SEASON WRAP-UP FROM HEAD COACH TRINA CHRISTEN:

The Wahoo Warrior softball team ended the 2018 season with a record of 18-11.

In regular season conference play they finished 6-2 against some very tough conference opponents. During the course of the season, the Warriors were a very strong hitting team.

The offense was led by senior Macy Homes, with a batting average of .483. She also broke the school record for most home runs in a single season with 10. Senior Mattie Pfeiffer was not far behind her, with an average of .400 and 6 home runs.

Senior Sydney Vanicek hit in the four hole for the Warriors, and ended with an average of .369. Senior Janisa Gronenthal also had a hot bat at the end of the season.

On the mound senior Kylee Swanson led the Warriors. She pitched 149 innings over the course of the season. She struck out 92 opponents, while only allowing 18 walks.

Seniors Jaci Schnakenberg and Katie Borchers were tough defenders in the outfield. They had some tough balls this season, and made some great catches to help lead us to victory!

Senior Karley Kaiser worked hard on the dirt at second base to make sure balls stayed in the infield. She made some outstanding diving plays that prevented the other team from scoring runs. Senior Leah Maass was an important key to this team on the base paths. Her quick feet and aggressiveness helped plate many runs.

Nine seniors led this Warrior team all season long. We will miss them greatly next season!

The Warriors fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 9-5 loss to Aquinas on Thursday.

Aquinas opened up scoring in the first inning. The Monarchs scored on a two-run home run and a single.

Kylee Swanson took the loss for Wahoo. She allowed 13 hits and nine runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking zero.

The Warriors socked one home run on the day. Janisa Gronenthal went deep in the second inning.

Wahoo tallied 12 hits in the game. Macy Homes, Sydney Vanicek, and Karley Kaiser each had multiple hits for the team. Homes went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Warriors in hits.

Thursday's game against Milford was a heartbreaker for the Warriors, as they lost the lead late in a 6-4 defeat. Milford was down 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning when an error scored two runs for Milford.

The Warriors lost despite out-hitting Milford nine to eight.

Wahoo took an early lead in the second inning when Kylee Swanson hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Warriors tied things up at one. Wahoo scored one run when Macy Homes singled.

Milford scored three runs in the sixth inning. Milford’s big inning was driven by two Eagle home runs.

Swanson took the loss the Warriors. She surrendered six runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.

Wahoo socked two home runs on the day. Janisa Gronenthal struck in the seventh inning. Swanson had a four bagger in the second inning.

Alyssa Luedtke led Wahoo Warriors Varsity with two hits in four at bats.

Kylee Swanson had all the right stuff on Thursday for the Warriors, allowing zero runs and besting Wilber-Clatonia by a score of 10-0.

Wahoo got things started in the first inning. Sydney Vanicek homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

The Warriors notched five runs in the second inning. Karley Kaiser, Katie Borchers, Alyssa Luedtke, and Macy Homes all drove in runs in the frame.

One bright spot for Wilber-Clatonia was a single by Lauren Maly in the second inning.

Swanson got the win. She surrendered zero runs on one hit over four innings, striking out one and walking zero.

Tia Kreshel took the loss for Wilber-Clatonia. She went three and a third innings, allowing ten runs on 12 hits and walking zero.

Wahoo hit one home run on the day. Vanicek had a long ball in the first inning.

The Warriors had 12 hits in the game. Luedtke, Janisa Gronenthal, and Homes all managed multiple hits for the team. Luedtke led Wahoo Warriors Varsity with three hits in three at bats.

Four hits from Janisa Gronenthal helped lead the way for the Warriors over Gross Catholic 11-2 on Thursday. Gronenthal singled in the second, singled in the third, singled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth.

Wahoo secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the sixth inning. The Warriors put the pressure on, lead by singles by Jaci Schnakenberg, Gronenthal, and Kylee Swanson, a walk by Mattie Pfeiffer, a triple by Alyssa Luedtke, and an error on a ball put in play by Katie Borchers.

Wahoo put up seven runs in the sixth inning. Luedtke, Pfeiffer, Schnakenberg, Gronenthal, Swanson, and Borchers each had RBIs in the frame.

