The Wahoo Warriors’ season came to an end on Thursday night in the Sub-District finals at Blair High School vs. the Bishop Neumann Cavaliers, 64-50.
The Warriors led 12-8 late in the first half, but back-to-back put-backs from the Cavaliers tied the game at 12 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Warriors struggled shooting the ball, and Neumann was able to open up a 26-20 lead. The Cavaliers blocked 9 first half shots from the Warriors, many of those coming from Marshall Payer.
Neumann scored the first basket of the second half to open up a 10-point lead at 28-18. The Warriors would battle back though. A Josh Discher bucket cut the lead to 35-30. Following a Payer basket, Max Cook drained a trey and followed that up with two free throws to cut the Neumann lead to 2 at 37-35 with 1:45 left in the quarter. The Cavaliers answered though. Bret Pospisil hit back-to-back buckets, with the second one being a trey to extend the lead to 42-35. A Greg Milliken basket cut the Neumann lead to 42-37 after three quarters.
The Warriors could not cut the lead down under 5 points in the fourth quarter, and Neumann extended the lead throughout the quarter before going on to the 64-50 win.
“Marshall Payer came up really big for Neumann. His shot blocking and rebounding and put-backs, I think were the difference in the game. I felt pretty good, when we cut the lead to two late in the third, but Pospisil’s back-to-back buckets were huge for them as well. We just did not shoot the ball well enough tonight to beat an excellent team,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
“I liked our chances coming in. I felt we were playing at a very high level, but give Neumann a ton of credit for playing a great game,” Scheef added.
Discher led the Warriors with 16 points and 11 boards. Cook added 12 points and 5 steals. Sean Lindgren added 10 points.
The Warriors finish the season 19-6, while Neumann improves to 19-5 and advances to the District Finals, where they will face Omaha Roncalli.

The lead was 67-31 after three quarters, before the reserves finished out the fourth quarter.
“I was very pleased with how we played tonight. I thought we played very unselfishly tonight. We were making the extra pass tonight, which was great to see. We took care of business early tonight. It was a very good win for us. Greg Milliken shot the ball extremely well for us. Max played well again, and Jon Abbott and Sean Lindgren played very well also,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Milliken led the Warriors with 23 points on 11-17 shooting from the field, and 5 boards. Cook added 17 points on just 7 shots from the floor. The Wahoo Warriors closed out the regular season with a 69-33 victory over the Schuyler Warriors.
The game was close early as the score was tied at 7 with two minutes to play in the first quarter. The next 10 minutes of the first half was all Wahoo as they went on a 21-1 run, to take a 28-8 lead. Greg Milliken had 12 first half points and Max Cook added 7. A Schuyler shot from 10 feet behind half court banked in at the buzzer to cut Wahoo’s lead to 28-11 at the break.
A trey from Schuyler’s Brian Zrust to open the second half cut Wahoo’s lead to 28-14, but Wahoo went on an 11-0 run to break the game wide open. A Sean Lindgren basket, followed by a Cook basket, a Milliken basket, and two more buckets from Cook, put the Warriors up 39-14. Wahoo would lead 50-18 heading into the final quarter.
“We started just a little slow, but I thought that after the first six minutes we were very sharp, and played good basketball, which is just what we needed heading into districts. Max and Greg played very well again for us. Josh Discher continues to get the tough rebounds for us, and Sean Lindgren played very well tonight as well,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Cook broke the single season steals record vs. Schuyler. Cook had 9 steals to push his season total to 121 steals. The record had been held by Mike Hancock, with 117 steals set in 1994.
“Max has quick hands and great instincts, and just gets his hands on so many passes. He does a great job out top on the 1-3-1,” Scheef added.
Cook had 21 points on 9-16 shooting from the field to go with his 9 steals. Milliken had 18 points and 7 boards. Discher had a team high 8 boards to go with 5 points. Christian Hohl and Lindgren added 6 points a piece.
Wahoo held Schuyler to 26.7 percent shooting from the field, while shooting 50 percent from the field themselves.
Wahoo improves to 18-5 and will face D.C. West on Tuesday in the first round of Sub-Districts at Blair High School. Schuyler falls to 3-17.

Wahoo extended the lead to 18 by halftime at 44-26. Wahoo outscored North Bend 13-5 in the third quarter to make it 57-31 after three quarters.
“After a very hard fought, emotional win on Monday at Logan View, I was worried about this game and having a letdown, but the kids came out and played very well early, and took control of the game early. It was a very solid win for us,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Milliken led Wahoo with 20 points on 7-11 shooting from the floor, and 5-5 from the line. Cook contributed 19 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor, 6 steals, and 6 assists. Josh Discher added 12 points, 9 boards, and 4 steals.

