Wahoo finished its season falling short with their efforts versus Omaha Roncalli in the first round of the State Playoffs. Wahoo finished the season with a 6-3 record.
The Warriors scored first when Tyler Brunsting scored on a broken play from 16 yards out with 4:35 left in the 1st quarter. Ethan Harders then added to the lead with 9:17 left in the 2nd quarter with a 25-yard field goal. Roncalli then answered with a score of their own with a 1-yard TD run with 1:33 left in the 1st half. Wahoo was able to get inside the 5-yard line before the end of the half, but was turned away when Roncalli intercepted a pass in the end zone.
Launch the media gallery 2 playerRoncalli came out the 2nd half with all the momentum by scoring twice in the on a 39-yard run and 14-yard run. Wahoo wasn’t able to find the end zone until the 4th quarter when Tyler Brunsting hit Taylor Murren on a 80-yard TD pass. That brought the Warriors within 3 with 11:12 left in the 4th quarter.
Roncalli then answered the call and scored with 2:18 left in the 4th quarter on a 4 yard TD run. Wahoo then went to their 2-minute offense, and Brunsting was picked off for Roncalli’s final score with a 28-yard interception return for a TD. Wahoo then successfully got their 2-minute offense rolling, scoring in less than 1 minute when Brunsting scrambled for a 14-yard TD run.
The following onside kick was unsuccessful and the Warriors were unable to get the ball back.
Defensively, Cole Barry lead the Warriors with 15 tackles, Layne Moore with 14 tackles, Sean Lindgren with 10 tackles. Taylor Murren had the lone interception for Wahoo and Jacob Anderson had the only fumble recovery.
Offensively, Wahoo was lead by Layne Moore on the ground with 23 carries for 111 yards. Tyler Brunsting threw the ball for 178 yards while going 8 for 17 with 3 interceptions. Taylor Murren lead all receivers with 3 catches for 110 yards and Garett Bowers had 3 catches for 47 yards.
The Wahoo Warrior Coaching Staff would like to thank the Seniors and the rest of the team for a great season. The players did an excellent job of working hard and giving great effort all season long.

Wahoo continued its winning ways on Friday night with a 28-0 win over Raymond Central. The Warriors continued their string of shut outs by keeping the Mustangs out of the end zone and only allowing 67 yards of offense in 38 plays.
Wahoo struggled to get the offense going in the muddy field conditions. The Warrior Offense hurt itself all night with critical penalties on 3rd and 4th downs, killing several drives. They only accumulated 213 yards of total offense.
The Warriors were led on the ground by Layne Moore (74 yards) and Tyler Brunsting (47 yards). Wahoo’s receivers, Taylor Murren and Justin Lewandowski, would catch some critical balls on 3rd and 4th down to keep a couple drives alive.
Brunsting scored first with a 2-yard sneak with 11:56 left in the 2nd quarter. Moore then found the end zone after the Warriors recovered the onside kick following their first score. Moore’s run came from 2 yards out over the left side. Wahoo took a 14-0 lead into halftime.
Wahoo continued to control the game in the 2nd half. Josh Williams scored on a 2-yard run off the left side with 3:19 left in the 3rd quarter. The Warrior defense then stepped up when Lucas McAtee scored on a 43-yard interception return.
Wahoo’s only score in the 4th quarter came off a Team Safety. This occurred when the Raymond Central punter tried to recover a bad snap and his knee hit the ground in the end-zone.
Wahoo’s defense was led by McAtee with 8 tackles and an interception for a TD. Corey Davis also had 5 tackles (1 TFL), and Ben Pokorny had 4 tackles (2 sacks). Sean Lindgren, Garett Bowers, and Ethan Brock all had interceptions on the evening.
Wahoo will host Omaha Roncalli for the 1st Round of the Playoffs on Thursday, October 30, in Wahoo (7:00 p.m. kick-off).

Wahoo made short work of Milford beating the Eagles 49-0 on a chilly October evening.
The Warrior offense rolled up 377 yards of total offense with 327 of those on the ground. The offensive line did a tremendous job of controlling the line of scrimmage to allow for that many yards rushing.
Tyler Brunsting led Wahoo with 102 yards rushing and 1 TD. Brunsting also passed for 61 yards on 3 passes, with all of those being TD passes. Brunsting’s first pass was to Justin Lewandowski with 9:28 left in the 1st quarter. Chris Ludi then found the end zone with 1:09 left in the 1st quarter on a 9-yard TD run. Wahoo led 14-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Garett Bowers accounted for the third score when he caught a tipped ball in the back of the end zone for an 11-yard TD reception with 8:08 left in the 2nd quarter. Taylor Murren had the longest reception on the evening with a 41-yard TD catch from Tyler Brunsting with 6:02 left in the 2nd quarter. Cole Barry then capped the scoring in the first half with a 51-yard interception return for a TD with 3:21 left in the 2nd quarter. Barry has been playing real well in pass defense the last two weeks finding four interceptions in that time span. Wahoo took a 35-0 lead into half time.
Starting the second half, Brunsting scored on a 41-yard run with 7:39 left in the 3rd quarter. Milford was able to keep the ball for the rest of the 3rd quarter with the running clock in effect. Greg Milliken then finished the scoring for the Warriors with a 53-yard TD run.
Defensively, the Warriors were able to keep Milford out of the end zone, posting the second straight shut out in as many weeks. Barry led all defensive players with 12 tackles (1 TFL, 1 Sack,) and 1 Interception return for a TD. Fellow Linebackers Lucas McAtee had 11 tackles and Corey Davis had 10 tackles (1 sack) and 1 fumble recovery. The Warrior Defensive Line controlled the line of scrimmage, as these linebackers were free to roam the field.
Wahoo will finish up their Regular Season by traveling to Raymond Central next Friday, October 24.

