2020 SEASON RECORD: 23-11

SEASON WRAP-UP FROM HEAD COACH TRINA CHRISTEN:

The Wahoo Warrior Softball team ended the season with a record of 23-11.

In regular season conference play they finished 4-1, losing to a talented Beatrice team. The Warriors won the first-ever Trailblazer Conference Tournament, avenging their loss to Beatrice. The team also earned a trip to District finals, losing the final game of a tough three-game series.

Senior Aja Henderson and sophomores Harper Hancock and Autumn Iversen led this year’s offense for Wahoo. Henderson had a batting average of .431, and she also broke the single season home run record with 14 home runs. Hancock had an average of .418 and Autumn Iversen was not far behind with an average of .416.

Senior Kharissa Eddie showed great power throughout the season, and ended with 7 home runs and an average of .333. Senior Alyssa Luedtke ended the season with a batting average of .327, with 13 stolen bases. Freshman Sydney Smart sparked the Warriors at the end of the season with her hot bat. She ended the season with an impressive batting average of .469. Hitters 1-9 were very strong for the Warriors throughout the entire season.

Sophomores Jaiden Swanson and Autumn Iversen led the way in the circle for the Warriors. Swanson ended the season with 10 wins and 101 strikeouts, while Iversen finished with 8 wins and 79 strikeouts. Katelyn Urban lead the way behind the plate for the Warriors and did a great job keeping runners honest and where they needed to be. The infield corners were held strong by junior Kylee Kenning and senior Tessa Gatewood. Tessa was a great vocal leader for the team throughout the season.

The six seniors will be greatly missed!

Wahoo fell behind early and couldn't quite come back in an 8-4 loss to Crete on Friday. The Warriors made it interesting, though, leaving bases loaded as the final inning came to a close.

Crete scored on a single by Henning in the first inning, a home run by Mach in the second inning, and a home run by Coe in the second inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Crete tied things up at two. Henning singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Crete pulled away for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second Mach homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs, and Coe homered on a 1-2 count, scoring three runs.

Mach got the win for Crete, surrendering four runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out two.

Autumn Iversen took the loss for Wahoo. Iversen went six innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and striking out seven.

The Warriors smacked one home run on the day with Kharissa Eddie's dinger in the third inning.

Alyssa Luedtke went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Wahoo in hits. The Warriors were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Katelyn Urban made the most plays with seven.

Crete tallied 12 hits on the day.

Wahoo stole the lead late with a 5-run 5th inning for the 5-4 victory over Crete in Game 2. The bottom of the fifth surge started when Autumn Iversen doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.

Crete opened up scoring in the first inning, when Mach singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Iversen was credited with the victory for the Warriors. She went seven innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out two.

Mach took the loss for Crete, surrendering five runs on four hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out one.

Iversen, Kylee Kenning, Katelyn Urban, and Harper Hancock each managed one hit to lead the Warriors. Wahoo didn't commit a single error in the field. Hancock had the most chances in the field with four.

Crete racked up 11 hits in the game.

Wahoo stayed in it until the end, but Crete pulled away late in a 14-9 victory on Friday. The game was tied at nine with Crete batting in the bottom of the sixth when Henning doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

Despite the loss, the Warriors collected 12 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Crete had 14 hits on the way to victory.

Wahoo got things moving in the first inning when Kharissa Eddie doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

After Wahoo scored one run in the top of the third, Crete answered with one of their own. The Warriors scored when Becca Wotipka singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Crete then answered when Mach singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Wahoo notched three runs in the fifth inning, driven in by Wotipka, Katelyn Urban, and Aja Henderson.

Crete scored eight runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by Crete was led by Wendt, Mach, Henning, and Coe, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Steuer earned the win for Crete, allowing zero hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Jaiden Swanson took the loss for Wahoo, allowing three hits and two runs over one inning, walking zero.

Autumn Iversen started the game for the Warriors. She allowed 11 hits and 12 runs over five innings, striking out five. Mach started the game for Crete. She went four and a third innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits, striking out three and walking one

Crete hit two home runs on the day. Coe had a long ball in the sixth inning, and Mach went deep in the fourth inning.

The Warriors tallied 12 hits in the game. Wotipka, Harper Hancock, and Urban each managed multiple hits. Wotipka went 3-for-4 at the plate as Wahoo's leader in hits.

Crete racked up 14 hits in the game., with Henning leading the Cardinals with four hits in four at bats.

Warrior Softball takes runner-up in B-5 Subdistrict, falling to powerhouse Norris in final

The 2020 NSAA Softball Subdistrict B-5 was played on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5-6, at Norris High School.