The Wahoo Warriors traveled to Logan View on Monday night to take on the Raiders and came home with an exciting 66-63 victory.
The game started very poorly for the Warriors, who were playing without point guard Max Cook, who was ill. Logan View jumped out to a 17-2 lead in the first 7 minutes of the game, as Wahoo turned the ball over 10 times in those first 7 minutes. A Greg Milliken jumper followed by a Casey Brown steal and feed to Cole Barry for a three-point play cut the lead to 10 at 17-7 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Warriors chipped away at the lead. A Barry trey to start the quarter, followed by a Brown basket, cut the lead to 17-12, and the Warriors would head to halftime down 30-25.
The Warriors put together a terrific third quarter. Another Barry trey, followed by a Josh Discher basket tied the game at 30. A Sean Lindgren basket, followed by back-to-back baskets from Jon Abbott gave the Warriors a 36-32 lead. Wahoo continued to build the lead, as a three-point play from Discher put the Warriors up 50-42. The quarter ended with Wahoo up 50-44.
A Milliken free throw was followed by a Barry steal, who fed Milliken for a lay up to give the Warriors their largest lead at 53-44. The Raiders would fight back, and a Robbie Wacker trey cut the Warrior lead to 55-53. A Discher three-point play pushed the lead back to 5 at 58-53 with 2:30 left. A Seth Schafersman trey cut the lead to 58-56. A Discher free throw on the next possession made it 59-56. Four straight free throws from the Raiders gave them the lead back at 60-59 with 1:30 left. A strong drive to the bucket from Milliken ended with a three-point play to give the Warriors a 62-60 lead with 45 seconds left. Following a pair of missed free throws from the Raiders, Abbott was fouled and converted both free throws with 27 seconds left to make it 64-60 with 27 seconds left. The Raiders’ Ryan Wacker hit a 30 foot shot with 4 seconds left to make it 64-63. Milliken was fouled on the inbounds and hit both free throws with 3.7 seconds left. A 25-foot shot at the buzzer was off the mark for the Raiders, and the Warriors escaped with the win.
“This was a character builder for our team. To not have Max tonight, and to get down 17-2 against a good team, and to battle back like we did showed a lot about the character and resiliency of our kids. I am really proud of the job they did battling back after getting in that kind of a hole. That is a very tough thing to do. Greg’s three-point play with 45 seconds left was a tremendous play by a Senior. Jon Abbott had two great hustle plays in the final minutes and hit two huge free throws with 27 seconds left. Josh Discher had a great night offensively and really picked up some of the scoring slack from Max. Cole Barry hit a couple of big three-point shots tonight at times that we really needed them, and Casey Brown made some big steals in the first half, when we were really struggling,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Milliken led the Warriors with 24 points, on 10-13 shooting from the line, and 9 rebounds. Discher had 16 points on 6-9 shooting from the field. Barry added 9 points, and Abbott contributed 8 points. Brown had 4 steals.
The Warriors improve to 16-5 and travel to North Bend tonight. Logan View drops to 16-4.

The Bluejays scored the first 4 points of the game, but the Warriors scored the next 10 points to take a 10-4 lead. Senior Greg Milliken had 8 of the first 10 Warrior points, and Wahoo would lead 13-6 after one quarter.
The Warriors stretched out the lead in the second quarter, and at the half lead 33-17. Milliken had 20 first half points, and Max Cook had 8 first half points.
Wahoo scored the first 6 points of the third quarter on two Josh Discher buckets and a Milliken jumper to make it 39-17. The lead was 41-19, when the Bluejays went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to to 41-29. A Discher free throw, a Casey Brown trey, and a Milliken steal and assist to Cook pushed the lead back to 17 at 47-30. A Christian Hohl trey ended the third quarter with the Warriors up 22 at 54-32.
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors could not put the Bluejays away. Ashland chipped away at the lead on some hot shooting by Senior Nick Pease, but the score never got closer than 13.
Wahoo was led by Milliken who had 29 points on 11-17 shooting from the field, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Max Cook added 12 points, 6 steals, and 5 assists. Discher added 7 points, and Sean Lindgren contributed 5 boards.
“Greg Millken had a great night shooting the ball for us. We did a better job of taking care of the ball tonight, as we had just 12 turnovers. Our transition defense was poor tonight, and I would have liked to have seen us been able to put them away in the fourth quarter, which we did not do,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
The Warriors improved their record to 15-5. With the win, the Warriors also captured the Capitol Conference regular season title. The Bluejays fell to 8-9. Wahoo will next travel to Logan View on Monday night in a rescheduled game.