Swanson was credited with the victory for the Warriors. She allowed six hits and two runs over six innings, striking out four and walking zero.

The Warriors had 17 hits in the game. Swanson, Gronenthal, Luedtke, Schnakenberg, and Pfeiffer all managed multiple hits. Gronenthal and Swanson each had four hits to lead the team.

Tuesday's game against Arlington was a heartbreaker for the Warriors, as they lost the lead late in a 3-2 defeat. The game was tied at two with Arlington batting in the bottom of the fifth when the Eagles singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Arlington pitchers struck out four, while Wahoo sat down seven.

In the first inning, Wahoo got their offense started. Sydney Vanicek drove in one when she singled.

Kylee Swanson took the loss for the Warriors. She surrendered three runs on four hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Wahoo High School hosted the 2018 Nebraska Capitol Conference Softball Tournament on Saturday, September 22, and finished in 3rd place.

The Warriors snagged a late lead and defeated Ashland-Greenwood 5-2 on Saturday. The game was tied at two with Wahoo batting in the bottom of the fifth when Mattie Pfeiffer hit a solo homer.

In the first inning, Ashland-Greenwood got their offense started when the Bluejays doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Wahoo tied things up at two. An error scored one run for the Warriors.

Kylee Swanson earned the win. She went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out five and walking zero.

The Warriors hit one home run on the day. Pfeiffer had a four bagger in the fifth inning.

Wahoo scattered eight hits in the game. Jaci Schnakenberg and Pfeiffer all managed multiple hits. Pfeiffer and Schnakenberg each collected two hits to lead the team. The Warriors were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Macy Homes had the most chances in the field with five.

An early lead helped the Wahoo Warriors defeat the Trojans 8-2 on Saturday. The Warriors scored on a home run by Mattie Pfeiffer in the first inning, a sacrifice fly by Kylee Swanson in the second inning, and a single by Alyssa Luedtke in the second inning.

Wahoo secured the victory thanks to five runs in the fifth inning. The Warrior offense in the inning came from singles by Karley Kaiser, Swanson, Luedtke, and Pfeiffer.

In the bottom of the first inning, Platteview tied things up at one when Alex Stoner singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

The Warriors pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second Swanson's sac fly scored one run and Luedtke singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The Warriors scored five runs in the fifth inning. Wahoo’s offense in the inning was led by Kaiser, Swanson, Luedtke, and Pfeiffer, all driving in runs in the frame.

Swanson was credited with the victory. She surrendered two runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out five.

Maggie Czyz took the loss for Platteview. She lasted four and a third innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs, while striking out two.

Wahoo smacked one home run on the day. Pfeiffer went deep in the first inning.

The Warriors collected 14 hits. Katie Borchers, Pfeiffer, Luedtke, and Macy Homes each managed multiple hits. Pfeiffer and Borchers each collected three hits to lead the team.

Both teams were strong on the rubber Tuesday, but the Warriors defeated Tekamah-Herman 3-2. Kylee Swanson allowed just six hits to Tekamah-Herman.

An early lead helped propel the Warriors to victory. Wahoo scored on a double by Swanson and a single by Alyssa Luedtke in the second inning.

The Warriors pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning, where Swanson doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and Luedtke singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Swanson was the winning pitcher. She allowed six hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Swanson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, the Warriors still held off Ashland-Greenwood for a 6-4 victory on Saturday. Ashland-Greenwood scored four runs in the sixth inning, but Wahoo still managed to pull out the victory.

Wahoo pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Sydney Vanicek hit a solo homer and Mattie Pfeiffer's sac fly scored one run .

Swanson was the winning pitcher for Wahoo. She went seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out six and walking one.

The Warriors socked one home run on the day. Vanicek put one out in the fourth inning.

Wahoo racked up eight hits. Jaci Schnakenberg, Alyssa Luedtke, and Janisa Gronenthal each collected two hits to lead the team. Wahoo was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Homes made the most plays with seven.

The Warriors defeated Yutan/Mead 9-0 on Thursday, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Morgan Oden struck out the last batter to finish off the game.