Wahoo suffered a 9-4 loss to Norris on Tuesday in the B-5 subdistrict championship. Norris took the lead on a home run in the second inning.

Norris got things moving in the second inning when Collier hit a solo homer.

Wiggins got the start for Norris, surrendering four runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking zero.

Autumn Iversen was in the circle for Wahoo, surrendering nine runs on 11 hits over seven innings, striking out seven.

The Warriors launched two home runs on the day. Sidney Smart had a four-bagger in the sixth inning, and Aja Henderson had a dinger in the third inning.

Wahoo had seven hits in the game, lead by Henderson and Alyssa Luedtke, who each collected two hits.

Norris totaled 11 hits in the game.

Aja Henderson got busy on the basepaths on Tuesday, knocking four hits in Wahoo's 14-10 victory over Beatrice. Henderson homered in the first, singled in the first, singled in the third, and singled in the seventh.

Bats blistered as the Warriors collected 17 hits and Beatrice tallied 11 in the high-scoring game.

Wahoo opened up scoring in the first inning, with Henderson's solo homer.

Beatrice scored three runs in the fifth inning, on a single by Barnard.

Autumn Iversen earned the victory in the circle for Wahoo. Iversen surrendered eight runs on nine hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Jaiden Swanson threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Krzycki-Pangborn took the loss for Beatrice, going five and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking zero.

The Warriors launched three home runs on the day: Sidney Smart's dinger in the second inning, Kharissa Eddie's homer in the first inning, and Henderson's four-bagger in the first inning.

Wahoo tallied 17 hits on the day with Henderson, Eddie, Iversen, Harper Hancock, Katelyn Urban, and Smart each collecting multiple hits. Henderson lead with four hits in five at bats.

Beatrice had 11 hits in the game. Barnard went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead Beatrice in hits.

Facing a 17-18 defecit in the bottom of the seventh, a walk-off home run by Aja Henderson on a 0-1 count propelled Wahoo to a decisive, dramatic victory over Waverly, 19-18.

The Warriors were boosted by Kharissa Eddie, who went 4-for-5 at the plate (singled in the third, homered in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth).

Waverly captured the lead in the second inning, scoring two runs when Krumland homered.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Wahoo tied things up at 15 when Eddie singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

After Waverly scored three runs in the top of the third, the Warriors answered with three of their own. Waverly scored when Craddock singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, and Autumn Iversen threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Waverly. Wahoo then answered when Sidney Smart homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.

Wahoo scored five runs in the fourth inning, driven by a home run by Eddie and a double by Iversen.

Waverly scored six runs in the second inning. Tenopir, Krumland, Craddock, and Schulke all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Iversen was credited with the victory for the Warriors, surrendering 12 runs on ten hits over five and a third innings, striking out two.

Craddock took the loss for Waverly, surrendering six runs on eight hits over one and two-thirds innings, walking zero.

Jaiden Swanson started the game for Wahoo. Swanson went one and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking zero. Brinkman started the game for Waverly, going three and a third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one.

Wahoo launched three home runs on the day. Smart had a long ball in the third inning, Eddie went yard in the fourth inning, and Henderson had a homer in the seventh inning.

The Wariors tallied 23 hits on the day. Smart, Iversen, Eddie, Henderson, Abbey Borchers, Becca Wotipka, and Alyssa Luedtke all managed multiple hits. Smart went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead in hits.

Waverly collected 18 hits on the day.

Monday's game against Beatrice was a heartbreaker for Wahoo, as they were defeated 2-8. The game was tied at two with Beatrice batting in the top of the fifth when Schwisow homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

The Warriors struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Beatrice, giving up eight runs.

In the second inning, Beatrice got their offense started with a solo homer by Krzycki-Pangborn.

In the top of the third inning, Beatrice tied things up at two when Schwisow was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.

Beatrice scored four runs in the sixth inning. Orange batters contributing to the big inning included Barnard and Henning, who all drove in runs.

Krzycki-Pangborn pitched Beatrice to victory. She went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one.

Autumn Iversen took the loss for Wahoo, lasting five and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and six runs.

The Warriors tallied one home run on the day. Sidney Smart went deep in the second inning.

Wahoo had six hits in the game. Smart and Alyssa Luedtke each managed two hits to lead the Warriors.

Barnard led Beatrice with two hits in four at bats.

Autumn Iversen shut down Gross Catholic, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Wahoo to an 8-0 victory on Thursday.

Aja Henderson led the Warriors to victory by driving in four runs. Henderson went 3-for-4 at the plate, and drove in runs on a grand slam in the second.

One bright spot for Gross Catholic was a double by Buscher in the second inning.