The Wahoo Warriors traveled to Columbus on Tuesday night to take on the Columbus Scotus Shamrocks, and came home with a 64-40 victory.
The Warriors jumped out to a 10-4 lead, but Scotus scored the game’s next 12 points to take a 16-10 lead. The Warriors then went on a 10-0 run. Baskets from Christian Hohl and Greg Milliken were sandwiched by two treys from Max Cook, to put Wahoo up 20-16. A third trey from Cook and a three-point play from Milliken put Wahoo up 28-21 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Warriors scored the first four points off two Milliken baskets to push the lead to 32-21. Milliken had eight third quarter points as Wahoo slowly opened up the game. Wahoo led 44-28 after three quarters before going on to the 64-40 win.
“The first quarter and a half was a little shaky for us, but after that, we played pretty well. Our defensive pressure was very good, as we forced 34 turnovers and gave up just 40 points,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Two areas of concern are that we had 19 turnovers and got outrebounded by 6. Sean Lindgren played great on the offensive end, Max Cook really got us jump started with his three treys in the second quarter, and Greg Milliken had a great game for us.”
Milliken led the Warriors with 22 points, 6 boards, and 6 steals. Cook had 13 points and 7 steals. Lindgren had 13 points on 5-7 shooting from the floor. The Warriors were 15-17 (88.2%) from the foul line for the game.
Wahoo improves to 14-5 and will next travel to Ashland on Saturday to take on the Bluejays. Scotus drops to 7-11.

The Wahoo Warriors lost a heartbreaking overtime game to Grand Island Central Catholic 61-59 on Saturday night.
The Warriors led 12-11 after one quarter. The second quarter stayed close. A Josh Discher bucket put Wahoo up 28-25, and two Turner Fahey free throws closed the gap to 28-27 at halftime.
The Crusaders took the lead early on a Fahey trey, but Greg Milliken answered with a trey, followed by consecutive Cole Barry baskets, to end a 7-0 run to put Wahoo up 35-30. Two Discher free throws put Wahoo up 42-35. Following a Crusader trey, Max Cook hit a trey at the end of the third, to give Wahoo a 45-38 lead entering the fourth quarter.
A Milliken basket to start the fourth quarter gave Wahoo its largest lead of the game at 47-38. Four consecutive points cut the Warrior lead to 47-42, but Cook then hit two free throws to make it 49-42. Six consecutive points from the Crusaders cut the lead to 49-48. A Discher bucket made it 51-48. A Fahey basket cut the lead back to 51-50. A Cook basket made it 53-50 with 2:10 left. A Fahey trey tied the game at 53 with 1:45 left. Following a Warrior miss, Fahey hit two free throws with 1:02 left to put GICC up 55-53. Cook then followed up a missed trey and put in the rebound to tie it at 55 with 45 seconds left. The Crusaders then held it for the last shot, but a long Fahey trey was off the mark, and the game went to overtime.
GICC’s Fahey hit his 6th trey of the game to open the overtime period to put Wahoo up 58-55. A Milliken free throw cut the lead to 58-56. A Tyler O’Connor basket put GICC up 60-56. A Cook trey cut the lead to 60-59 with 50 seconds left. Fahey then hit one of two free throws with 12 seconds left to make it 61-59. The Warriors drove for the final shot, but it was blocked with 3 seconds left, and GICC held on for the win.
“It was a very, very tough game to lose. The kids worked so hard, and left it all on the floor, but GICC just made one more play than we did. We put ourselves in great position by getting a 9-point lead early in the fourth, but GICC is undefeated for a reason. They did not panic, and just kept knocking down 3 points shots. Turner Fahey is a great player, and we just could not get him slowed down in the second half. It was a great game, and a game that will help us for the stretch run,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Cook led the Warriors with 18 points. Milliken added 15 points, 9 boards, and 4 assists. Discher added 8 points and 11 boards. Fahey led GICC with 28 points.
Wahoo drops to 13-5 and will travel to Columbus Scotus on Tuesday. GICC raises its record to 20-0.

“After the first quarter, I thought we played very well. Greg had an outstanding night offensively for us. Max played great defensively out top for us, and did a great job of distributing the ball for us. Josh Discher played very well for us as well. It was good to be able to rest our kids a lot in the second half, as we have a very big match up tonight with an excellent GICC team,” Head Coach Kevin Scheef said.
Wahoo improves to 13-4, and faces 2nd ranked GICC on Saturday in the final home game of the season.

Wahoo jumped out to a 14-5 lead midway through the first quarter after a Casey Brown basket. Ashland then cut the lead to 14-10. A Brown tip-in at the buzzer gave Wahoo an 18-12 lead after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Warriors gradually extended the lead. Nine second-quarter points from Max Cook, and 7 from Greg Milliken gave the Warriors a 39-23 lead at halftime.
A 16-1 run to start the third quarter put the game away for the Warriors as they built the lead to 55-24. Milliken had 10 third quarter points, and Wahoo led 57-32 after three quarters, before going on to the 28-point win.

