Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Wahoo Warrior Boys Reserve Basketball Team finished their successful season with a strong win over Elkhorn Mount Michael.
The Warriors hit the road in an attempt to push their record to 9 and 4, and they accomplished their mission by defeating the Knights, 52-45.
The Warriors and Knights were deadlocked at 7 after one quarter of play; however, the Warriors picked up their defensive intensity in the second quarter, outscoring the Knights 24 to 7. Max Cook and Trenton Raymond led the Warriors in the second frame, scoring 8 each. Once again, Cook was a defensive power in the first half. He finished with 7 steals before halftime. The Warriors used their defensive pressure through the first two quarters to control the game. They forced Mount Michael into 16 turnovers at half.
The Knights picked up their level of play through the 3rd and 4th quarters. They forced the Warriors into some critical turnovers and clawed their way back into the game. The Knights cut the Warriors’ lead to 11 with 5 minutes remaining in regulation, but fortunately the Warriors made some critical free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Max Cook once again had an outstanding all-around game. He finished the contest with 20 points, 8 steals and 4 rebounds. In addition, Trenton Raymond and Michael Kersten also played well for the Warriors. Raymond finished the game with 13 points, while Kersten finished with 7 points and 6 rebounds. Josh Proctor also played well, finishing with a team high 6 assists.
The Warriors forced the Knights into 24 turnovers on the game and held them to just 36% shooting from the field.

9-4 Warriors Travel to Mount Michael Thursday for Final Season Contest
The Wahoo Warrior Boys Reserve Basketball Team gained two wins at the D.C. West Tournament on February 7. The two wins gave the Warriors the tournament championship for the second year in a row.
In the first contest, the Warriors “beat up” on the Mount Michael Knights. The Warriors controlled the contest from start to finish, winning 48 to 28.
The Warriors used a stifling defense to shut down the Knights. They took a 24-15 lead into halftime and never looked back. Casey Brown led the Warriors through the first two quarters of play with 9 points. Max Cook also played well in the first half finishing with 7 points and 5 steals.
The Warriors continued their defensive dominance in the 3rd and 4th quarters, holding the Knights to 7 and 6 points in those respective quarters. Josh Procter was a strong contributor in the second half scoring 4 points on 4 for 4 shooting from the free throw line.
Brown and Cook led the Warriors in the scoring with 13 and 10 respectively. Cook finished with an outstanding 7 steals and 5 assists on the game. Michael Kersten led the Warriors in rebounding with 7 and finished with 8 points as well. The Warriors shot an outstanding 79% from the free throw line for the game. Defensively they forced the Knights into 24 turnovers on the game and held them to just 31% shooting.
The win against Mount Michael advanced the Warriors to the Championship game against and very good Fremont Bergan team. Once again the Warriors used an outstanding defensive effort, holding the high scoring Knights to just 25 for the game to gain the championship title.
The Warriors took a slim 20 to 18 point lead into halftime. The Warriors struggled in the second quarter scoring only 4 points. Once again, Brown led the Warriors through the first two quarters scoring 8 by half. The Warriors did struggle containing the Knights from the 3-point line in the first half. Bergan made all 3 of their 3 point attempts through quarters 1 and 2.
However, the Warriors stepped up their defensive intensity in the second half. They allowed the Knights to score only 2 points until 3 minutes remained in the game. This allowed the Warriors to go on an 18-2 scoring run in the second half to put the game away. Max Cook led the Warriors in the second half with 5 points and did an outstanding job defensively against Bergan’s talented guards.
The Warriors held the Knights to just 24% shooting from the floor, and out-rebounded them 24 to 17. In addition, they forced the Knights into 15 turnovers on the game. Cook and Brown led the Warriors in scoring with 10 a piece. The Warriors also got strong contributions from Mitch Snyder, Kersten, Proctor and Trenton Raymond on the game.
The 9-4 Warriors will travel to Elkhorn Mount Michael on Thursday, February 12, for their final contest of the year. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6:00 p.m. in the Mount Michael high school gym.
Warrior Freshman Boys Roll Over Arlington for Key Win
6-4 Warriors Head to February 7 D.C. West Reserve Tournament
The Wahoo Warrior boys freshman team dominated the Arlington Eagles in a make-up game on February 5 at Arlington. The Warriors won the game handily, 70-31. The win pushed the Warriors record to 6-4 on the season.
The Warriors jumped on the Eagles early in the contest. They outscored the Eagles 43-20 in the first half. A lack of rebounding by the Warriors allowed the Eagles to stay within striking distance through the first quarter. The Warriors allowed the Eagles to garner 12 offensive boards through the first 2 quarters of play; however, Max Cook and Casey Brown both had outstanding offensive first halves against the Eagles. They both scored 13 points each through the first half of play. Brock Partridge also had a solid second quarter, scoring 6.