Wahoo flexed their offensive and defensive muscles on Friday night (October 10) versus the Ashland-Greenwood Blue Jays.
Offensively, the Warriors racked up 455 yards of offense, with 355 on the ground and 120 in the air. The defense played its best game to date by only allowing 71 total yards, while shutting out the Blue Jays.
Wahoo’s first score came with 28 seconds left in the 1st quarter when Layne Moore ran in an option play off the left side from 28 yards. Ethan Harders capped a drive with a 20-yard field goal with 6:31 left in the 2nd quarter. Sean Lindgren then led the Warriors on a two-minute drill to add their third score in the first half. Moore finished that drive with a 4-yard run with 23 seconds left in the 2nd quarter. Wahoo lead 17-0 at the half.
Wahoo picked up where they left off in the 3rd quarter when Taylor Murren caught a 20-yard TD pass from Lindgren. The Warriors did not find the end zone again until a fake punt was called as the first play in the 4th quarter. Lindgren ran the fake in from 49 yards out. Wahoo added one more score later in the 4th when Trenton Raymond ran a toss play off the right side in from 7 yards out.
Wahoo’s defense was lead by Ben Pokorny, who had 9 tackles (1 TFL, 3 Sacks), and Cole Barry with 6 tackles and 3 Interceptions. Casey Nice had 6 tackles and Christian Hohl had 5 tackles (1 TFL).
Offensively, the Warriors were led by Moore, who had 18 carries for 117 yards. Other leading rushers were Lindgren with 92 yards rushing and Greg Milliken with 60 yards rushing. The receivers were led by Garett Bowers, who had 3 catches for 62 yards, and Murren with 3 receptions for 35 yards and 1 TD. Justin Lewandowski also had 2 catches for 23 yards. Sean Lindgren ended up throwing 13 times with 8 receptions for 107 yards.
Wahoo will host Milford next Friday (10/17) for Senior Night.

The Warriors jumped out to a fast start against Bishop Neumann, but didn’t have enough to hang on in the end.
Wahoo lead 21-0 half way through the 2nd quarter due to a dominant running game and Layne Moore breaking several long runs to give the Warriors a lead. Bishop Neumann answered in the 2nd quarter with their only score of the half. The Cavaliers were threatening a score late in the 2nd quarter, but they were turned away by the Warrior defense.
In the 3rd quarter Bishop Neumann seized the momentum by adding two scores and pulling within two points (21-19). Wahoo then finally found the end zone when Taylor Murren ran one in from 7 yards off the left side with 8:38 left in the 4th quarter.
Neumann then scored on a 12-yard pass and converted the 2-point conversion with 4:44 left in the game. Bishop Neumann threatened to score again in the final minutes, but was stopped when Corey Davis recovered a fumble.
In Overtime, Wahoo was unable to score on four plays from the ground, finishing on the 6-inch line. Bishop Neumann scored in 2 plays on a 7-yd QB scramble off the right side.
Wahoo is now 3-2 and will travel to Ashland next Friday to play district foe, Ashland-Greenwood Blue Jays.
Warriors Overcome Sluggish Start to Upset Fairbury Jeffs

It took the Warriors the better part of the 1st half to shake off the effects of the long bus trip to Fairbury. Wahoo did manage to score first on a 28-yard TD run by Tyler Brunsting with 7:12 in the 1st Quarter. The PAT was blocked and the Warriors led 6-0. Fairbury answered with 17 points of their own in the 1st quarter, scoring on 2 big plays (46 yard pass and a 40 yard run) and a 37 yard FG.
Wahoo started to make some plays on defense in the 2nd quarter and reversed the momentum of the game, when Garett Bower stripped and recovered the ball after a long Fairbury reception. Bowers led the defense with 10 tackles (1 TFL), and the fumble recovery. Wahoo went back to work on offense with Layne Moore adding 2 scores (15 yard run and 78 yard punt return) before the half giving the Warriors a 21-17 lead.
The 3rd quarter started where the Warriors left off, scoring on their first drive when Moore scored his third TD of the evening, running 13 yards off the left side.
The defense continued to keep Fairbury’s playmakers in check making them punt on their first drive. Moore capped a spectacular night with an amazing 63-yard TD run off the right side.
Wahoo allowed the Jeffs in the endzone one more time to end the 3rd period with another rushing TD. One factor of the game was Wahoo’s ability to control the line of scrimmage and wear down Fairbury’s talented team.
Moore finished the evening with 4 TDs, 186 yards rushing on 24 carries and 99 yards on 2 punt returns. Brunsting did a fantastic job of leading the offense with 143 yards rushing on 14 carries and 61 yards passing.
On defense several players stood out. Taylor Murren had 5 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery, Cole Barry finished with 9 tackles, Sean Lindgren finished with 7 tackles, and Mike Peterson had 7 tackles (2 TFL) from the Defensive Line position.
Wahoo is now 3-1 and will face Wahoo Neumann next Friday on Staff Appreciation Night, October 3.
Wahoo Trounces Mt. Michael in September 12 Match-Up

