The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Pierce Bluejays 53-45 in the District Final at Wahoo on Saturday.
Wahoo led 6-4 midway through the first period, but a 9-0 run by Pierce to end the quarter put the Bluejays up 13-6 after one quarter.
Pierce went to the halftime break up 5, at 23-18.
The third quarter saw Pierce open up a 15-point lead at 38-23. A bucket by Myles Simon and a trey by Owen Hancock cut the lead to 38-28 after three.
Wahoo cut the lead to four at 49-45 after a Simon bucket with 1:05 left, but the Warriors would not get any closer as the Bluejays wrapped up the win at the free throw line.
“We just did not play very well today,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Give Pierce a lot of credit for that. They are very athletic and defended us well, and beat us badly on the glass. We just could never find a rhythm offensively.”
Hancock led the Warriors with 14 points. Trevor Kasischke added 11, and Marcus Glock had 10. Triston Keeney had 6 assists, and Hancock, Simon, and Garrett Grandgenett each had 5 boards.
Wahoo was outrebounded 36-21 and shot just 32.6% from the field.
Wahoo ended its season at 18-7. Pierce improved to 21-4 and advances to the State Tournament.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the North Bend Tigers 78-66 on Tuesday night in the Subdistrict Final played at Wahoo.
North Bend jumped on Wahoo early and led 15-5 midway through the first quarter. Back-to-back lay ups from Myles Simon cut the Tiger lead to 15-9, but after North Bend banked in a shot from over half court at the buzzer, the Tigers led 29-16 after one.
North Bend scored the first points of the second quarter to go up 31-16. Wahoo then got things rolling and went on a 22-2 run to go up 38-33 late in the second quarter. The teams went into halftime with Wahoo up 38-37.
The Warriors went on another 10-2 run to open the third quarter to increase the lead to 48-39. After three quarters, Wahoo led 58-52.
A Trevor Kasischke bucket made it 60-52 to start the fourth quarter. Moments later an Owen Hancock bucket made it 62-52. The lead was 66-60, with three minutes left, when Marcus Glock nailed a trey to make it 69-60. The Warriors would knock down free throws to seal the 78-66 win.
“We got off to a really poor start, but give North Bend a lot of credit for that,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Though we got down by 15, I was really proud of our kids for keeping their poise and fighting back. They showed a ton of character. This was a really nice win for us over a really good team.”
Kasischke and Hancock led four Warriors in double figures with 18 points. Simon and Glock chipped in with 14 a piece. Garrett Grandgenett and Triston Keeney led Wahoo with 7 boards. Keeney also had 6 steals.
Wahoo improved to 18-6 and will host Pierce on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. North Bend fell to 18-5.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Bishop Neumann Cavaliers 68-49 in the second round of Subdistricts at home on Tuesday night.
The Warriors got off to a great start, as they scored the first 25 points of the game and led 29-7 after one quarter. Trevor Kasischke hit three treys and had 14 first-quarter points.
Wahoo extended the lead to 43-18 at halftime, and the lead grew to 64-27 in the third quarter, before reserves finished the game.
“It was good to see us get off to a great start. I thought our ball movement was really good, and I thought our energy on the defensive end was really high,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Kasischke led Wahoo with 22 points on 5-8 shooting from behind the arc to go with 4 steals. Myles Simon had 7 boards and 4 assists. Triston Keeney had 5 assists.
Wahoo forced 26 Neumann turnovers compared to just 13 for the Warriors. Wahoo was 11-27 from behind the arc.
Wahoo improved to 17-6 and will face North Bend tomorrow night in Wahoo in the Subdistrict Final. Bishop Neumann ends its season at 7-17.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the #2-ranked team in Class B, the Norris Titans, 56-49 on Friday night at Norris.
Norris jumped out to the early lead of 11-3 midway through the first period. A Trevor Kasischke bucket cut the lead to 12-9, but the Titans would head to the second period with a 17-9 lead.
An Owen Hancock layup cut the Titan lead to 18-16 midway through the second period. Norris maintained the lead 24-20 at the half.
