Some days you have it and some you don’t. Hannah did a good job of scrambling on a day when she didn’t have her A game,” said Coach Curtis Carlson.
Polacek played through another day of challenging conditions on day 2. With temperatures only in the mid 50’s and breezy conditions, Hannah was able to cut off 7 shots from her first day score. Her round got off to a good start with a 48. The highlight of that nine was a par on the par 5, 13th hole (the hardest hole on the course).
Polacek followed that up with a 53 on the second nine to shoot a 101. Shooting par on the 1st hole was the highlight of the second nine.
“Hannah played a lot better today. She was much more productive off the tee, and that allowed her to score better,” Carlson commented. “I know she was disappointed, but she shot right at her season average which is really all a coach can ask for.”

Hannah Polacek: 2016 Girls Golf State Qualifer!
Warrior senior cards career-best on front 9 at Districts, finishes 7th!
B-2 District Tournament - 10.2.16
The Wahoo Girls Golf team returned to action Monday at the B-2 District Tournament, played at River Wilds Golf Club.
With a trip to State on the line, the girls battled breezy conditions and challenging greens to finish in fifth place with a team score of 466.
Even though the team missed qualifying, senior Hannah Polacek made sure that the Warriors would be represented in Columbus. Polacek came out on fire with a career-best 43 to put herself in a great position headed to the back nine. On the back Polacek cooled off a bit, but still was able to card a 49.
Polacek’s 92 was good for 7th place.
“It was a great day for Hannah to have a career day. She really hit the ball well today, including hitting her tee shot to less than a foot on the 110-yard, par 3, 14th hole. Hannah was also lights out on the green on the front nine which helped her shoot her 43,” said Coach Curtis Carlson.
Sophomore Shelby Griego had the next best score for the Warriors with a 121. Even though it was a disappointing day, she was able to finish the round on a high note by making par on her last hole.
Three shots back of Griego was fellow sophomore Anna Dobesh. Dobesh was able to bounce back from a disastrous finish to her front nine to fire a 51 on the back side.
Also scoring was senior Hannah Brust (129) and junior Maddie Rappl (133). Both girls birdied the par 3, 7th hole. Brust stuck her tee shot to about 7 feet and made her birdie putt. Rappl chipped in from just off the green.
“The girls hit some really good shots at times today, but unfortunately they also had some bad holes. There were some serious nerves early in the day, which is to be expected when you have golfers who haven’t played a lot of high pressure tournaments,” Carlson commented. “It was a really good learning experience for the girls who will be back next year. For Hannah it was awesome to see all her hard work over the last four years pay off. We will really miss the leadership that the seniors provided this year.”
The State Tournament will be played at Quail Run Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.

Warrior finish 2nd in home triangular after tie-breaking playoff; Districts slated for Monday in Blair
Wahoo Triangular (PINK OUT!) - 9.29.16
After a busy regular season, the Warriors wrapped things up with a home triangular against Arlington and Platteview. The event was played at Hilltop Country Club and the girls had perfect conditions.
As a change of pace the girls played the meet as a scramble. Each school had two teams and each team’s score was combined to find a champion. Both Arlington and Wahoo finished with a 90, but Arlington won the playoff. Platteview was one shot back.
“The girls had a lot of fun today, which was the goal. During the regular season they are always on their own so they really enjoyed being able to play with their teammates,” said Coach Curtis Carlson. “I also want to thank Saunders Medical Center for sponsoring the Pink Out Event. All of the girls were really excited about today after getting to experience the Pink Out Event last year.”
The next event will be the district tournament at River Wild Golf Course in Blair on Monday. The start time for the event will be 9:00 a.m.

Warrior girls take 2nd at Elmwood-Murdock Invite
Elmwood-Murdock Invitational - 9.20.16
The Wahoo Girls Golf team was back in action on Monday at the Elmwood-Murdock Invitational played at Grandpa Woods.
The girls had to battle gusty winds in the afternoon, but were still able to finish in 2nd place overall with a team score of 383.
Leading the way for the Warriors was Hannah Polacek. Polacek finished with an 86, which was good for 6th place.
Hannah Brust just missed medaling, finishing with a 95, which was good for 12th place.
Shelby Griego was four shots back of Brust with a 99.
Four shots behind Griego was Maddie Rappl with a 103 to round out the team scoring.
Also playing for the Warriors was Payton Carstens, who finished with a 131.
“Finishing runner-up was great for the girls,” said Coach Curtis Carlson. “There are a couple teams in the field that will have a good chance of qualifying for state in Class C. Individually there were a lot of really good scores on a course that can be unforgiving. We need to continue to build off our success and get ready for districts next Monday.”
The girls will be back in action on Thursday at Hilltop Country Club in a triangular with Arlington and Platteview.

