Keynote Speaker Stresses Leadership in School/Community

     On September 28, the 2005-2006 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) officers attended a leadership conference in Omaha. FBLA President Gina H., Vice President Cassidy N., Secretary Brooke R., Historian Sammy M., and Treasurer Kristin K. were among 600 FBLA officers who attended from around the state.

    The keynote speaker for the event was Keith Hawkins from Los Angeles, who talked to students about how to become effective leaders in schools and communities.

    Attendees then split up into groups based on leadership positions held. Topics for group discussions included fundraising ideas, community projects, and how to recruit more people into FBLA.

    Brooke R. said that she learned how to improve her secretary skills, and she came away from the event with an inspirational quote from the speaker:

    'Your thoughts become your habits, your habits become your words, your words become your character, and character is who you are,' Hawkins stated.