Wahoo outrebounded the Bluejays 37-30, and committed just 10 turnovers compared to 21 for Ashland.
“I was very pleased with how we played against Ashland as well as with the entire tournament. I think we put together three pretty good games this week. I think that we are steadily improving, and hope that we can continue to do that as we enter the stretch drive towards districts. Greg Milliken was really tough offensively tonight. Max has done a great job of running the team from the point guard spot. Josh Discher continues to do a great job on the glass for us. Sean Lindgren plays really good post defense for us. Cole Barry is a great role player for us, and has shot the ball well for us. Casey Brown has really picked up his level of play and is shooting the ball very well as of late. Jon Abbott gives us a lot of athleticism, and Christian Hohl has given us some good minutes off the bench,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Wahoo improves to 12-4, and will host Arlington on Friday, and GICC on Saturday in their final home games of the season.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Bennington Badgers 52-42 in the Conference Tournament Semi-Finals at Syracuse on Thursday night.
The first half was a defensive struggle. Wahoo led 9-6 after one quarter behind 5 Max Cook points.
In the second quarter, with Bennington in a box and one on Greg Milliken, Casey Brown got some open looks from the perimeter and made the most of them. Seven Brown points pushed the Warrior lead to 22-11 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Brown continued his hot shooting, adding two more perimeter jumpers, and Milliken scored 9 of his game-high 18 points to increase the Warrior lead to 40-24 after three quarters.
After a Cook free throw to open the fourth quarter, the Warriors had their biggest lead of the game at 41-24. Wahoo would fail to score on their next five possessions though, as Bennington scored the next 7 points to cut the lead to 41-31. A Milliken free throw, and bucket from Sean Lindgren gave the Warriors a 44-31 lead, and the lead would not be under 10 points the rest of the way.
“I thought our defense was really well tonight. To hold a good Bennington team to 11 first half points is an accomplishment. This was the second team to play some junk defense on us, and Casey Brown stepped up again and made some big shots from the perimeter to negate that strategy. We needed to be sharper in the fourth quarter, but fortunately, we had built up a big enough lead to withstand their run,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Milliken had 18 points on 6-10 shooting from the field, and 6-7 from the line, to go with a team-high 9 rebounds. Brown added 14 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor, and 6 boards. Cook added 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Discher added 5 boards, and 4 assists. Wahoo shot 44 percent from the floor, and held Bennington to 25 percent shooting from the field.
Wahoo improves to 11-4 and will face Ashland-Greenwood in the finals of the Conference tournament on Saturday in Syracuse.

Number one-rated Norfolk Catholic came to Wahoo on Friday night and went home with a 58-43 win. The Knights’ tandem of 6’7 towers, Ethan Brozek and Ben Uhing, were too much for the Warriors to overcome, as Norfolk Catholic held a 48-26 edge in rebounding.
Wahoo played a great first half. Greg Milliken scored the first four points of the game for Wahoo. A Josh Discher trey at the buzzer gave Wahoo a 13-11 lead after one quarter.
A Josh Discher basket to open the second quarter, put Wahoo up 15-11. Following a Knights basket, Cole Barry hit a trey to put Wahoo up 5 at 18-13. The Knights would then start to take control and went to halftime up 31-25.
A Cole Barry basket early in the third cut the Knights lead to 31-27. Wahoo had three lay up opportunities in its next three possessions, but could not get any to fall, each which would have cut the lead to two points. The Warriors were 2-13 from the field in the third quarter. A Uhing trey to end the quarter put Norfolk Catholic up 10 after three quarters at 41-31.
The Knights scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter to go up 45-31, and the Warriors would not threaten again.
Milliken and Barry led the Warriors with 11 points a piece. Max Cook added 8 points, 7 boards, and 5 assists.
“Our effort was much better tonight than on Tuesday. We competed hard, and played pretty well for one half. That stretch early in the third quarter was big. If we just could have gotten a couple of those shots to fall, and kept the game close, we might have had a chance in the fourth quarter. The other big area, other than the big rebounding advantage, they had was that we were 8-17 at the free throw line. Against a great time, your margin of error is very small and we needed to shoot the ball much better from the line and the 3-point line,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Wahoo drops to 9-4, while Norfolk Catholic improves to 13-0. The Warriors will host Fort Calhoun in the first round of the Capitol Conference Tournament on Monday night.

Wahoo led 15-13 after one quarter behind 7 first quarter points from Cole Barry.
The Warriors extended the lead to as much as 9 in the second quarter at 29-20 after a Max Cook trey. Wahoo led 33-28 at halftime.
The Warriors increased the lead to 11 at 43-32 after Jon Abbott’s third consecutive basket. Abbott scored all 8 of his points in the third quarter. Wahoo led 47-39 entering the fourth quarter.
Wahoo led 50-43 with 6 minutes remaining after a Cook basket. The Mustangs scored the next 6 points to close within one at 50-49 with 3:30 left. A Cook steal and lay up pushed the lead back to 3 at 52-49. Two Nick Christensen free throws made it 52-51. Following a Wahoo miss, the Mustangs’ Jake States hit a jumper to give the Mustangs their first lead of the game at 53-52 with 1:30 left. A Greg Milliken basket gave the Warriors the lead back at 54-53 with 45 seconds left. The Mustangs called time out with 18 seconds left. Buresh drove to the basket and scored with 3 seconds left. A desperation 3-pointer was off the mark for the Warriors.
“Give Raymond Central a lot of credit. They played very hard, and made plays down the stretch when they needed to. Their two sophomores, States and Christensen, played very well for them, and Buresh made a great play at the end to give them the win. It was a game where just about everything went wrong for us in the final 4 minutes of the game. We were 1-8 from the line in the fourth quarter. We either missed layups or got layups blocked. Central was just a step quicker on everything tonight than we were,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Cook had 13 points and 5 steals to lead the Warriors. Milliken contributed 12 points and 4 steals. Discher had 8 points and a team-high 11 boards.
Wahoo drops to 9-3 and will face top ranked Norfolk Catholic on Friday night at home. Raymond Central improves to 7-6.