Norris extended its lead to 33-24 in the third quarter. A Triston Keeney trey and a Hancock bucket cut the lead to 33-29. Norris would lead 38-34 heading into the fourth quarter.
A Kasischke trey cut the Titan lead to 43-39 midway through the fourth quarter. The Warriors again cut the lead to four at 46-42 on a Hancock bucket. Wahoo got the steal on the next possession and a chance to cut the lead to two, but the Warriors turned it over, and a three-point play from Norris pushed the lead to 7 at 49-42, and Wahoo would get no closer the rest of the way.
“I was proud of our kids’ efforts,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We went toe to toe with Norris for most of the game. Getting off to a better start and not playing from behind throughout the game would have been huge. There were a lot of positives to take away though.”
Wahoo shot just 32.7% for the game compared to 51.4% for Norris, and was out-rebounded by 9. Wahoo forced 18 Titan turnovers compared to just 8 for Wahoo.
Kasischke led Wahoo with 21 points. Hancock added 11 points and 8 boards. Garrett Grandgenett had 9 points and 5 boards.
Wahoo fell to 16-6 and will next play in the Subdistricts on Tuesday night against the winner of Monday night’s match up between Bishop Neumann and David City. Norris improved to 16-2.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Beatrice Orangemen 63-62 on a shot in the lane with 3.6 seconds left on Tuesday in Beatrice.
The Warriors led 14-9 late in the first after an Owen Hancock trey. Trevor Kasischke had 8 of the first 11 points for the Warriors, and Marcus Glock added a trey as well. Wahoo held the lead at 18-15 after one quarter.
Wahoo led 24-17 after a Myles Simon layup and a free throw from Glock. The Orangemen would get hot, though, and took a 34-29 lead to halftime.
After a Beatrice bucket to open the third quarter, Wahoo went on a 9-0 run. Two treys from Hancock and a Kasischke trey put Wahoo up 38-36. Beatrice would again go on a run to take a 52-46 lead into the fourth quarter.
Wahoo countered with a 12-0 run to open the fourth. Back-to-back buckets from Kasischke, a trey from Glock, and four points from Simon put Wahoo up 58-52 with 2:30 left.
A Beatrice trey cut the lead to 58-55. Two Triston Keeney free throws made it 60-55 with 1:52 left. Another trey from the Orangemen made it 60-58. Two Simon free throws made it 62-58 with 50 seconds left. A Beatrice trey made it 62-61 with 39 seconds left. Following a controversial no call on a trip that turned into a traveling call against the Warriors, Beatrice hit a drive into the lane with 3.6 seconds left. The Warriors missed a three at the buzzer and Beatrice escaped with the win.
“It was a really tough one to lose,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We just did not rebound well enough in the last three minutes of the game. We gave them second chance points off of missed threes late that came back to bite us. We did a lot of good things tonight, just not enough to close out the win.”
Kasischke led the Warriors with 18 points on 4-8 shooting from behind the arc. Owen Hancock added 14 points on 4-7 shooting from behind the arc. Simon added 13 points on 7-7 shooting from the line, and 3-3 from the field for 13 points and 4 steals.
Wahoo fell to 16-5, while Beatrice improved to 14-5. Wahoo will travel to Norris on Friday in the regular season finale.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the D.C. West Falcons 80-67 on Saturday in Wahoo.
Wahoo led 11-10, when Triston Keeney made a three-point play, followed by a layup and free throw from Myles Simon, and a free throw from Marcus Glock to put Wahoo up 18-10. Wahoo lead 23-16 after one quarter.
Two Keeney free throws and a Garrett Grangenett bucket put Wahoo up 27-16. The Warriors still led 38-28 after a Trevor Kasischke trey, but D.C. West would then score the next seven points of the half to cut the lead to 38-35 at halftime.
A Keeney bucket to open the second half put Wahoo up 40-35, but D.C. West then went on an 8-0 run to take a 43-40 lead. A three-point play from Glock, followed by six straight Kasischke points, put Wahoo back up at 49-45.
