COMMENTS:
Our girls really showed a lot of heart and competitive spirit at the Tiger/Cadet Invite in earning their second straight meet title. Even though we didn’t win as many events, our depth was the key to edging out Arlington, the defending NCC conference champions, 119-111 for the team title.
Mattie Murren really stepped up her individual performances, setting personal bests in the triple jump and 800m run, which will be one of the best times in Class B for the season.
Erin Curran, slowed by illness, was still the dominant runner in the 1600m and 3200m and provided a gutsy leg of the 1600m relay. Erin continues to establish herself as one of the dominant runners in Class B and continues to push herself to improve each and every meet.
Emily Brodahl and Katie Sloup provided us with a solid 1-2 punch in the sprints and 400m relay. Kali Pfeiffer is starting to hit her stride in the throws, placing in both shot and discus. Kylie Krecklow pushed herself to the limit in the 3200m run, smashing her previous personal best of 15:12, with a scorching 13:39.
Amber Henkel, Morgan Hancock, and Haley Sloup are developing into a hurdling trio, with all three scoring in the 100m hurdles. Haley also was a runner up in the 300m hurdles and was a crucial late addition to our 1600m relay and ran a 66 for her first attempt at the 400m, which is tremendous.
Morgan Hancock led the freshmen charge in the 400m, along with Erin Walker. Both turned in tremendous performances even though they were slowed by illness and injury. Erin was ill but still managed to run well in the 1600m, 400m, and relays. Morgan is our “hammer” for the 1600m relay but due to a hip injury, I held her out of the relay and she was extremely mad about being held out. She was willing to sacrifice herself and fight through the pain to try and help us win the meet. That is how unselfish our team is and why we are having such a great start to our season. Using our veterans as their guide, our freshmen class has really set the competitive bar high for this year’s team, and refuse to back down from a challenge. I have never been more proud of a team than I was at this meet.
