COMMENTS:
The girls had a tremendous day of competition at Districts. We were lucky enough to qualify five athletes for State in five different events and we had many more girls who had personal best performances throughout the day. I could not have been more proud of the effort that our girls gave throughout the meet.
Sam Polivka started out the state qualifiers with a second place performance in the high jump, with a personal best leap of 5’0”. Sam added to her district medal collection by placing fourth in the triple and long jump, as well, just missing qualifying for State in both events.
The 3200m relay, consisting of Erin Curran, Erin Walker, Morgan Hancock, and Mattie Murren, set the tone for all of the running events by placing second with a time of 9:42.4, establishing a new school record for Wahoo High School by eight seconds. Their time currently ranks second in Class B, behind the district champion Bishop Neumann by 3 seconds!
Erin Curran continued her run to state by finishing second in the 1600m with a time of 5:24, and third in the 3200m run with a time of 11:44. Mattie Murran rallied from behind in the 800m to secure a spot at Burke stadium with a personal best time of 2:24.
The 400m relay team, consisting of Amber Henkel, Katie Sloup, Morgan Hancock, and Emily Brodahl, overcame having to run in the first heat at Districts to place fourth, with a season best time of 52.7. Erin Walker was able to make a late surge in the 1600m run to place sixth in the event with a time of 5:48. Amber Henkel finished off her stellar career at Wahoo High School with a personal best 16.9 in the 100m hurdles, placing sixth.