Polacek & Griego lead team to 3rd place finish @ Arlington Invite
Arlington Invitational - 9.20.16
On Tuesday the Wahoo Girls Golf team was back on the links at the Arlington Invitational, played at the Fremont Golf Club.
The girls finished with a team score of 459 on the par 75 course. Their score was good for 3rd place out of 8 schools.
Senior Hannah Polacek continued her steady play, finishing in 4th place. Polacek finished her day with a couple pars to finish with a 102.
Also placing for the Warriors was sophomore Shelby Griego. Griego shot a 110 to finish in 7th place.
Sophomore Anna Dobesh just missed placing by one shot after finishing with a 120.
Rounding out the scoring for the Warriors was Maddie Rappl (126) and Hannah Brust (134).
“After struggling on the greens at Crete on Friday I felt like we did a much better job today. Yesterday we talked about slowing down and doing a better job of reading the greens, especially on their second putts,” said Coach Curtis Carlson. “Fremont is a really challenging course, and the girls did a great job around the greens. Hannah and Shelby both had good days even though they had a couple of rough holes during their rounds. Hopefully we can continue to build on the progress we have been making.”
The Warriors will be back in action on Monday at the Elmwood-Murdock Invitational.
Warrior Golfers Shelby Griego and Hannah Polacek medaled 7th and 4th place respectively, leading their team to a 3rd place finish at the Sept. 20 Arlington Invite.

Polacek leads the charge with medal @ Crete Invite
Crete Invitational - 9.16.16
The Wahoo Girls Golf team wrapped up the week Friday at the Crete Invitational. The girls were challenged by the quick greens with lots of movement at College Heights Golf Club.
The Warriors were able to finish with a 462, which was good for 6th place out of 11 schools.
Medaling for the Warriors was Hannah Polacek. Polacek shot a 105 to finish in 12th place.
All 4 of Wahoo’s other golfers were within 2 shots of each other and finished in the top half of the field of 52 girls. Shelby Griego (118), Maddie Rappl (119), Hannah Brust (120), and Anna Dobesh (120) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors.
“Today was a very up and down day for the girls. Besides Hannah Polacek, who shot a 51-54, all the other girls had a nine in the mid 50’s and their other one in the mid 60’s. A couple played better the first time around the nine-hole course and a couple played much better the second time around. A big part of the scores were the greens. They are always some of the toughest greens that we see each year because of all the movement. There were a lot of 3 and 4 putts by the girls today,” said Coach Curtis Carlson.
The girls will be back in action on Tuesday at the Arlington Invitational, played at Fremont Country Club.

Polacek and Brust medal at Blair Invite
Blair Invitational - 9.12.16
On Monday the lady Warriors were back in action at the Blair Invitational. The tournament was played at River Wilds Golf Course.
On a breezy day the girls were able to cut several shots off their scores from last year to finish with a team score of 433. That was a 33-shot improvement from last year.
Leading the way once again was senior Hannah Polacek. Polacek shot a 103, which was good for 13th place. Her score was an 18-shot improvement from last year.
Four shots behind Polacek was fellow senior Hannah Brust. Brust’s 107 was good for 19th place. Brust had the low nine-hole score of the day for the Warriors with a 50 on the back nine. Her score was 15 shots better than her round last year.
Junior Maddie Rappl and sophomore Shelby Griego rounded out the team scoring with a 110 and a 113. Rappl’s score was an 11-shot improvement over her round last year. Sophomore Anna Dobesh finished the day with a 123.
“Once again we finished in the top half of the teams today, which is always good,” stated Coach Curtis Carlson. “Hannah Polacek placed for a second meet in a row, and Hannah Brust just missed out on placing by a couple shots. Today was a great chance to play the course where districts will be played. I think that the course is a really good fit, and I am excited to make another trip back there at the start of October.”
The girls will be in action on Friday at the Crete Invitational played at College Heights Golf Club.

