COMMENTS:
Even though the meet had to be rescheduled, due to weather, and several teams were unable to attend, this was one of the most competitive meets that we will have all season, with many of the state leaders in their respective events here at Wahoo.
I felt that our girls did a great job of rising to the occasion, with several personal bests being recorded in the individual and relay events. Our main goal was to compete well against our conference opponents, Fort Calhoun and Bennington, which we were able to defeat in team scoring race. Our relays were also able to compete head-to-head against each school, which provided added motivation going into next weekend’s conference meet.
Individually, Erin Curran provided the main scoring punch with victories in the 3200m (11:50) and 1600m (5:26), and helping the 1600m relay to a season’s best 4:22. But one of the most impressive performances came from Erin Walker, who ran a personal best split of 2:31 in the 3200m relay, a personal best 63.1 for the 1600m relay, and a personal best 5:54 in the 1600m run to round out the day. Mattie Murren ran an amazing come-from-behind anchor leg of the 1600m relay to secure second place and finished 3rd in the triple jump (32’) and 4th in the 800m, as well.
Emily Brodahl continues to shine in the sprints with a personal best in the 100m (13.28). Hailey Sloup continued to improve her time in the 300m hurdles, recording a personal best 52.14, which is the second best in the NCC conference this season. Kali Pfeiffer continues to move up the charts, placing 4th in both the shot put (33’5”) and discus (97’1”) to lead the throwers. Sam Polivka made her return debut from a knee injury to place 6th in the long jump (14’6”). Tierney Gensler, Katie Sloup, Morgan Hancock, and Emily Brodahl recorded an impressive 2nd place finish in the 400m relay and Jessica Barry and Mahala Egr continued to improve their times in the 3200m relay.