The Warrior lead was still 11 at 38-27, when they went on an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 49-27. A Cole Barry trey, and Barry jumper, followed by a trey from Brown and another trey from Barry opened the game up for the Warriors. Wahoo led 51-32 after three quarters.
The Falcons made a little run to open the fourth quarter to cut the Warrior lead to 51-38. Two Discher free throws, another Discher bucket, a three-point play from Max Cook, and a steal and lay up from Cook, gave the Warriors a 60-38 lead with 5 minutes to play. The lead grew to 28 at 68-40, before ending with the 68-47 win.
“D.C. West played us a triangle and two, to try and take away Max and Greg. It did bother us for a while, but Cole Barry and Casey Brown made them pay for that strategy. Both guys hit some big shots from the perimeter,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Brown was 4-7 from 3-point range, and 7-10 overall from the field, for a career-high 18 points. Barry was 4-6 from 3-point range and 6-9 from the floor, overall for 16 points. The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Class B #7-rated Crete Cardinals on Saturday afternoon 47-45.
The game was tied at 9, when Max Cook hit a trey, Sean Lindgren hit two free throws, and Cole Barry hit a jumper, as Wahoo took a 16-9 lead. Crete’s Mitch Marvin hit a trey to close the scoring in the first quarter at 16-12.
The Warriors were still up 3 at 19-16 early in the second quarter, when they went on a 14-0 run. Greg Milliken had 8 points in the run, Lindgren hit two free throws, Christian Hohl hit a trey and Josh Discher added a free throw to put Wahoo up 33-16. Crete’s 6’9” Grant Harms hit a short jumper to cut the Warrior lead to 33-18 at halftime.
The points were hard to come by in the second half for the Warriors, as they scored just 7 in the third and fourth quarter. Crete closed the lead to 40-31 after three quarters.
Crete scored the first 6 points of the fourth quarter to cut the Warrior lead to 40-37 with 6 minutes to play. Two Discher free throws put Wahoo up 42-37. After a Crete basket, Cook hit a trey to extend the Warrior lead to 45-39. On the next possession, a Cook trey rimmed in and out.
The Warriors would then turn the ball over on their next 5 possessions. A Derek McGinnis trey cut the Warrior lead to 45-44 with 1:58 to play. Barry hit two huge free throws with 35 seconds left to make the lead 47-44. Crete’s Ben Muff hit one of two free throws with 27 seconds left to make it 47-45. The Warriors would miss the front end of a one and one with 23 seconds left. On Crete’s final possession, the Cardinals missed a trey with 4 seconds left. The Warriors’ Lindgren secured the biggest rebound of the night as the clock ran out to preserve the Warrior victory.
“We played a great first half. Things did not go as well for us in the second half, but Crete had a lot to do with that. They are very athletic, and with Harms, at 6’9, that is a very tough match up for us. The only disappointing part of the night was the five consecutive turnovers in the fourth quarter, but the kids kept their poise and made enough plays down the stretch to give us the win. Cole Barry proved to be clutch for us again, with his two big free throws at the end. Greg Milliken had a great game for us. Max Cook hit some big treys, and Josh Discher got some tough rebounds for us. It was a big win for us,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Milliken led Wahoo with 16 points, 8 boards, and 4 assists. Cook had 14 points on 4-9 shooting from behind the arc. Discher had 7 boards, and Barry added 7 points.
Wahoo improves to 8-2 and will face D.C. West on Saturday. Crete drops to 4-6.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated Capitol Conference rival Syracuse 69-50 on Friday night.
The Warriors got off to a very poor start. Syracuse jumped out to an 11-0 lead as Wahoo had turnovers on 4 of its first 5 possessions. A Casey Brown basket opened the scoring for Wahoo, but following a Garrett Sand three-point play, Syracuse led 14-2 midway through the first quarter. Wahoo then went on a 13-0 run on baskets from Max Cook, Sean Lindgren and two baskets a piece from Greg Milliken and Cole Barry, to take a 15-14 lead. The quarter ended with the score tied at 15.
Wahoo was able to open up a 7-point lead at 31-24 toward the end of the first half, but Syracuse responded by scoring the final 7 points of the half to tie the score at 31.
The score was still tied at 40 midway through the third quarter, when Wahoo was finally able to break things open with an 11-0 run. A Brown trey, a Josh Discher basket and three lay ups from Milliken gave Wahoo a 51-40 lead. Another three-point play from the Rockets’ Garrett Sand made the score 51-43 after 3 quarters.
The lead was still 8 at 56-48, when a Milliken basket, Cole Barry basket, and two free throws from Cook pushed the lead to 14 at 62-48. The Warriors would go on to the 19-point win, 69-50.
“The game could not have started out much worse for us than it did. But, we were able to overcome a very poor start. The second half we played much better, and it is always good to get a win over Syracuse, who has an excellent basketball tradition. Greg Milliken really got us going in the second half, and I thought Cole Barry and Sean Lindgren played well for us,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
The Warriors forced 29 Syracuse turnovers, compared to 17 Warrior turnovers, which was a big factor in the game. Milliken led Wahoo with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Cook added 14 points and 8 steals. Barry contributed 11 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists.
Wahoo improves to 7-2, and will face Crete on Saturday afternoon, while Syracuse drops to 4-7.