The Warriors continued their domination through the second half, holding the Eagles to just 11 points during the 3rd and 4th quarters. This allowed the Warriors to extend their lead. Mitch Snyder led the Warriors in the second half with 11 points, going an outstanding 8 for 9 at the free throw line.
Wahoo was able to turn their offensive woes around from Monday night. They shot a solid 45% from the field and 68% from the free throw line. In addition, they limited their turnovers, committing only 18 on the game. Brown led the Warriors in scoring with 19, followed by Cook and Snyder with 13 each. Once again Cook filled the stat sheet, finishing with an outstanding 9 steals and 7 assists. Snyder collected a double-double, finishing with 14 boards to go along with his 13 points.
The Warriors’ next contest will be at the D.C. West reserved tournament to be held on Saturday, February 7. The Warriors will face the Mount Michael Knights in a 10:00 a.m. contest in Valley.
Offensive Struggles Hurt Warriors' Boys Freshman Team in David City Aquinas Loss
5-4 Warriors Travel to Arlington for February 5 Make-Up Game
The Wahoo Warriors boys freshman basketball team suffered a tough loss at the hands of the David City Monarchs, 42-40, on February 2 at David City. The loss moved the Warriors’ record to 5-4 on the season.
The first half of play was a back and forth battle. The Warriors got off to a much better start, outscoring the Monarchs 14 to 9 in the first quarter; however, the Warriors continued to struggle from the free throw line in the first quarter, making only 2 of 8 attempts. Max Cook had an outstanding first quarter for the Warriors, scoring 9 points.
The Monarchs battled back in the second quarter and the Warriors’ offensive struggles began to set in. The Monarchs outscored the Warriors 11-8 in the second frame.
The second half of play was highly contested. There were several lead changes and ties throughout the second half. Casey Brown stepped up his level of play in the second half scoring 10 of his game high 16 points. The Warriors found themselves down by 2 in the waning seconds of the game, but could not find a way to score, which helped preserve the Monarchs’ win.
Brown, in addition to leading the Warriors in scoring, picked up 10 rebounds on the night. Cook was the only other Warrior in double figures, scoring 11. Cook also finished with 6 steals on the game. Michael Kersten finished with an outstanding 9 rebounds in the contest.
The Warriors, once again, played a solid game defensively. They forced the Monarchs into 30 turnovers on the game, which led to the Warriors having 46 shot attempts compared to the Monarchs 19. However, the Warriors had difficulty converting offensively, shooting only 30% from the field. In addition, the Warriors struggled mightily from the free throw line, making only 9 out 25 attempts (36%).
The Warriors will travel to Arlington on Thursday, February 5, for a make-up contest with the Eagles. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m.
Warrior Freshmen Post Solid Win over Bennington
5-3 Warriors Travel to David City Aquinas for February 2 Contest
The Wahoo Warrior boys freshman team pushed their record to 5 and 3 with a strong win on January 31. The Warriors once again played a strong second half to beat the Badgers 47-45 at Bennington.
Once again, the Warriors played a poor first quarter, being outscored 12-9 by the Badgers. The Warriors had a difficult time scoring from the field and missed several free throws through the first quarter. The Warriors made only 8 free throws out of 17 attempts through the first 2 quarters of play; however, the Warriors picked up the pace in the second quarter, outscoring the Badgers 14-12. Mitch Snyder played a strong first half, leading the Warriors with 8 points.
The Warriors again played an outstanding third quarter. The Warriors outscored the Badgers 15-5 through the third. This allowed the Warriors to take solid control of the game until the Badgers made a run in the fourth. Max Cook led the Warriors in the third with 7 points and had several steals on the defensive end. Wahoo maintained their lead mid-way through the fourth quarter, but then the Badgers made a run and were within 2 points with 16 seconds left in regulation.
The Warriors missed a crucial lay-up to give the Badgers possession with 9 seconds left. However, the Badgers missed a contested three point shot and offensive put-back as the buzzer sounded and the Warriors were able to preserve the win.
Max Cook was a stat stuffer for the Warriors. He finished the game with 15 points, 5 assists, and a season team high 10 steals. He forced the Badgers into many turnovers with his outstanding defense as well. Casey Brown and Mitch Snyder also turned in solid performances for the Warriors. Brown finished the game with 13 points, and 3 rebounds. Snyder tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds for the game.