Wahoo secured the victory thanks to five runs in the third inning. Macy Homes, Jaci Schnakenberg, Kharissa Eddie, Janisa Gronenthal, and Mattie Pfeiffer all drove in runs in the frame.

The Warriors opened up scoring in the first inning. Schnakenberg singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

One bright spot for the Patriots was a single by in the third inning.

Kylee Swanson was the winning pitcher for the Warriors. She allowed four hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out three and walking zero. Oden threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Wahoo collected ten hits. Schnakenberg, Pfeiffer, Alyssa Luedtke, and Homes each collected multiple hits. Each had two hits to lead the team.

The Warriors watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-2 loss to Beatrice on Tuesday.

Wahoo struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Beatrice, giving up ten runs.

In the first inning, Beatrice got their offense started when they singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Beatrice scored three runs in the fourth inning.

Kylee Swanson took the loss for Wahoo. She allowed 12 hits and ten runs over five and a third innings, striking out one and walking one.

Wahoo launched one home run on the day. Macy Homes went for the long ball in the sixth inning.

Homes, Mattie Pfeiffer, Katie Borchers, and Swanson each managed one hit for the team.

The Warriors fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 9-4 loss to Lincoln East on Saturday.

Lincoln East opened up scoring in the first inning, when an error scored one run. The Spartans scored four runs in the second inning.

Kylee Swanson took the loss for Wahoo. She went six innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits, striking out three and walking one.

The Warriors tallied two home runs on the day. Janisa Gronenthal had a four bagger in the second inning. Macy Homes had a dinger in the fourth inning.

Homes went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

Monday's game against Cass County Central was a heartbreaker for the Warriors, as they lost the lead late in a 7-6 defeat. The game was tied at four with CCC batting in the bottom of the fourth when a Crush double on a 1-1 count scored one run.

The Warriors lost despite out-hitting Cass County Central ten to seven.

Wahoo got on the board in the first inning. Macy Homes singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Kylee Swanson took the loss for the Warriors. She surrendered four runs on five hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Morgan Oden started the game for Wahoo. She surrendered three runs on two hits over two and a third innings, striking out two.

The Warriors racked up ten hits on the day. Homes, Jaci Schnakenberg, and Alyssa Luedtke all managed multiple hits for the team. Homes went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

The Wahoo Warriors had no trouble on offense today, winning big over Fort Calhoun 9-1.

Wahoo fired up the offense in the first inning, with a Pioneer error scoring three runs.

Kylee Swanson got the win for the Warriors. She lasted five innings, allowing five hits and one run, while striking out five and walking one.

Wahoo had seven hits in the game. Sydney Vanicek and Karley Kaiser both managed multiple hits. Kaiser and Vanicek each collected two hits to lead the team. The Warriors did not commit a single error in the field. Macy Homes had the most chances in the field with five.

Kylee Swanson didn't allow a single run as the Warriors defeated Cass County Central 8-0 on Saturday. Swanson allowed just three hits.

The Warriors put up three runs in the fourth inning. Wahoo’s offense in the inning came from doubles by Mattie Pfeiffer and Alyssa Luedtke and a single by Swanson.

A double in the first inning was a positive for Cass County Central.

Swanson was on the rubber for the Warriors. She allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out one and walking zero.

The Warriors hit one home run on the day. Macy Homes had a dinger in the third inning.

Homes went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Wahoo in hits.

The Warriors built a five-run lead in the first inning and then held off Wisner-Pilger's charge for a 5-4 victory on Saturday.

Wisner-Pilger scored four runs in the fifth inning, but Wahoo still managed to pull out the victory.

Wahoo opened up scoring in the first inning with a double hit by Sydney Vanicek.

Morgan Oden got the start for the Warriors. She lasted seven innings, allowing 12 hits and four runs while striking out 12 and walking zero.

Wahoo racked up nine hits on the day. Jaci Schnakenberg and Vanicek all managed multiple hits for the team. Schnakenberg went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Wahoo in hits. The Warriors didn't commit a single error in the field. Catcher Janisa Gronenthal had 12 chances in the field, the most on the team.

Wisner-Pilger totaled 12 hits in the game.