The Wahoo Warriors won a thriller over cross town rival Bishop Neumann 75-72 in overtime of the consolation game of the Holiday Tournament.
Cole Barry’s trey at the end of regulation and Max Cook’s free throws in overtime allowed the Warriors to escape with the win.
The first quarter belonged to Neumann, as they jumped out to a 16-6 lead. Wahoo struggled with Neumann’s pressure early, and back-to-back treys by Travis Ahrens gave Neumann the 10-point lead. A Max Cook steal and lay up cut the lead to 16-10. After a Neumann basket to make it 18-10, the Warriors’ Casey Brown hit a trey, then stole a Neumann pass and fed Max Cook for a lay up to cut the lead to 18-15 after one quarter.
A Brown putback cut the Neumann lead to 18-17. Two Sean Lindgren free throws, another Lindgren bucket, a steal and lay up from Josh Discher followed by a free throw from Discher put Wahoo up 24-18 and capped a 14-0 run. The half ended with the score tied at 30.
Barry’s trey to start the third quarter put Wahoo up 33-30. The Warriors led 37-35, when a Discher bucket and back-to-back buckets from Greg Milliken gave the Warriors the biggest lead of the game at 43-35. Seven straight Neumann points cut the lead back to 43-42. Two Max Cook free throws tied the game up at 49 after three quarters.
Neumann opened up a 58-53 lead midway through the fourth quarter. A Discher basket cut the lead to 58-55 with 3 minutes to go. A Cook steal and two Milliken free throws made it 58-57. Three free throws from Cole Chvatal extended the Cavalier lead to 61-57. A Discher basket made it 61-59 with a minute left. Another Chvatal free throw made it 62-59.
Milliken was fouled and knocked down both free throws with 42 seconds left to cut the lead to 62-61. Following a Cavalier miss, the Warriors’ Barry got open in the corner and knocked down a trey with 20 seconds left to give the Warriors a 64-62 lead. The Cavaliers missed a trey from the corner, but Bret Pospisil’s rebound and putback with 10 seconds left tied the game at 64. The Warriors turned the ball over with 2 seconds left, and a half-court shot from Neumann was off the mark and the game went to overtime.
In overtime, the Warriors scored first on a driving lay up by Discher to put them up 66-64. Two free throws from Pospisil tied the game up at 66. Cook hit 5 of 6 free throws on the next 3 Warrior possessions to give the Warriors a 71-66 lead. A Travis Ahrens jumper cut the lead to 71-68, but free throws from Cook and Milliken iced the victory for the Warriors.
“This was a big win for us. Neumann had us on the ropes early, and again midway through the fourth quarter, but I can’t say enough about the composure that our kids showed. They did not get shook, just kept playing hard and made the plays that we needed to get the job done. Max Cook and Greg Milliken have carried us offensively all year, and did so again today, but I thought that the efforts that we got from the rest of our kids was what allowed us to get the job done today. Cole Barry’s trey at the end of regulation was huge. Casey Brown played great off the bench for us today, and really got us started towards the end of the first quarter. Sean Lindgren played really well and made a couple of big hustle plays. Christian Hohl played very well for us, and Josh Discher came up huge today. His driving lay up to start overtime was a big, big play,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Milliken’s 20 points and 6 boards led the Warriors, while Cook contributed 18 points and 5 assists. Discher added 13 points and 6 boards. Barry and Lindgren contributed 8 a piece. The Cavaliers were 8-16 from the 3 points line, but the Warriors made up the difference at the free throw line going 24-37.
Wahoo improves to 6-2 and will next face Syracuse at home a week from Friday.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Elkhorn South Storm 61-40 in the first round of the Holiday Tournament.
The Storm jumped out to an 11-2 lead as they forced turnovers on the Warriors’ first 3 possessions. South led 15-8 after one quarter behind 9 first quarter points from Brennan Nowak.
In the second quarter, South led 29-17 with two minutes to go. Greg Milliken hit back-to-back treys to cut South’s lead to 29-23 at halftime.
The Storm extended the lead to 49-33 at the end of 3.
Wahoo scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter on a putback from Cole Barry and a Max Cook lay up, but the Storm would go on a 10-0 run to ice the game and win 61-40.
“Give Elkhorn South a lot of credit. They are long and athletic. They moved the ball very well and picked apart our 1-3-1. They have a couple of terrific shooters in Keithen Karn and Brennan Nowak, and their 6’5 kid inside caused us some problems with his defense and shot blocking. We shot 27 percent from the field and got out-rebounded by 9, and you are not going to win games with those stats,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Milliken led the Warriors with 21 points on 4-6 shooting from behind the arc and 4 steals. Cook had a team-high 6 boards and 8 points. Brennan Nowak had 20 points to lead South and Keithan Karn added 19.
South improves to 4-3 and will face Lincoln Christian in the finals of the Holiday Tournament. Wahoo drops to 5-2 and will face Bishop Neumann in the consolation game.