Defense was once again a key element in the Warriors’ victory. The Warriors forced the Badgers into a total 33 turnovers and allowed the Badgers to shoot only 39% from the field for the game.
The Warriors will once again be on the road for their next contest. They travel to David City Aquinas on February 2 for a 7:45 p.m. contest.
Wahoo Warrior Freshman Team Gains Win over Lincoln Lutheran
4-3 Warriors Travel to Bennington January 31
The Wahoo Warriors Freshman boys basketball team gained a strong win against the Lincoln Lutheran Warriors on January 24. The Wahoo frosh beat the Warriors 73-52, which pushed their record to 4 and 3.
Once again, the Warriors played a poor first half, tailing most of the way and trailed by four at half time: 36-32. Wahoo played poorly on the defensive side of the ball as well. They put Lutheran to the line 22 times, with Lutheran hitting 15 charity shots. In addition, Wahoo was out-rebounded by Lutheran in the first half 23-16. Brady Darnell and Max Cook helped to keep Wahoo in the game through the first two quarters. Cook finished with 14 points at half and Darnell had 8, hitting two three point shots.
Wahoo was able to make the necessary adjustments in the second half to rally for the 21-point win. Casey Brown, Josh Proctor and Cook all had outstanding second halves. Each scored 10 points in the two quarters. The Wahoo Warriors took the lead early in the third quarter and never looked back. Wahoo cranked up their defensive pressure in the second half, forcing Lutheran into 16 turnovers. This would prove to be a critical aspect, as it limited Lutheran to a total of 20 shots during the last two quarters.
Cook led Wahoo in several categories and had an outstanding game for the Warriors. He scored a total of 23 points for the game, and also led the Warriors with 8 assists and accumulated 4 steals for the games. Lastly, he shot an outstanding 8 for 9 from the free throw line.
Once again, Brown was huge for the Warriors in the second half and for the game. He finished with 17 points, and tied with Trenton Raymond for steals with 5. The Wahoo Warriors also got key contributions for Darnell and Proctor for the game. They each finished with 12 points. Raymond had an outstanding defensive game for the Warriors in the second half.
The Warriors travel to Bennington on January 31 for a 10:30 a.m. contest.
Seward Blue Jays Hand Wahoo Boys Freshman Basketball Squad Tough Loss
3-3 Warriors Prepare for January 24 Game at Lincoln Lutheran
The Wahoo Warriors freshman boys’ basketball team was handed a tough loss on January 19 at Wahoo. The Seward Blue Jays beat the Warriors 42 to 39. The Blue Jays outscored the Warriors 16 to 9 in the final quarter to pull ahead for the win. Max Cook had a final shot at the buzzer, however, his contested look rimmed out.
The Blue Jays controlled the first half of play, taking a 22 to 14 lead into halftime. The Jays beat the Warriors on the boards and forced them into 12 turnovers by half. These two factors contributed to the Warriors deficit. In addition, the Blue Jays were 7 for 8 from the free throw line through the first 2 quarters, which helped push their lead to as many as 14 points.
For the second game in a row the Warriors turned up their defensive pressure in the second half to forge ahead for a lead mid-way through the third quarter. This allowed the Warriors to outscore the Jays 16 to 4 in the third quarter. In addition, the Warriors forced the Jays into 8 turnovers through the third. This lead carried through until 4 minutes remained in the game. At this point of the game, the Jays made a strong comeback and knocked down some critical free throws to take the lead by 2. The Jays then missed the second of two free throws with 12 seconds left, leaving their lead at only three. The Warriors called time out with 8 seconds remaining in an attempt to get a look at a solid shot; however, the Jays’ defense stymied the Warriors and forced a last second miss.
Casey Brown once again led the Warriors in scoring. He finished the game with 12 points and played a very strong second half. Trenton Raymond also played well for the Warriors, finishing with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Max Cook and Josh Proctor led the Warriors in assist with 3 each. The Warriors shot a very strong 87 percent from the free throw line; however, the Jays shot a total of 21 free throws to the Warriors 12. A key stat that haunted the Warriors was rebounding. The Jays out-rebounded the Warriors 31 to 23.
The Warriors’ record now stands at 3-3. Their next contest will be held on January 24 at Lincoln Lutheran High School. Tip-off is set for 10:15 a.m.
Wahoo Warriors Freshman Boys Basketball Team Gains a Much-Needed Win against Ashland-Greenwood
Warriors Travel to Arlington for January 12 Match-Up

The Wahoo Warriors freshman boys basketball team got back to their winning ways after posting a 62 to 30 win over Ashland-Greenwood on January 5. The Warriors had dropped their last two ball games before defeating the Blue Jays at home.