Warrior girls take 5th of 13 teams @ Plattsmouth Tourney
Plattsmouth Tournament - 9.8.16
After a day of practice the girls were back on the course at the Plattsmouth Invitational played at Bay Hills Golf Course. The Warriors had perfect conditions to shoot a 442. That was good enough to finish in 5th place out of 13 schools.
Leading the way for the Warriors was Shelby Griego, who finished in 10th place with a 105. Griego was able to put together a three-hole stretch during her round that she played in one under par.
“For Shelby to finish in 10th place on a day that she would tell you she didn’t play her best was really good to see,” said Coach Curtis Carlson. “Anytime you can play a stretch of holes in under par, it is really impressive. Probably more impressive is that her birdie came on the hardest par 4 on the course. Out of the 48 golfers who played there were no other birdies and only 3 pars.”
Also medaling for the Warriors was Hannah Polacek with a 107.
“Hannah was really steady today. She only had one par during her round but was able to limit the big numbers,” Carlson added. “Hannah has been hitting the ball really well on the range, so if she can get her ball striking to be a little more consistent during competition, she will be able to cut her scores down quickly.”
Hannah Brust and Maddie Rappl rounded out the team scoring with a 114 and 116. Anna Dobesh was right behind them with a 123. Polacek, Brust, and Rappl combined to cut 33 shots off their scores from last year’s tournament.
“Bay Hills can lead to some bad holes really quickly, and for the most part the girls were able to avoid posting big numbers. Hopefully they can continue to improve and build on their recent success,” Carlson stated.
The girls will be right back in action on Monday at the Blair Invitational.
Warrior golfers Hannah Polacek and Shelby Griego pose with their medals at the Sept. 8 Plattsmouth Tournament.
Both girls placed at the competition, and lead their team to a 5th place finish (out of 13 schools).

Warrior Girls take out Blair & Plattsmouth in Sept. 6 triangular
Blair Triangular - 9.6.16
The Warriors were back on the links on Tuesday at the Blair triangular, played at River Wilds Golf Course. The team was able to edge out Blair by 5 shots to take home the team title.
The key for the Warriors was a balanced scoring attack. Shelby Griego had a good day finishing tied for the medalist honors with a 49. Right behind her was Hannah Polacek (52), Hannah Brust (53), and Maddie Rappl (54). Also playing for the Warriors was Anna Dobesh with a 62.
“It was a great chance for the girls to play on the course they will play districts at. It was even better to have some success there. The greens were really rough since they had just aerated. We will get another chance to play the course in competition on Monday at the Blair Invitational,” said Coach Curtis Carlson.

Warrior Girls WIN @ Elmwood!
Elmwood-Murdock Quad - 9.1.16
The girls kicked off their last full month of the season at the Elmwood-Murdock quadrangular, played at Grandpa’s Woods.
The girls were able to bring home the team honors, shooting a 196 to beat Arlington by 19 shots.
Leading a balanced Warrior scoring day was Hannah Polacek with a 47. One shot behind was Maddie Rappl with a 48. Closely following behind were Shelby Griego (50) and Hannah Brust (51). Anna Dobesh finished with a 65.
“It is always good to win the team competition,” commented Coach Curtis Carlson. “The girls were able to cut 22 shots off their score from last year. That being said, we left a lot of shots out on the course because of our chipping and putting. If we would have just two-putted everything our team score could have been 15 shots lower. If we can clean up that along with our chipping we could shoot some really good scores.”

Seward Invitational – 8.26.16

Right behind her was fellow senior Hannah Brust. Brust finished with a 108 after shooting a 55 and a 53.
Sophomores Shelby Griego and Anna Dobesh both contributed to the team score as well. Griego finished with a 114 (59-55) and Anna a 115 (54-61). Maddie Rappl added a 120 for the Warriors.
“All five girls finished with career-best 18 hole scores today. That shows the growth they have made from last year!" said Coach Curtis Carlson. "Hannah Brust cut 36 shots off her score from last year. The amazing part about her score is that she just made some pretty significant swing changes on Wednesday. Hopefully the girls can continue to build off their scores from today.”
The girls are back at it Monday playing in a triangular at Fremont Country Club.

Sophomore Shelby Griego had the best nine hole score of the day for the Warriors with a 50 on the front side. She followed that up with a 66 to finish with a 116 for a career-best 18-hole score.
Also scoring for the Warriors were sophomore Anna Dobesh 133 and junior Maddie Rappl 139.
“Hannah continued her steady play today once again, leading the way for us," stated Coach Curtis Carlson. "Shelby had a three-hole stretch during her 50 that she played at even par. That was really exciting to see because it shows the potential of what is there.”
The girls are back in action on Friday at the Seward Invitational.

The team will be back at it tomorrow at the Beatrice Invitational.
