FBLA Members Attend State Leadership Convention
Nine FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) members and one advisor attended the State Leadership Convention (SLC) in Omaha on Thursday and Friday, April 1 & 2, 2004 along with 1,800 other FBLA members from across the state.
This year's conference started with a bang featuring keynote speaker, Walter Bond. Bond is a former basketball player for the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons. He explains how "No One Can Stop You But You" in his opening presentation. Bond speaks to audiences all across the country, encouraging youth by "giving them confidence to face the future by being the person they want to be".
After the Opening Session, the FBLA members were busy taking tests that relate to business. These areas included Economics, Business Law, Spelling, Proofreading, Keyboarding, and Introduction to Business, to name a few. Each Wahoo FBLA member was required to take four tests. We had two winners receiving Honorable Mention awards. They were Lyndey B. in Spelling and Samantha M. in Proofreading. Honorable Mentions are awarded to those placing in the top 5% of test scores.
The FBLA members were also required to attend two seminars. Seminar topics included such things as how to be a good speaker and how to effectively prepare for an interview.
New state FBLA officers were also elected during this conference. During the second general session, the officers gave their campaign speeches and skits. They also had campaign booths with lots of freebies. The students always seem to enjoy this part of SLC.
Our Wahoo FBLA members were extremely respectful, courteous, and polite to everyone during the entire SLC and represented Wahoo Public Schools in a very positive manner.