The Warriors and Blue Jays battled hard throughout the first half of play. This half was marked by ragged play by both teams. Both teams struggled from the field shooting and taking care of the ball. At the end of the first quarter, the score was deadlocked at 11’s. The Warriors were able to gain a slight lead at halftime, 22-16. A strong defensive effort during the second quarter allowed the Warriors to gain such an advantage. Holding the Blue Jays to just 4 points in the second quarter was a season best. Eleven turnovers hurt the Warriors in the first half; however, the Warriors were able to force Ashland into 14 turnovers through the first two quarters.
Wahoo turned up the heat in the second half and outscored the Blue Jays 40 to 14 to put the game away. The Warriors used outstanding pressure defense and solid offensive execution to push the final score to 62-30 in the Warriors’ favor.
Max Cook, Casey Brown, and Mitch Snyder were major contributors to the Warriors’ second half success. The three freshmen played outstanding on both sides of the ball to put the Blue Jays away mid-way through the third quarter.
Casey Brown led the Warriors in scoring for the second game in a row. He played a strong second half, tallying 18 points on 8 for 14 shooting (57%). Cook once again did an outstanding job of being the Warriors’ floor general. He finished the game 17 points, going 7 for 9 from the free throw line. He was also second in rebounding with 6 for the Warriors.
In addition, Snyder had an outstanding game. He recorded the Warriors’ first double-double on the season. Snyder finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the contest. He also recorded 2 blocks on the evening.
The Warriors once again improved their free throw shooting, with a strong 70% from the line for the game. The Warriors also beat the Blue Jays in rebounding, 36 to 27, and forced them into 33 turnovers. These were two key factors in the Warrior win.
The Warriors next contest will be held on January 12 at Arlington High School. Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
Wahoo Warriors Freshman Boys Basketball Team Record Evens to 2-2 after Loss to Bishop Neumann
Boys Take on Ashland-Greenwood at Home on January 5

The Wahoo Warriors Freshman boys basketball team record evened to 2 and 2 after a 54 to 39 loss to the Bishop Neumann Cavaliers. The game was played at Bishop Neumann High School on December 30. This loss was the Warriors’ second in a row.
For the second game in a row, the Warriors fell behind early and struggled through the first quarter as the Cavaliers outscored the Warriors 15 to 7. The Warriors picked up their intensity and battled back through the2nd quarter. However, the Cavaliers still held a 29 to 18 lead at the half. Turnovers hurt the Warriors through the first half. The Warriors ended up committing 12 turnovers by the halftime buzzer and 23 for the game.
Wahoo played a very strong 3rd quarter, outscoring the Cavaliers 13 to 11. The Warriors were able to utilize strong defensive intensity to edge their way back into the game. They forced the Cavaliers into 8 turnovers in the third quarter, but the Cavaliers in-turn picked up their intensity through the 4th quarter outscoring the Warriors 14 to 8 to finalize the score at 54 to 39 in their advantage. Once again, turnovers hurt the Warriors at the beginning of the 4th quarter.
Casey Brown led the Warriors throughout this contest. He performed at a high level offensively, scoring 18 points and shooting an outstanding 9 for 15 from the field. He also contributed strongly to the Warriors rebounding efforts with 6. Max Cook was the only other Warrior to finish in double figures. He scored 10 points for the game and added an outstanding 7 assists. Mitch Snyder led the Warriors with 7 rebounds, however, the Warriors were out-rebounded by the Cavaliers 35 to 32. Once again, the Warriors must improve upon their free throw shooting for the remainder of the season. They shot just 30% for the game.
The Warriors’ next contest will be held on January 5, at Wahoo High School. The Warriors will battle the Ashland-Greenwood Blue Jays with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
Fremont Tigers Hang Tough Loss on Wahoo Warrior Boys Freshman Team
The Wahoo Warriors Boys Freshman basketball team “picked-up” their first loss of the season at Fremont on December 15. The Tigers hit a game winning shot at the buzzer to put the final score at 54 to 52. The game was a back and forth battle, with the lead changing several times throughout the contest. The Warriors were outscored 17 to 10 in the fourth quarter, which proved to be costly.
The Warriors fell behind early, trailing the tigers 12 to 8 at the end of the first quarter. However, they played an outstanding 2nd quarter, outscoring Fremont 18 to 11. Max Cook led the Warriors in the 2nd quarter with 8 points. The Warriors did continue to struggle at the free throw line through the first half, shooting only 11 for 22.