D.C. West cut the Warrior lead to 50-47, but a 7-1 run put Wahoo up 57-48. A Kasischke layup, a Keeney trey, and a Glock bucket put Wahoo up by nine. The Warriors would head to the fourth quarter with a 64-52 lead.
D.C. West cut the lead to 65-55, but two Glock free throws and a Kasischke bucket put Wahoo up 69-55, and the Warriors would not be threatened the rest of the way.
“We were not always real sharp tonight, but I liked the way we responded after they took the three-point lead in the third quarter. We did a pretty good job on the glass, and took pretty good care of the ball,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Kasischke led Wahoo with 24 points, 6 boards, and 7 steals. Keeney had 20 points on 6-6 shooting from the field and 5-6 shooting from the line, to go with7 boards, and 4 assists. Glock added 13 points. Owen Hancock added 8 points, 5 boards, and 6 assists. Grandgenett had a season-high 14 rebounds.
Wahoo shot just 37.5% from the field, compared to 51.2% for D.C. West, but outrebounded the Falcons 41-32 and had just 13 turnovers, compared to 20 for D.C. West.
Wahoo improved to 16-4 and will travel to Beatrice on Tuesday. D.C. West fell to 13-7.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Plattsmouth Blue Devils 76-32 on Senior Night, on Tuesday night in Wahoo.
Wahoo jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game, and led 25-7 after one quarter. The Warriors increased the lead to 46-20 at halftime, and led 66-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
“I thought we shared and moved the ball about as well as we have all year. That was really good to see. It was a good all-around game for us. It was very nice to see us play well on Senior Night,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Marcus Glock led four Warriors in double figures with 16 points on 3-5 shooting from behind the arc. Garrett Grandgenett added 12 points and 8 boards. Trevor Kasischke had 11 points and 7 boards. Triston Keeney contributed 10 points, 8 steals, and 4 assists. Myles Simon added 9 points. Owen Hancock had 8 boards.
Wahoo outrebounded Plattsmouth 42-18 and forced 23 Blue Devil turnovers.
The Warriors moved to 15-4 and will host D.C. West on Saturday afternoon. Plattsmouth fell to 6-14.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Columbus Scotus Shamrocks 73-56 on Tuesday night in Columbus.
The Warriors led 16-14 after one quarter and 38-32 at halftime.
The Shamrocks battled back in the third quarter and cut the lead to 43-42 with 3:35 remaining. Two Myles Simon free throws and an Owen Hancock bucket pushed the lead back to 47-42. The Warriors were up 49-44, when five consecutive points from Trevor Kasischke made the lead 10 at 54-44. A Triston Keeney trey to end the quarter, put Wahoo up 57-46 after three.
Another Keeney trey and two Kasischke free throws put Wahoo up 62-46, and the Warriors would go on to claim the 73-56 win.
“We were not very sharp for two and a half quarters,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We missed a lot of point blank shots around the rim and were uncharacteristically bad from the free throw line. It was good to finally see us hit some shots and put some good possessions together in the last quarter and a half.”
Kasischke led Wahoo with 21 points on 13-15 shooting from the foul line to go with 6 steals. Marcus Glock added 16 points on 4-7 from behind the arc and 4 assists. Hancock had 9 points and 10 boards. Keeney added 9 points and 4 assists. Simon added 9 points and 5 steals, and Garrett Grandgenett added 9 points and 7 boards.
Glock missed a free throw last night to end his consecutive free throw streak at 45. He is now tied for sixth all-time in the state of Nebraska with current Harlem Globetrotter player, and part-time Wahoo substitute teacher, Trey Bardsley from Beatrice.
Wahoo outrebounded Scotus 27-20 and forced 23 Shamrock turnovers, while committing just 14.
The Warriors improved to 14-4 and will host Plattsmouth on Thursday night. Columbus Scotus dropped to 6-13.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Platteview Trojans 70-68 in an exciting game on Tuesday night at Platteview.
Platteview came out on fire again, just as they did on Saturday, and hit their first four treys of the night to go up 12-0 to start the game. The Trojans lead 18-8 after one quarter.
