The Wahoo Girls Track team traveled to Plattsmouth on Thursday, May 13, 2010 for the B-2 District track meet. The Warriors capped off a season with their best performance of the year. The Warriors finished runner-up at the District meet, in a tie with Plattsmouth.

“I am extremely proud of how all of the girls performed at Districts and how they rose to the challenge, yet again, at Districts. I was pleased that we were able to qualify eight girls for the State Track meet and to win all three relays at Districts was a tremendous accomplishment for the girls and showed how strong the competitive fire burns within them. Congratulations to all of the state qualifiers!” Coach Steve Shannon commented.
Boys
The Wahoo Boys finished 6th at Districts on Thursday with 42 points. Overall the boys competed very well with 9 PR’s on the day. The meet’s highlights would include Sean Lindgren throwing the discus 149 feet, earning a first place and qualifying for State in that event. Greg Milliken had a busy day qualifying for the State Track Meet in the Long Jump with an attempt of 21’4.5”, placing second, and in the 100 Meter Dash running 11.4, earning a fourth place. Jake Barry rounded out the boys' field that will compete next weekend at the State Track Meet by getting third in 800 M Run with a time of 2:02. The 3200 M Relay also qualified with a time of 8:41.3.

2010 Arlington Invitational (May 7, 2010)
Girls
The Wahoo girls traveled to Arlington on Friday, May 7, 2010 for the Arlington Invite. Mother Nature and the Eagles throwers weren’t so kind on this day. With sustained 25 MPH winds and gusts up to 40 MPH and the Warriors down a staggering 48 points after the throws, Wahoo rose up again to the challenge and pushed Arlington to the brink at their home invite. With Districts next week, the Warriors focused on quality, not quantity for individual events, but the Warriors made every one count, finishing in the runner up spot in the team race.

“Even though it was an extremely windy day, the girls did an outstanding job of competing throughout the day. We had some amazing performances by Morgan Hancock in the long jump breaking the 17’ barrier and the 400m relay, composed of Sadie Murren, Morgan Hancock, Mattie Murren, and Emily Brodahl, which broke the meet record with a time of 52.3,” stated Coach Steve Shannon.
Boys
Very windy conditions made it a difficult day for some of the Wahoo Track athletes at Arlington on Friday. The team finished with 2nd with 87 points, just behind Bennington with 92 points. “Ours girls did a great job of competing throughout the day and really made a tremendous push to overcome the 42-point deficit we encountered after the throws,” said Coach Steve Shannon. “We were able to trim the lead to single digits, which showed a lot of heart and determination for our girls to be able to come together and make a charge at the title. It was a beautiful day that was made even better by watching how hard the girls fought for one another. It was great to see us finishing on a high note, winning both the 400m and 1600m relays to cap the day off.”
Boys
The Wahoo Boys Track team had another spectacular day at the track on Saturday. They scored 91 points behind Syracuse, earning the 2010 Conference Runner-Up. There were 15 Personal Records (PR’s) or Meet Goals (MG’s) met on the day. The individual performances are highlighted below.

The Wahoo girls traveled to North Bend on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 for the North Bend Invite. The Warriors used the meet to allow our athletes to try out new events to get ready for the conference meet, which is this upcoming Saturday at Ashland. The Wahoo girls finished fourth in the team race.

“The girls really did a great job of stepping up in some new events and performing well at the North Bend Invite. We were able to take some of our middle distance runners and move them down into the sprint events to work on their turnover and got some great results from them. That allowed us to run some of our younger runners in those events, creating more depth as we enter the final third of the season,” commented Coach Steve Shannon.
Boys
The Wahoo Boys Track team had another productive day on the track at the North Bend Invitational with some good individual performances. The Warrior Track teams set 12 PR’s (Personal Records) or met a Coach’s Goals, which was a great day for this late in the season. As a team Wahoo finished 5th with 59 points. “We continued to have girls step up and compete well during the meet and break personal records at Schuyler. We will pull back the reigns and try to get some much needed rest and recovery heading into the conference meet at Ashland next Saturday,” commented Coach Steve Shannon. “We have a few key athletes that have been battling injuries and illness the past few weeks that we will need healthy to make a run for the conference title. We will use the North Bend meet on Tuesday to give some of our younger athletes an opportunity to earn some much needed experience in a varsity meet."
Boys
Wahoo had another productive day on the track Thursday. The boys track team finished 3rd with 59 points. The Warriors logged 13 PR’s (Personal Records) on the day. A couple of noteworthy efforts were Jake Barry running a great race in the open 800 M run, running a 8:03.9, placing 2nd, and Justin Lewandowski looking like his old self in the hurdle races: 1st in the 110 M High Hurdles and 4th in the 300 M Intermediate Hurdles, posting season best times in both. The Wahoo girls and boys hosted the first Wahoo Junior Varsity Track Invite on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. With only eight girls participating in the meet, the Warriors were able to show tremendous pride and competitiveness, finishing second in the team scoring against their competitors.

