SEASON WRAP-UP:
The 2015 Wahoo Warrior softball team ended the season with a record of 14-17 and another trip to the State Softball Tournament!
The beginning of the season started out rocky for the Warriors, but they were able to stick with fundamentals and kept working hard to improve their hitting to turn the season around. The tough teams that they played early in the season paid off in the end.
This was the Warriors’ first time competing in class B throughout the season, and the girls competed very well. Although they finished 0-2 at State, they were in every game until the end.
The Warriors were lead on the offensive side of the ball by seniors Elise McIlhaney and Brittany Vech. McIlhaney finished with the top batting average of .341, and Vech finished with a .304.
On the defensive side of the ball senior Alexis Libal lead the way in the outfield. She had a very quick first step that lead to many outs for the Warriors. Junior Tiana Wilcox and sophomore Sarah Iversen played on the sides of Libal.
The middle infield was lead by senior Makeda Russ and sophomore Brianna Brabec. Those two paired up for one of the fastest middle infields in the state. Russ was also quick on the bases and lead the team in steals.
Junior Lexis Stuchlik and senior Brittany Vech held down the corners of the infield. Junior Carissa Koranda had the duties behind the plate for the Warriors. Junior Courtney Vanek and freshman Kylee Swanson shared the pitching duties this season.
The determination and perseverance this team showed throughout the season says a lot about the character of the individuals!