Platteview maintained the lead throughout the second quarter and went to the halftime break up 32-23.
The third quarter would turn around for the Warriors. After Platteview scored to make it 43-31, Triston Keeney scored the next 8 points for the Warriors on back-to-back treys, followed by a steal and two free throws, to cut the lead to 43-39.
After a Trojan free throw, Trevor Kasischke hit back-to-back treys to put Wahoo up 45-44. After a Trojan basket, Marcus Glock hit a trey and Myles Simon scored off of an offensive rebound to put Wahoo up 50-46 after three quarters.
Platteview scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to tie the game up at 50. A Kasischke bucket, two Glock free throws, An Owen Hancock put back, and a Garrett Grandgenett bucket put Wahoo up 58-50 with 5:00 minutes to play.
Back-to-back baskets from Platteview cut the lead to 58-55. A Glock trey made it 61-55. After the Trojans cut the lead to 61-58, two more Glock free throws, and two free throws from Simon, put Wahoo up 65-58 with 2:00 minutes left.
Platteview scored the next five points to make it 65-63, with 1:30 left. Two Glock free throws made it 67-63 with 1:20 left. Platteview scored with 1:11 left to make it 67-65. A Simon free throw made it 68-65 with 1:00 minute left. Platteview then hit a trey to tie it up at 68 with 50 seconds left.
Kasischke hit a free throw with 27 seconds left to make it 69-68. Following a missed Platteview trey, Simon hit a free throw to put Wahoo up 70-68 with 4.3 seconds left. The Trojans then missed a three at the buzzer to allow the Warriors to escape with the hard-fought 70-68 win.
“The first three minutes were a nightmarish repeat of Saturday’s game,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “I was really proud of our team for the resolve and composure that they showed after that. We slowly chipped away at them and were able to get some momentum in the third quarter to turn the game around. I thought our kids played really hard and played with great poise, and was very proud of them for finding a way to win a really tough game against a really good team.”
Kasischke led the Warriors with 20 points and 7 boards. Glock had 18 points on 8-8 shooting from the free throw line. Hancock added 9 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists. Keeney added 8 points and 5 rebounds. Grandgenett had 8 boards, and Simon added 6 boards.
The Warriors improved to 13-4, while Platteview dropped to 14-4. Wahoo will host Beatrice on Saturday.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Platteview Trojans 83-65 on Saturday night in Wahoo, in the Trailblazer Conference Tournament Finals.
The Trojans jumped out to an early 10-2 lead on the Warriors behind three treys. Wahoo cut the lead to 13-10 after a Myles Simon lay up. Wahoo trailed 24-17 after one period.
In the second quarter, Platteview pushed the lead to 10 at 38-28. A Trevor Kasischke bucket and two Marcus Glock free throws cut the lead to 38-32 at halftime.
Wahoo still trailed 41-35 early in the third, when Platteview broke the game open. An 11-0 run pushed the lead to 52-35, and the Warriors would not get closer than 15 the rest of the way. Platteview connected on 5-7 from behind the arc in the third quarter.
“We got off to a poor start early,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “They hit some threes and we forced some bad shots and bad passes. We were playing from behind all night, and things got away from us in the third quarter.”
“Give Platteview credit for shooting the ball very well. We get to play them again in three days, and hopefully we will be much better then, than we were tonight,” Scheef added.
The Warriors had just 7 assists for the night, compared to 22 for Platteview. The Trojans were 16-28 from behind the arc, for 57.1% shooting, while Wahoo was 3-14, 21.4%.
Platteview improved to 14-3, while Wahoo dropped to 12-4. Wahoo will travel to Platteview on Tuesday for a rematch from a previously postponed game.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Plattsmouth Blue Devils 83-50 on Thursday night in Wahoo, in the Trailblazer Conference Tournament Semifinals.
The Warriors jumped out to a 10-0 lead to open the game, and led 28-11 after one quarter. Garrett Grandgenett hit three first-quarter treys and scored 13 points in the first quarter.