“I could not have been more proud of how well the girls competed today with the numbers that we had. Everyone contributed their best efforts and was unselfish throughout the day,” said Coach Steve Shannon. “Individually, Ali Norris had a tremendous day, winning the high jump, 100m dash, and as a member of the 3200m relay. Gaddy Zeleny and Anmarie Schirmer also placed in the top three in several events throughout the day, giving us the boost we needed.”

The Wahoo JV boys had a tremendous opportunity to show their stuff at the 1st Wahoo Warrior Junior Varsity Invite. The Warrior JV track team seized those opportunities to achieve 20 Personal Records for the day. The boys had a great afternoon and finished 3rd with 106 points.

Overall, it was a great day to be a Warrior!”
Boys
The Wahoo Boys Track team had to overcome a windy day in Milford to put forth some great individual efforts on Tuesday. There were 14 PR’s for the Milford Invite for the Boys Track team. Some impressive performances were Sean Lindgren winning the shot put and discus. Lindgren is currently just 4 feet off of the school record in the discus and hopes to get that mark by the end of the season. Jake Barry also had a great day running in the 3200 M Relay that finished 2nd and finishing 2nd in the 800 M run. Greg Milliken had a very good day as well. Milliken finished 2nd in the long jump, just shy of the school record in that event, and tied the school record in the 100 M dash with a 10.9 run for a 3rd place finish. Other individual efforts worth noting are Sam Cook in the 1600 M run, Dyllon Nelson in the shot put and discus, and Brock Partridge in the discus, as well. All these guys PR’d in their events.
As a team Wahoo finished in 4th place with 69 points on the day.

The Wahoo Girls Track team competed at the Tiger/Cadet Track Invitational on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at West Point. Although Mother Nature decided to bring spring showers, along with 20 MPH winds and cold and Wahoo missing some key athletes due to injury, the Warriors were more than up to the challenge going toe to toe with conference foe Arlington and bringing home the runner up trophy.

“Although the weather and injuries played a major factor in the meet, the girls did an outstanding job of competing throughout the day, with five victories and numerous personal bests and coaches goals throughout the day,” commented Coach Steve Shannon. “I was particularly impressed with the dominance of our 400m and 1600m relays to finish out the meet. I was extremely proud of efforts and look forward to even more improvement throughout the season!”
Boys:
The Wahoo Boys Track team found a way to finish 2nd at the Cadet-Tiger Invitational. It was a cold, windy, and rainy day at West Point, with 12 teams competing at the invite. Wahoo finished with 71 team points, second to Logan View who finished with 97 points. A few of the highlights of the day included the gutsy performance of Jake Barry, who competed in the 3200 M relay (2nd), 800 M (2nd), and the 1600 M relay (5th). Barry competed very well despite the weather conditions that made it very difficult to break personal records (PR). Sean Lindgren also had a fine day in the throws, placing in the shot put (5th) and discus (1st). In the sprints, Jake Subbert and Greg Milliken each had great days. Milliken placed in the long jump (1st), 100 M (1st), and 400 M relay (1st). While Jake Subbert placed in the 100 M (4th), 200 M (3rd), 400 M relay (1st) and the 1600 M relay (5th). Rounding out the scoring was Sam Cook in the 3200 M with a 6th place finish. All in all it was good day on the track with the athletes competing very well in difficult conditions.

Girls:
The Wahoo Girls Track team competed on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Wahoo Quadrangular. The meet consisted of teams from David City, Malcolm, and Raymond Central. With Wahoo at full force after the return of the track athletes from the Washington DC Close Up trip, the Warriors were able to flex their muscle for their first meet victory of the season. The girls team scores were Wahoo – 115, David City – 47, Raymond Central – 42, and Malcolm - 34.
“The girls showed tremendous heart and competed at a high level, showing off their hard work on the track and in the fitness center, to be able to hit the times and marks they did this early in the season," commented Coach Steve Shannon. Boys Highlights from Doane:
The Wahoo Boys Track team had a very productive day at the Doane Indoor Invite. The athletes competed well during a very competitive track meet. As a team, the Wahoo boys finished tied with Ralston for 7th place out of 18 teams. The Warriors also were able to set 17 Personal Best records for the day.