Iversen pitched Wahoo to victory, allowing one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Zoucha took the loss for Gross Catholic. She lasted two innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out two.

The Warriors racked up 11 hits on the day, lead by Iversen and Henderson, who each collected three hits.

Buscher led Gross Catholic with one hit in two at bats.

Wahoo's effort to come back from down four runs in the seventh inning came up just short, as they fell 5-4 to Arlington on Tuesday.

The Warriors couldn't keep up with Arlington early in the game.

The Eagles opened up scoring in the first inning, when Cadie Robinson homered on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs.

Wahoo scored four runs in the seventh inning. The big inning was thanks to a home run by Harper Hancock and a fielder's choice by Kharissa Eddie.

Hailey Brenn was on the rubber for Arlington. She surrendered four runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out two.

Jaiden Swanson was in the circle for the Warriors. Swanson lasted four innings, allowing four hits and four runs, while striking out four and walking zero. Autumn Iversen threw two innings in relief.

Wahoo launched one home run on the day. Hancock went for the long ball in the seventh inning.

Hancock went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Warriors in hits.

Paige Kraemer led Arlington with two hits in three at bats.

Luedtke and Jaiden Swanson each had one hit to lead the Warriors. They were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Harper Hancock made the most plays with five.

Norris collected ten hits.

Wahoo took the victory and conference championship over the #1 seed Beatrice on Saturday, with a final of 5-1.

It came down to the wire on Saturday, with Wahoo taking victory on a dramatic walk-off error in the late innings that sealed their victory over Platteview. The game was tied at four with the Warriors batting in the bottom of the sixth, when an error scored one run for Wahoo.

Platteview scored three runs in the first inning, but Wahoo still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Platteview came thanks to a single by Trumble and a groundout by Jeffrey.

After Platteview scored one run in the top of the fourth, the Warriors answered with one of their own. Platteview scored when Stoner singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Wahoo then answered when Sidney Smart singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Autumn Iversen earned the victory on the rubber for Wahoo, lasting five innings, allowing four hits and one run, while striking out five.

Autumn Iversen would not be denied at the plate on Thursday, picking up four hits and leading Wahoo to an 8-4 win over Platteview. Iversen singled in the first, doubled in the third, homered in the fifth, and singled in the seventh.

The Warriors fired up the offense in the first inning, when Iversen singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Wahoo pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning: Aja Henderson hit a solo homer, Iversen doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

Wahoo snatched the lead late in the game in a 10-7 victory over Grand Island Central Catholic on Tuesday. The game was tied at six with the Warriors batting in the top of the sixth when Aja Henderson singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Wahoo and GICC each collected eight hits in the high-scoring affair.

GICC got things moving in the first inning, when a Warrior error scored one run for the Crusaders.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, GICC tied things up at six when Autumn Iversen threw a wild pitch, allowing one run across the plate for the Crusaders.

Iversen was on the rubber for Wahoo, allowing eight hits and six runs over six innings, striking out four.

Alican O'Neil toed the rubber for Grand Island Central Catholic. She went four and a third innings, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out four. Andrea Palma threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Harper Hancock and Henderson each managed two hits to lead the Warriors.

Wahoo defeated York 10-8 in a back-and-forth affair on Tuesday. The game was tied at eight with Wahoo batting in the top of the fifth when Alyssa Luedtke singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

There was plenty of action on the basepaths as the Warriors collected 12 hits, and York had nine.

Wahoo opened up scoring in the first inning, when a Kharissa Eddie single scored one run.

After Wahoo scored two runs in the top of the fourth, York answered with two of their own. The Warriors scored when Harper Hancock singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs. York then answered when Rowe singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, and Libich singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

York scored four runs in the second inning. Hoblyn, Peterson, and Combs powered the big inning with RBIs.

Wahoo watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 4-0 loss to Bennington on Saturday. Bennington scored on a single by Brown in the first inning, a single by Colvert in the second inning, and a single by Sedlack in the second inning.

One bright spot for the Warriors was a single by Kharissa Eddie in the second inning.

Lowther earned the victory on the rubber for Bennington. She lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and zero runs, while striking out five and walking zero.

Wahoo weathered a scare by Ralston in the first inning, but they still won 8-5 on Thursday. Ralston scored its three first-inning runs on a 0-1 count home run by Alex Johnson.

The Warriors pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning, on a 2-2 count grand slam by Autumn Iversen!

Wahoo put up seven runs in the third on its way to a 9-3 victory over Douglas County West/Concordia on Tuesday. Warrior batters contributing to the big inning included Katelyn Urban, Jaiden Swanson, and Aja Henderson, all driving in runs in the inning. Urban was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, Swanson tripled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, and Henderson homered on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

After Douglas County West/Concordia scored one run in the top of the fifth, Wahoo answered with one of their own. The Falcons scored when K. Lewis hit a solo homer, and Wahoo answered when Swanson's sac fly scored one run.