Wahoo scored the first 8 points of the second quarter to increase the lead to 36-11 and led 45-20 at the halftime break. Wahoo would extend the lead to 71-38 after three quarters.
“I thought we played really well tonight. We moved the ball and shared it well. Our defense was good, and we forced a lot of turnovers, which we need to do to be successful,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Grandgenett and Owen Hancock led five Warriors in double figures with 19 points apiece. Hancock had a double-double with 11 rebounds. Trevor Kasischke added 13 points, 7 steals, and 5 assists. Myles Simon added 12 points and 4 assists. Marcus Glock added 10 points and 4 steals. Triston Keeney added 5 assists.
Wahoo forced 29 Blue Devil turnovers, while committing just 10 themselves.
Wahoo improved to 12-3 and will face Platteview on Saturday at home in the first Trailblazer Conference Tournament Championship. Plattsmouth fell to 6-9.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Waverly Vikings 60-58 on Thursday night in Wahoo.
The Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 lead, behind treys from Trevor Kasischke and Marcus Glock. Waverly would come back and take a 16-15 lead after the first quarter.
Waverly led 19-17 in the second, when the Warriors went on a 9-0 run. Two Kamron Kasischke free throws, and seven straight points from Kasischke, put Wahoo up 26-19. Waverly cut the lead back to 26-24, but two Glock free throws and another Kasischke bucket put the Warriors up 30-24 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Warriors were able to gradually stretch out their lead. Back-to-back treys from Owen Hancock and Kasischke put the Warriors up 15 at 46-31 with 2:30 left in the third. Waverly was able to cut the lead to 48-40 after three.
A Waverly trey to start the fourth cut the lead to 48-43. A Kasischke bucket made it 50-43. After a Viking free throw, a Hancock trey made it 53-44. Waverly then went on a 9-0 run capped by a trey to tie it up at 53 with 2:40 left. A Kasischke bucket put the Warriors back up 55-53. A Garrett Grandgenett free throw made it 56-53 with 1:45 left.
Two free throws and a Waverly bucket put the Vikings up 57-56 with 55 seconds left. A Hancock bucket gave the Warriors the lead back at 58-57 with 45 seconds left, but the Vikings answered with a jumper with 17 seconds left to take a 59-58 lead. A Warrior shot in the lane was blocked with 4 seconds left. Waverly added a free throw with 1.7 seconds left and Wahoo was not able to get a shot off at the buzzer.
“This was a tough one to lose,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “You just can’t let a 15-point lead slip away. I was really proud of our kids and how they played for the first 22 minutes of the game. Give Waverly credit. They made the plays that they needed to down the stretch. We just have to learn from this and to be able to close out a tough win next time.”
Kasischke led the Warriors with 26 points on 11-14 shooting from the field, including 4-5 from three-point range. Hancock added 10 points on 2-5 from beyond the three-point line to go with 10 boards. Grandgenett added 8 points and 7 boards, and Glock added 8 points.
Wahoo dropped to 11-3, while Waverly improved to 9-1. The Warriors will receive a first round bye in the Conference Tournament next week, and play the winner of Plattsmouth and Nebraska City in the Semifinals.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Ralston Rams 79-75 on Tuesday night in Trailblazer Conference action in Ralston.
Ralston jumped out to a 14-9 lead midway through the first quarter. The Warriors came back and took a 22-19 lead into the second quarter. Garrett Grandgenett had 9 first quarter points.
The score was tied at 31 late in the second quarter, but two Myles Simon free throws, a trey from Owen Hancock and another free throw from Simon put Wahoo up 37-31 at the break.
Wahoo was able to extend the lead in the third quarter, and led 55-45 after three quarters.
A lay up from Marcus Glock and a bucket from Trevor Kasischke gave Wahoo its largest lead at 59-45. A 7-0 run from Ralston cut the lead to 59-52. The lead was down to 5 at 62-57 with 3:30 left, but a three-point play from Glock, followed by a three-point play from Hancock pushed the lead back to 68-57 with 2:30 left.