The Wahoo Warriors traveled to Centennial on Saturday night and defeated the Broncos 66-44.
The Warriors jumped on Centennial early. Two straight baskets from Sean Lindgren started Wahoo on an 8-0 run to begin the game. Wahoo led 14-3 after one quarter.
Over the next two quarters, the teams would pretty much trade baskets. Wahoo led 26-11 at halftime, and 38-24 after three quarters.
After two Josh Discher free throws to start the fourth quarter to put Wahoo up 40-24, Centennial would make a run. Three consecutive treys by the Broncos cut the Wahoo lead to 42-33 with 6 minutes to play. Wahoo still led 45-35, when a Max Cook basket and two Greg Millken free throws extended the lead to 49-35. Wahoo would hit 16 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
“After playing really good basketball last night, we were not very sharp tonight. We were not flying around defensively, or moving sharply on offense. But, it was still a positive that we were able to get a win on a night that we were not real sharp. Josh Discher did a great job on the glass for us,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Greg Milliken led Wahoo with 23 points and 5 steals. Max Cook had 13 points, 7 steals, and 5 assists. Josh Discher added 12 points and 12 boards.
Wahoo was out-rebounded by the Broncos 32-26, but committed just 8 turnovers compared to 19 for Centennial. Wahoo was just 1 of 11 from behind the arc, but was 20-32 from 3-point range.
Wahoo is now off until the Holiday Tourney when they will host Elkhorn South on the 28th in the first round.

Wahoo jumped out to a big lead early at 16-4, and led at the quarter 20-11 behind 9 first quarter points from Greg Milliken.
The Pioneers scored the first 5 points of the second quarter to cut the lead to 20-16. From that point on, it was all Warriors. Wahoo went on a 19-0 run to extend the lead to 39-16. Max Cook hit five treys in the quarter, and scored 21 of the Warriors 27 second quarter points. Wahoo lead by 28 at 47-19 at halftime.
Wahoo scored the first 17 points of the third quarter to extend the lead to 64-19. The third quarter ended with Wahoo up 64-21. Reserves would play the fourth quarter and finish up the 86-32 win.
“I was very pleased with how we played tonight. We played very well early, and then hit about a three-minute stretch in which we did not play well and Calhoun was able to cut the lead to 4. From that point on, we played really good basketball,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Max had an incredible second quarter shooting the ball and played great defense out top for us. Greg Milliken got us off to a great start. He is so strong around the basket, that not many people can stop him down low. I am very happy with how we are improving each time out.”
Cook led Wahoo with 28 points on 5-6 shooting from behind the arc. Cook added 9 steals and 4 assists. Milliken had 19 points. Tyler Kavan scored 10 fourth quarter points. Cole Barry had 8 points and 7 rebounds. Sean Lindgren added 8 boards.
The Warriors forced 31 Pioneer turnovers and out-rebounded them 39-23.

The Wahoo Warriors traveled to West Point to take on the Cadets on Tuesday night and came away with an 80-40 victory.
The Warriors jumped out to a 14-2 lead early in the game and led 19-11 after one quarter.
Wahoo increased the lead to 41-26 by halftime. Max Cook scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half.
West Point cut the Warrior lead to 41-30 about 2 minutes into the third quarter. A Greg Milliken basket, two Josh Discher free throws and two more Milliken baskets keyed an 11-0 run that put Wahoo up 52-30, and was part of a 28-4 run that took the 41-30 lead to 69-34 over an 8-minute stretch. Reserves played the rest of the way in the 80-40 win.
Milliken led the way with 21 points, 6 boards and 4 steals. Cook contributed 17 points, 7 steals and 5 boards. Discher had 12 points and 8 boards. Jon Abbott added 10 points.
The Warriors forced 30 Cadet turnovers, and shot 50 percent from the field. Wahoo also won the rebounding battle 40-23.
“I thought our defense was better tonight. Giving up 40 points sure beats giving up 77. Missed free throws and lay ups kept us from taking control of the game earlier, but I thought we played a very solid second half,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We had 2 players out with illness in Sean Lindgren and Justin Lewandowski, but I thought we had some other kids really step up. Jon Abbott played very well off the bench for us, as did Casey Brown.”
Wahoo improves to 3-1, and will host Fort Calhoun on Friday, before traveling to Centennial on Saturday in the final games before the Holiday Tournament.