In the first inning, Tekamah-Herman got their offense started. Maggie Sheets grounded out, scoring one run.

The Warriors pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning: Autumn Iversen tripled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Kharissa Eddie doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, and Harper Hancock singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Wahoo scored five runs in the fifth inning, with an offensive onslaught coming from singles by Sidney Smart and Alyssa Luedtke, a sac fly by Iversen, and a groundout by Sara Lindgren.

Iversen was on the rubber for the Warriors. She surrendered one run on two hits over five innings, striking out three.

Kharissa Eddie drove in four runners in the loss. Eddie drove in runs on a single in the third, a groundout in the fourth, and a home run in the seventh.

Schwisow was the winning pitcher for Beatrice. She lasted four innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out one.

Iversen took the loss for Wahoo. She went five and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 runs on 11 hits, and striking out three.

Krzycki-Pangborn started the game for Beatrice. She went three innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking zero. Jaiden Swanson started the game for the Warriors, allowing five hits and six runs over one-third of an inning, walking one.

The Warriors racked up 16 hits on the day. Eddie, Iversen, Harper Hancock, Katelyn Urban, Kylee Kenning, and Sidney Smart each collected multiple hits, with Eddie leading with three hits in five at bats.

Wahoo seized victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off at the end of the game to topple Auburn. The game was tied at six with Wahoo batting in the bottom of the sixth when Katelyn Urban was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.

Bats blistered as the Warriors collected eight hits and Auburn tallied five in the high-scoring game.

In the first inning, Auburn got their offense started. Kylie Allen drove in two when she homered.

Wahoo scored four runs in the third inning. The rally was led by a walk by Kharissa Eddie, a groundout by Kylee Kenning, and an error on a ball put in play by Urban.

Auburn scored three runs in the second inning. Auburn offense in the inning was led by Leah Grant and Jaeleigh Darnell, all driving in runs in the frame.

Autumn Iversen was credited with the victory for the Warriors. She lasted four innings, allowing three hits and one run, while striking out five and walking zero.

The Warriors saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. Hancock and Kharissa Eddie each collected multiple hits, and Hancock led Wahoo with three hits in three at bats. Wahoo was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.

The Wahoo Warriors jumped out to an early lead over NEN and took home an 11-5 victory on Saturday to open the Freeman Tourney. Wahoo scored on a home run by Aja Henderson and a single by Harper Hancock in the first inning.

NEN scored three runs in the fourth inning, but the Warriors still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for NEN came thanks to a single by #8 and a home run by Schuster.

After NEN scored three runs in the top of the fourth, Wahoo answered with three of their own. NEN scored when Schuster homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs, and #8 singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Wahoo then answered when Hancock doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

The Warriors scored three runs in the fifth inning, with offensive firepower led by Alyssa Luedtke and Kylee Kenning, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Jaiden Swanson got the win for Wahoo. She lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, while striking out two and walking zero. Autumn Iversen threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Iversen recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

Stuhr took the loss for NEN. She went three innings, allowing five runs on six hits.

Wahoo tallied one home run on the day, with Henderson going deep in the first inning.

The Warriors totaled 14 hits. Iversen, Henderson, Hancock, and Kenning each managed multiple hits. Henderson and Iversen were the leaders with three hits each.

NEN totaled nine hits in the game, with multiple hits from Timm and Anderson.

Aja Henderson opened the season with a solo home run on the game's first pitch!

The Warriors nabbed the lead late in the game in a 14-5 victory over Plattsmouth. The game was tied at four with Wahoo batting in the top of the sixth, when Autumn Iversen singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Kharissa Eddie led Wahoo to victory by driving in four runs. She went 2-for-5 at the plate. Eddie drove in runs on a groundout in the first, a home run in the sixth, and a double in the seventh.

The Warriors put up six runs in the seventh inning, with an offense led by Katelyn Urban, Alyssa Luedtke, Iversen, Eddie, and Kylee Kenning, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Iversen earned the victory on the rubber. She went two and a third innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out three.

Jaiden Swanson started the game for Wahoo. She surrendered four runs on four hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one.

Wahoo smacked three home runs on the day: Henderson's long ball in the first, Eddie's dinger in the sixth, and Urban's homer in the seventh inning.

The Warriors had 19 hits in the game. Kenning, Luedtke, Iversen, Harper Hancock, Eddie, and Henderson all had multiple hits. Kenning led Wahoo with four hits in five at bats.