The lead was 73-66 with a minute left, but two Grandgenett free throws made it 75-66. A three from Ralston cut the lead to 75-69 with 30 seconds left. Free throws from Triston Keeney and Kasischke closed out the Warrior victory.
“We will always take the win, but we did not defend or play like we needed to tonight,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We will have to be much better tomorrow night against Waverly.”
Kasischke led the Warriors with 22 points on 13-15 shooting from the foul line to go with 6 boards. Grandgenett had 18 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor, and 4-4 from the line to go with 5 boards. Hancock added 14 points on 6-10 shooting. Simon added 11 points and 7 boards. Glock added 9 points on 5-5 from the line. Keeney added 7 assists and 5 steals.
Wahoo forced 20 Ralston turnovers while committing just 10. Wahoo was 29-33 (87.9%) from the free throw line.
Wahoo improved to 11-2, while Ralston dropped to 2-9. The Warriors will host Waverly on Thursday night.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Blair Bears 67-60 on Tuesday night in Blair.
Blair had an early lead of 16-13 late in the first quarter. Back-to-back buckets from Garrett Grandgenett gave the Warriors a 17-16 lead after one.
The game stayed close throughout the second quarter. An Owen Hancock jumper at the end of the half gave Wahoo a 32-28 halftime lead.
A trey from Blair cut the Warrior lead to 32-31 to open the third quarter. A trey from Hancock, a three-point play from Trevor Kasischke, a basket from Grandgenett, and two free throws from Grandgenett completed a 10-0 run and put the Warriors up 42-31. A Hancock put-back at the end of the quarter put Wahoo up 48-36 after three.
Two Grandgenett free throws gave Wahoo its largest lead at 50-36. The Bears would cut the lead to 6 at 52-46. Two Marcus Glock free throws, three Kasischke free throws, and a Grandgenett bucket pushed the Warrior lead back to 59-46, and the Warriors went on to the 67-60 win.
“This was a solid win over a good Blair team. We had to battle, but made enough plays to take home the win,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Kasischke led the Warriors with 23 points on 7-10 shooting from the field, and 8-9 from the line, to go with 4 steals. Grandgenett had a career-high 20 points on 7-10 shooting from the field and 6-7 shooting from the line. Hancock added 14 points and 9 boards.
Wahoo forced 19 turnovers to just 14 for themselves and outrebounded the Bears 25-19.
Wahoo improved to 10-2 and will travel to Platteview on Friday. Blair fell to 5-5.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Crete Cardinals 56-43 on Saturday afternoon in Wahoo.
The Warriors got off to a great start as they scored the first 11 points of the game and led 17-3 midway through the quarter. They lead 27-14 after one quarter. Owen Hancock had a huge first quarter, scoring 10 points with 7 steals. Myles Simon added 6 first quarter points.
From the second quarter on, the points became tough to come by for the Warriors, and Crete cut the Warrior lead to 32-25 at the half.
Crete scored the first 4 points of the third quarter to cut the Wahoo lead to 3 at 32-29. Back-to-back buckets from Marcus Glock and Hancock pushed the lead to 36-29. Simon would score the last 6 points of the quarter for Wahoo, to give the Warriors a 42-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals opened the fourth quarter with a trey to cut the lead to 42-38. Hancock then hit three consecutive treys to push the lead to 51-41. A Kamron Kasischke trey made it 54-43, and allowed the Warriors to escape with the win.
Wahoo was missing both of its Seniors, Triston Keeney and Trevor Kasischke, due to illness.
“We were a little shorthanded today,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We got off to a great start, but the rest of the way was a struggle for us. We uncharacteristically turned it over 21 times today. We could have folded in the second half, but Owen Hancock’s three consecutive treys in the fourth quarter were huge. I was proud of our kids for facing some adversity and responding.”
Hancock led the Warriors with 21 points on 9-12 shooting from the field, to go with 8 steals, and 4 assists. Simon had 12 points on 6-8 shooting from the field. Glock added 12 points. Garrett Grandgenett added 9 boards.
Wahoo forced 30 Crete turnovers, but also turned it over 21 times themselves.
