CONGRATULATIONS TYLER KAVAN: Tyler has 2048 rushing yards for this season. He had the previous school record (from last season) of 1895 yards. He is the first 2000-yard rusher in Wahoo history! Even more impressive: Tyler has only 214 carries, giving him a 9.57 yards per rush average. He also averages over 200 yards rushing per game! Way to go TK!
Warriors survive trip to Lincoln, down Crusaders 41-35

A short-handed Wahoo football team weathered a first half storm and survived a second round playoff trip to Lincoln.
The Warriors fell behind 28-0 late in the first half, before rallying for the 41-35 win over the Lincoln Christian Crusaders at Lincoln’s Seacrest Field on Wednesday night.
The game got off to a horrible start for the Warriors and they found themselves on the wrong end of a 28-0 score with just over three minutes left in the first half.
Junior interior lineman Seth Lindgren provided the Warriors with a spark when he intercepted a screen pass and the Warriors took over at the LCHS 40-yard line.
Senior Brook Stuart, playing quarterback, scored from a yard out trimming the LCHS lead to 28-7 with 1:34 left in the first half.
On the Crusaders next offensive play, Wahoo safety Jonathan Abbott picked off a tipped pass and returned it 24 yards for a score and in a span of 14 seconds the Warriors were able to cut the Crusader lead in half.
The Warriors scored 21 straight points in the second half behind the running of senior running back Tyler Kavan. Kavan rushed for 218 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in the second half.
Wahoo led 35-28 when LCHS was able to score the equalizer on an 11-yard pass from quarterback Logan Power to wideout Jared Bubek with just over five minutes remaining.
The Warriors calmly marched down the field over the final five minutes and it was Abbott scoring on a 36-yard option keeper with 1:31 left in the game.
The Warriors missed the extra point and the lead was 41-35 with the Crusaders having one more chance with the ball.
The Warrior defense was able to hold on downs at the Christian 42 yard line and escaped with the win.
The Warriors 9-1 will play host to 9-1 Pierce on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Wahoo High School.

To say Wahoo relies on a two-man offensive attack might be an understatement.
To say the Warriors own Arlington in the playoffs would be a certainty.
Tyler Kavan and Jonathan Abbott combined for 90 percent of their team's offensive yards Thursday night as Wahoo ended Arlington's season for the fourth straight year with a 42-8 victory in the first round of the Class C-1 state playoffs.
Kavan, who has rushed for more than 1,800 yards this season, scored on touchdown runs of 9, 95 and 8 yards during a 238-yard performance. Abbott, whose completion rate for the season is 60 percent, was a perfect 8-for-8 for 114 yards and a 28-yard touchdown to Jacob Moline. He also rushed for 89 yards and touchdowns of 13 and 16 yards.
The two seniors accounted for all but 47 of Wahoo's 488 yards and 38 of those other yards came on the Warriors' final drive of the game.
“That 1-2 punch in the backfield is explosive with the guys they have up front,” Arlington coach Steven Gubbels said. “They are a talented ball club. They definitely have some offensive weapons. You have to honor every part of the field.”
Arlington (4-5), playoff qualifiers in nine of the last 10 years, opened the game as it needed to against Wahoo (8-1), which is making its seventh-straight playoff appearance.
The Eagles kept the ball on the ground its first two possessions, gaining a first down on each drive, and held Wahoo to three-and-out on its first possession.
A false start and a negative rushing play halted the first Arlington drive, which ended with a 15-yard punt into the wind, and two plays for minus yards stopped the second drive.
Wahoo then scored on its next three possessions and led 21-0 at halftime.
“You have to play error-free ball to get any momentum,” Gubbels said.
Kavan made it 28-0 a minute into the second half when he took a handoff to the left side, cut back, and ran untouched 95 yards for a touchdown. That play was a yard short of the Class C-1 playoff record for longest touchdown run.
“He's a pretty dynamic player,” Wahoo coach Chad Fox said.
Arlington answered with its only score on the ensuing possession.
The Eagles marched 65 yards in 12 plays with Josh Schollmeyer scoring from the 8 with 5:10 left in the third quarter. Schollmeyer, who has gained more than 1,500 rushing yards this season, carried eight times on the drive for 38 yards. He finished with 102 yards on 29 carries.
Wahoo crowded the line of scrimmage in an attempt to slow Schollmeyer and the Arlington running game.
The Eagles finished with 141 rushing yards, getting 31 from Ross Miller, and added 41 passing yards.
“They caught us with a few passes, but that's not their game,” Fox said. “They do a good job getting into tempo. They run unbalanced and you get yourself outflanked a little bit.”
Other than Kavan's long run, the Warriors struggled somewhat in the third quarter.
The Warriors committed six penalties in the period, including three on Arlington's touchdown drive, fumbled three times and lost one.
“I wish it was a little cleaner game,” Fox said. “We had some penalties we haven't had all year.”
Wahoo did score on its final two possessions, with TD runs by Kavan and Abbott capping 40- and 49-yard drives.