The second half was a back and forth struggle. The Warriors did extend their lead to seven points towards the end of the 3rd quarter. However, the tigers used strong defensive intensity to force the Warriors into critical turnovers in the fourth quarter. This allowed them to regain the lead late in the fourth quarter. As the lead changed multiple times throughout the 4th, the score ended up deadlocked at 53 with just 7 seconds remaining. The Tigers were able to beat the Warriors defense and hit a shot from the free throw line as the buzzer sounded to win the ball game.
Max Cook once again led the Warriors in several categories. He finished the contest with a team leading 20 points, 7 steals, and 3 assists. The Warriors also got strong contributions from Michael Kersten and Justin Lewandowski. Lewandowski was the Warriors’ second leading scorer, finishing with 10 points. Lewandowski also led the Warriors in rebounding with 9. Kersten shot an outstanding 83% from the free throw line, finishing with seven points. The Warriors met their goal of out-rebounding the Tigers. They beat Fremont on the boards 36 to 26. However, an area of weakness for the Warriors continues to be free throw shooting. They shot only 56% from the free throw line in the contest.
The Warriors’ next contest will be held on December 30 at Bishop Neumann High School. Tip-off is set for 10:30 a.m.
Wahoo Warriors Freshman Boys Basketball Team "Holds On" for a Tight Win over Lincoln Northeast
The Wahoo Warriors Freshman boys’ basketball team picked-up their second win of the season by defeating the Lincoln Northeast Rockets 48-46 on December 11.
The Warriors received strong performances from Josh Proctor, Michael Kersten, and Mitch Snyder throughout the contest. In addition, point guard Max Cook once again did a solid job of running the Warrior team.
The first half was a battle of runs by both teams. Several lead changes occurred throughout the first and second quarters. Strong defensive pressure applied by the Warriors held the Rockets to just eight first quarter points. The second quarter was a hard fought battle, with the Warriors coming away with a 21-19 lead at halftime. The Warriors picked up their offense through the third quarter, taking a 39-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter. However, the Rockets refused to go away and battled hard throughout the fourth quarter. The Warriors struggled making free throws in the fourth quarter, which caused their lead to dwindle, but Max Cook knocked down two free throws late in the game to seal the victory.
Once again, a strong defensive effort led to the Warriors moving to 2-0 on the season. The Warriors forced the Rockets into 20 turnovers for the game, including 12 steals. In addition, the Warriors held their opponent to just 34% shooting from the field.
Rebounding was once again a weakness for the Warriors. They were beaten on the glass 41-24. The Warriors will make an improvement in rebounding a priority over the next few weeks.
Proctor led the Warriors in scoring with 12 points, going 4 for 5 from the field and free throw line. Kersten chipped in 8 points while shooting 60% from the field, and Snyder added 6. Snyder and Kersten led the Warriors in rebounding with 5 apiece. Cook led the Warriors in steals with 4.
The Warriors’ next contest will be against Fremont High School on December 15. This game is slated to start at 7:15 p.m. at Fremont High School.
Warrior Boys' Freshman Basketball Team Defeats Raymond Central in 2008-2009 Season Opening Battle
The Wahoo Warriors freshman boys basketball team began its season with a strong win on December 8, 2008. The Warriors defeated the Raymond Central Mustangs 58-46 on their home floor.
The Warriors were led by strong performances from Max Cook and Mitch Snyder; however, the entire team contributed to the effort. All eight players that suited for the game scored and contributed to the strong defensive performance.
The first quarter was a low scoring, hard fought battle. Both teams battled the first game jitters, which led to a number of turnovers. This resulted in tie score, 7-7, after the first.
The Warriors picked up their scoring in the second quarter while holding the Mustangs in check with their defense. The Warriors took a 24-18 lead at halftime.
Snyder was a consistent scorer through the first two quarters, shooting an outstanding 67% from the field. The Warriors continued their outstanding defensive performance through the 3rd and 4th quarters, outscoring the Mustangs 17-16 and 17-12 respectively.
A strong defensive effort was a key in the Warriors’ success. The Warriors forced the Mustangs into 22 turnovers, while committing only 16 of their own. The Warriors had 16 steals including, 6 from Cook, and 3 from Brady Darnell.
The Warriors also shot a higher percentage than the Mustangs from both the field and the free throw line. Josh Proctor led the Warriors at the free throw line, going 4 for 5 (80%). Wahoo held the Mustangs to just 35% shooting from the field.
Cook led the Warriors with 19 points, followed by Snyder and Michael Kersten with 8 each. Snyder led the Warriors in rebounding with 8, followed by Cook with 6.
The Warriors next contest will be against Lincoln Northeast on December 11. This game is slated to start at 7:15 p.m. at the Wahoo Public Gym.