The Wahoo Warriors were led by a combined 52 points from Senior Greg Milliken and Junior Max Cook in an 88-77 win over David City.
Cook broke a school record with 11 steals in the win. Cook also scored 24 points and contributed 6 assists. Milliken had a game high 28 points and added 5 assists.
The Warriors opened up a 20-14 lead after one quarter behind 8 first quarter points from both Milliken and Cook.
Wahoo extended the lead to 15 at the halftime break at 45-30. Wahoo still led by 14 at 54-40 midway through the quarter, when they went on a 9-0 capped by two consecutive steals and lay ups from Cook to make it 63-40 with 2 minutes left in the period. From that point on, the Warriors would struggle to put the Scouts away. A trey at the buzzer from Austin Havlena cut the Warrior lead to 65-49 after three quarters.
Wahoo still led by 16 at 82-66 with about 3 minutes left. David city hit 3 consecutive treys to cut the lead to 84-75 with a minute left, but did not seriously threaten in the final minute.
“Offensively, I was very pleased. When you score 88 points and shoot 64 percent from the field, there is a lot to be excited about. We attacked the basket, and took high percentage shots. Greg did a great job of making good cuts to the basket and posting up a smaller opponent. Max was tremendous out top on our 1-3-1. Eleven steals is a heck of an effort on the defensive end. Josh Discher did a great job on the glass for us tonight, and Justin Lewandowski and Cole Barry played quite well for us,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “I was disappointed that we did not play better defense. Seventy-seven points is way too many to give up. I thought our sense of urgency was gone in the second half. We did not hustle back on defense and did not close out hard enough on their shooters in the second half. We needed to be able to close them out, and we did not do it.”
Milliken was 12-20 from the field for his 28 points. Cook was 10-15 from the field for his 24 points. Cole Barry added 10 points. Josh Discher led Wahoo with 9 boards.
Wahoo improves to 2-1 and will travel to Logan View on Saturday to take on the Raiders. David City drops to 2-1.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Seward Bluejays 56-51 on Saturday night in their home opener.
The game was close throughout. Wahoo led 12-11 after one quarter. Following 5 straight points from Max Cook, the Warriors opened up a 19-14 lead. Wahoo would go on a dry spell though, as Seward went on a 10-0 run to take a 24-19 lead. The Warriors would battle back and following two free throws from Christian Hohl, the game was tied 26 at halftime.
The Warriors opened up a 7-point lead at 37-30 after a Jon Abbott basket. The Bluejays would make a 10-2 run to end the quarter to lead 40-39 entering the fourth quarter.
The Bluejays increased their lead to 47-41 following a Chase Wurdeman basket. The Jays still led 50-44 with 2:20 left, when Josh Discher came up with a steal and fed Abbott to cut the lead to 50-46. Two Bluejay free throws made it 52-46. A Cole Barry free throw followed by a Barry steal and Abbott putback made it 52-49 with 1:11 left. A Discher steal and lay up cut the lead to 52-51 with 1:00 left. Two Micah Kohlwey free throws made it 54-51 with 22 seconds left. A Warrior turnover and two more free throws from Wurdeman with 6 seconds left sealed the Bluejay win. The Warriors were without their two leading scorers for the last 3 minutes as both Greg Milliken and Cook fouled out.
Cook led the Warriors with 12 points and Milliken added 10. Abbott contributed 9 points. Discher had 6 boards, 4 assists and 4 steals.
The Warriors were outrebounded by 4 (24-20) for the second night in a row. Wahoo was 0-6 from 3-point range, and shot just 39 percent from the floor.
“This was a disappointing game to lose. We had our chances, and just did not get the job done. We did not make enough plays in the fourth quarter. We had some bad unforced turnovers during crunch time and missed some big free throws. We have to do a better job on the glass. We cannot continue to get outrebounded each night,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
The loss dropped Wahoo to 1-1. Seward improved to 2-0. The Warriors host David City on Tuesday night.

Two Jon Abbott baskets and solid free throw shooting down the stretch clinched the win for the Warriors.
“It was a very solid first game for us. Our kids played hard, and answered the challenge when Bennington made their run late in the third quarter. Greg hit a couple of big three’s for us in the second half. Max Cook played terrific defense out top on the 1-3-1. Sean Lindgren played really well for us tonight, and Jon Abbott gave us some quality minutes off the bench. We do have to do a better job on the glass and take better care of the ball,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Greg Milliken led Wahoo with 22 points and 6 boards. Max Cook added 13 points and 6 steals. Sean Lindgren contributed 13 points and 5 boards. Josh Discher led Wahoo on the glass with 7 boards and added 9 points.