Wahoo earned, for only the second time in school history, a District Championship with their blowout victory over the 7-1 Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays on Friday night.
Wahoo was running on all cylinders as Tyler Kavan led the offensive efforts with 14 carries for 247 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Ethan Stratman made the most of his carries late in the game going for 97 yards on three carries and two touchdowns. Jon Abbott had a very efficient evening, passing for six completions on seven attempts with 109 yards and 2 touchdown passes. The Warrior Offense had over 500 yards of total offense for the third time this season.
Defensively, the Warriors were dominant for the third consecutive week, not allowing their opponent in the end zone. Kirk Lindstrom led the defense with 16 tackles, one tackle for loss and two caused fumbles. Wahoo’s defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage with Seth Lindgren recording seven tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack. Jason Semrad and Brent Tenopir both had five tackles; Dylan Jaskulski and Trevor Carstens both had four tackles, with two of them for a loss. The Warrior Defense gave up just over 200 yards of total offense to the Bluejays.
Wahoo (#2 seed) will welcome the Arlington Eagles to Wahoo on Thursday Night for the first round of the 2012 Playoffs. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

Wahoo landed its sixth victory on Friday night against Logan View. Logan View was overmatched as the Warriors accumulated 478 yards of offense to Logan View’s 36.
Offensively Tyler Kavan led Wahoo with 22 carries on 213 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Jon Abbott had a very efficient night with going 10 for 13 through the air with 133 yards and one touchdown pass.
Defensively the Warriors controlled the line of scrimmage all night long. Kirk Lindstrom led them with 11 tackles, one tackle for a loss, and one caused fumble. Jacob Moline and Gavin Iversen each had five tackles as well, with Iversen having two of those for a loss.
Wahoo will be playing Ashland-Greenwood (6-1) at home next Friday for a District Championship.

Wahoo picked up its fifth win of the 2012 season on Friday when they beat the Bishop Neumann Cavaliers 41-0.
Offensively, Wahoo was led by Tyler Kavan and Jon Abbott, who accounted for 362 rushing yards on the night. Jon Abbott had 186 yards rushing on 12 carries, one rushing touchdown and one passing touchdown. Abbott also had 33 yards passing. Kavan rushed the ball 23 times for 176 yards, four rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. Wahoo had 406 yards of total offense on the evening.
The Warrior defense held Bishop Neumann’s offense in check with only 106 yards of total offense, while forcing four turnovers on the night. Wahoo’s defense was led by Jacob Moline, who provided another solid game on defense with 12 tackles, one tackle for a loss and one interception, followed by fellow linebacker Kirk Lindstrom with ten tackles and one tackle for a loss. Jason Semrad had seven tackles and one tackle for a loss. Kavan had three tackles and one interception, while Gavin Iversen added three tackles and one fumble recovery. Seth Lindgren had three tackles and one sack.
Wahoo will welcome Logan View to town next week on October 12 for their 2012 Homecoming Game.

Wahoo got back to their winning ways on Friday night at Raymond Central, picking up their fourth win of the 2012 season. Wahoo’s offense racked up over 500 yards of total offense on the Mustangs.
The offensive line paved the way for Wahoo’s offense as the running game accumulated 375 yards on the ground. The offense was led by Tyler Kavan’s 229 yards rushing with five rushing touchdowns. Kavan added two receptions for 55 yards. Jon Abbott had seven carries for 68 yards and one rushing touchdown, as well as going seven for 11 throwing for 137 yards. Josh Langemeier had three receptions for 47 yards and Jacob Moline added two catches for 37 yards.
The Warrior Defense held the Mustangs in check by getting four takeaways, four sacks, and one tackle for loss. The defense was lead by Moline, who registered eight tackles, one sack and one interception. Preston Raymond had seven tackles and one fumble recovery, Kirk Lindstrom had six tackles, Drake Steinmetz had six tackles and one sack. Gavin Iversen led the secondary with two interceptions, and Abbott had one interception of his own. Langemeier led the special teams efforts with a 74-yard punt return.
Wahoo will travel across town to take on Bishop Neumann on Friday, October 5.