The Warriors got off to a quick start on a rainy Friday night versus Elkhorn Mt. Michael. After a big kick-off return by Garett Bowers, 44 yards, Layne Moore ran in the first TD of the night from 51 yards out. Wahoo scored again with 6:15 left in the 1st Quarter when Moore ran another one in from 19 yards out.
In the 2nd Quarter Tyler Brunsting got into the act by adding 2 TDs of his own: one score from 18 yards out and another score from 4 yards out. The Warriors took a 27-0 lead into halftime.
There was no scoring in the 3rd Quarter as the offense struggled to move the ball. The 4th Quarter started with more scoring as Moore scored his final TD from 5 yards out. Mt. Michael then took the kick-off back for an 84-yard TD return. This would be the only time Mt. Michael found the endzone all night.
Brunsting and Sean Lindgren added two more scores for the Warriors in the 4th Quarter.
Offensively, Moore finished with 196 yards on 27 carries with 3 rushing TDs, Brunsting had 31 yards rushing with 3 rushing TD, and Lindgren finished with 3 carries for 114 yards and 1 rushing TD. The offense finished with 418 rushing yards on the evening.
Defensively the Warriors put together their best game this season. They held the Mt. Michael Knights to -13 yards rushing and 69 yards passing. Nine different players for Wahoo had a Tackle for Loss (TFL). This night was a total defensive effort as no Warrior defender had more than 5 tackles and Elkhorn Mt. Michael was held to 44 offensive plays.
The Warriors will have a bye this week, as they get ready to travel to Fairbury on September 26.
Syracuse Hands Warriors a Disappointing Homecoming Defeat

It ended up being a disappointing Homecoming Night for the Wahoo Warriors, with a close loss to the Syracuse Rockets on September 5.
The evening started with a great deal of optimism when Wahoo scored first with 1:28 left in the 1st Quarter. Tyler Brunsting scored on a long 53-yard run. The PAT was good and the Warriors held there 7-0 lead till the end of 1st Quarter.
Syracuse then scored twice in the 2nd Quarter on a 6-yard run and 25-yard run by Jake Welter to go up 13-6. Then Wahoo finally got their offense going and scored with 3:36 left in the first half. Wahoo went in at half time with a 14-13 lead after Ethan Harders kicked his second of three successful PATs.
It would be the tale of two halves for the Warrior offensive unit. The second half Wahoo would not net a first down on just four drives for a total of 12 plays.
Syracuse scored on their first drive in very little time with 9:55 left in the 3rd to go up 21-14. The Warriors took little time answering that score when Taylor Murren returned the kick off 93 yards for a TD. The Rockets controlled the clock and the line of scrimmage for the rest of the game. Syracuse’s last score took place on a 24-yard pass with 2:32 left in the 3rd Quarter.
Defensively, Wahoo struggled all night trying to stopp the Rockets’ running game. The Warriors were led defensively by Murren, who had 1l tackles (1 TFL, 2 Sacks), Casey Nice with 9 tackles (1 TFL), and Corey Davis, who had 11 tackles.
The Warriors will travel to Elkhorn next Friday to play Class B Mt. Michael.
WHS Football Team Opens Season with Dominant Victory over Roncalli

Wahoo opened the 2008 season with an exciting 41–26 over Omaha Roncalli on Friday night (August 29). The Warriors struck first when Tyler Brunsting hit Taylor Murren on a 9-yard pass with 2:48 in the 1st Quarter. The PAT failed with an errant snap to the holder. Roncalli answered with a quick score and then capitalized on a fumbled kick off return to go up 12-6.
Wahoo then scored on two straight drives to go up 20-12. Justin Lewandowski recovered a fumble for one of the scores and Brunsting scored on a 7-yard run. Wahoo and Roncalli traded scores one more time before the half for a high scoring 2nd Quarter.
The Warriors took their opening drive and scored when Brunsting scored on a 6-yard run. Roncalli again answered the score with one of their own when they broke a 36-yard run up the middle. Wahoo then scored one last time when Layne Moore rushed for a 22-yard TD.
Offensively Wahoo was led by Moore, finishing with 165 yards on 25 carries, and Murren with 3 receptions for 43 yards. Defensively the Warriors were led by Ben Pokorny (8 tackles, 1 TFL), Moore (8 tackles, 1 TFL), and Murren (7 tackles, 1 TFL). Garret Bowers and Greg Milliken each had an interception and Cole Barry had a fumble recovery.
Wahoo will be tested again next week with a Top Ten Ranked Syracuse coming to town on Friday, September 5.