Wahoo suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night when they took on the #1-ranked Norfolk Catholic Knights. Wahoo struggled with field position all night as the offense never really got on track.
Tyler Kavan led Wahoo’s offense with 110 rushing on 24 carries and one touchdown run from 39 yards out. Jacob Moline had a great night receiving with two catches for 64 yards, followed by Preston Raymond with one catch for 15 yards, and Kirk Lindstrom with one catch for 11 yards. Wahoo was only able to get just over 200 yards of total offense on the evening.
The Warrior defense had a tough task, as the offense was not able to sustain drives. The defense was on the field most of the game and was led by Jacob Moline. Moline played one of his best games, accumulating 14 tackles and a couple of sacks. Raymond had 11 tackles and Lindstrom had 10 tackles on the evening.
Norfolk Catholic had a tough time running inside on the Warriors, so their attack was focused on the perimeter where the Wahoo defensive backs had to make a lot of stops. Gavin Iversen (9 tackles), Kavan (8 tackles) and Josh Langemeier (8 tackles) all had more tackles than normal. Kavan also had two interceptions, and one of those was returned for a 76-yard touchdown.
Wahoo will travel to Raymond Central next Friday, September 28 for its first District game with the Mustangs.

Wahoo had a slow start on Friday versus Fort Calhoun, but used a 28-point second quarter to secure its third victory of the season. Fort Calhoun struck first, scoring on their first drive of the evening, and it took Wahoo a while to get going.
Jon Abbott, who scored on two runs and one pass while accumulating 121 yards on the ground and another 122 in the air, led the Wahoo Offense. Josh Langemeier also helped pace the offense with two touchdown runs of his own and one touchdown catch from Abbott. Langemeier had 81 yards rushing and 88 yards receiving on the evening. Fort Calhoun did a good job of limiting Tyler Kavan to 42 yards, so Abbott and Langemeier had to step up to keep the offense moving.
The Warrior Defense was challenged all night with Fort Calhoun’s offense and struggled at times getting the Pioneers off of the field. Kirk Lindstrom and Jacob Moline lead all tacklers with 11 tackles each. The play that swung the game’s momentum early in the second quarter was the pass interception that was returned for a touchdown by Gavin Iversen. Iversen finished with eight tackles on the night. Preston Raymond added seven tackles and Jason Semrad had six tackles on the evening.
Wahoo will have a much welcomed bye this week and then host the #1 Norfolk Catholic Knights the following week on September 21, 2012.

Wahoo got out to another fast start on Friday night, stopping Boys Town on their first drive and scoring on their first drive in 8 plays. In a fast-paced, high-scoring first half, the Warriors were able to slow the Cowboys down in the second half and find the endzone one more time.
On offense the Warriors finished with 525 yards of total offense. They were lead by Tyler Kavan, who accumulated 309 yards on the ground and 24 yards receiving on the evening with two touchdowns. Josh Langemeier also scored two touchdowns with six carries for 52 yards and two receptions for 64 yards.
Boys Town kept Jon Abbott bottled up for the night, only allowing Abbott nine rushes for 52 yards. Abbott did find the endzone twice on the ground and threw seven completions on 11 attempts for 103 yards and one touchdown pass.
Defensively, Wahoo had the tall task of slowing down the Cowboys’ Offense that scored 61 points the previous week versus Lincoln Christian. Wahoo allowed 202 yards rushing and 83 yards passing for the game; however, the Warrior defense only allowed 62 total yards in the second half.
Jacob Moline, who had 15 tackles, and Jon Abbott, with 13 tackles and one interception, led the defense.
The Warriors also benefited from the contributions of Gavin Iversen, who had ten tackles (one for a loss), Kavan with seven tackles (three for a loss), and Kirk Lindstrom, who had seven tackles (one for a loss). The defensive play of the game was when Drake Steinmetz picked up a fumble late in the first quarter and returned it 62 yards for a touchdown. Steinmetz finished the night with four tackles.
Wahoo will travel to Fort Calhoun on next Friday, September 7, 2012.

Wahoo got its 2012 season started in the right direction on Friday night, with a 42-0 shutout at D.C. West.
Wahoo’s offense was fairly effective, moving the ball on the ground and using opportune times to move the ball in the air. The Wahoo offense accumulated over 400 yards of total offense on Friday evening, while only allowing just over 100 yards of offense for D.C. West.
The Wahoo offensive line was dominant, and opened huge holes for the backfield all night. Tyler Kavan was able to gain 272 yards rushing with 1 rushing TD and 15 yards receiving with 1 receiving TD. Jon Abbott had a fairly efficient night with 56 yards rushing with 1 rushing 2-point conversion and 4 completions on 6 attempts for 37 yards and 2 passing touchdowns. Sophomore Alex Abbott ended up with 3 total touchdowns on the evening.
Defensively the Warriors played pretty well for having several starters unable to play. The Warrior defense was led by junior linebacker Kirk Lindstrom, with 10 tackles, and sophomore linebacker Drake Steinmetz with 9 tackles. Lindstrom also had 2 caused fumbles and 1 fumble recovery. Jason Semrad led the defensive line with 5 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. Gavin Iversen led the defensive secondary with 6 tackles, and Nick Russell had Wahoo’s only interception on the evening, returning it for 20 yards.
Wahoo will play host to the Boys Town Cowboys next Friday, August 31.