Wahoo improved to 9-2 and will travel to Blair on Tuesday. Crete fell to 3-8.

Wahoo jumped out to a 9-0 lead behind 5 points from Garrett Grandgenett, a trey from Owen Hancock, and a free throw from Trevor Kasischke. Lutheran closed the lead to 17-15, but Wahoo led 21-16 after one quarter.
Wahoo scored the first 7 points of the second quarter. Two free throws from Owen, a Marcus Glock bucket, a Kasischke free throw, and a Myles Simon layup put Wahoo up 28-16. Wahoo led at the halftime break 40-26.
Wahoo’s lead was 44-33 with 5:00 minutes left in the third, when they began to pull away. A 14-2 run put Wahoo up 58-35, and Wahoo led after three 67-38.
“I was really pleased with our effort and our focus tonight,” said Head Coach. Kevin Scheef. “We did a much better job in every area than we did on Saturday. It was a good bounce back game.”
“Marcus Glock had a terrific game for us. Kamron Kasischke did a great job for us in the second half guarding Lutheran’s best player,” Scheef added.
Glock led Wahoo with 20 points on 7-7 shooting from the field, and 4-4 from the line. Hancock had 16 points, 4 steals, and 4 assists. T. Kasischke had 16 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Grandgenett added 9 points. Simon had 6 boards, and 4 steals. K. Kasischke had 5 assists.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Yutan Chieftains 63-59 on Saturday afternoon in Yutan.
The game was tied at 11 mid-way through the first quarter, when Yutan went on an 8-0 run to take a 19-11 lead. A Trevor Kasischke bucket cut the lead to 19-13 after one.
Yutan maintained their lead throughout the second quarter and went to the halftime break with a 34-24 lead.
The Warriors mounted a comeback in the third quarter and took their first lead since early in the game on a Myles Simon bucket towards the end of the period to lead 47-46 after three.
A 6-1 run by Yutan to start the fourth put the Chieftains up 52-48. An Owen Hancock bucket, followed by two Marcus Glock free throws and another Hancock bucket, put Wahoo back in front at 54-53. A Kasischke trey tied the game at 59 with 45 seconds left. A Yutan free throw put the Chieftains up 60-59. The Warriors misfired on their next two possessions, and Yutan put the game away at the free throw line, to win 63-59.
“We played a very poor first half. We did not play very hard or very well,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We were better in the second half, but spent it trying to dig ourselves out of a big hole. It was disappointing to see us get out-rebounded by 12 by a team with not a lot of size.”

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Elkhorn North Wolves 89-77 on Wednesday night, in the second day of the Holiday Tournament at Wahoo.
The Warriors had a big first quarter, as they jumped out to a 26-13 lead after one. Six Warriors scored in the quarter, led by 8 points from Trevor Kasischke.
Wahoo’s lead grew to 15 at 31-16 after two Owen Hancock free throws. The Wolves cut the lead to 31-24, before Wahoo extended the lead back to 13 at the half, 45-32.
In the third quarter, the Warriors extended the lead to 20 at 55-35 after a Kasischke bucket. Elkhorn North then scored 11 of the next 12 points, to cut the lead to 10 at 56-46. The quarter ended with Wahoo up 63-51.
In the fourth quarter, Wahoo extended the lead back to 15 at 70-55, after two Marcus Glock free throws. The lead would shrink to as little as 7 at 84-77 with a minute left, but free throws from Triston Keeney and Kasischke sealed the win for the Warriors at 89-77.
“This was a good win for us. We had chances to put them away at times, and would have been nice to do so, but they have a good team and they kept making a run at us,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “At times, we got a little impatient, which aided their runs, but overall, it was a good win for us.”
Kasischke led the Warriors with a career-high 28 points on 12-15 from the free throw line, to go with 7 boards, and 4 steals. Keeney had a season-high 16 points on 5-6 shooting from the field and the free throw line. Keeney also had 9 assists, 5 steals, and 5 boards. Glock had 14 points on 5-5 from the line. The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays 69-53 on Tuesday night, in the last game before the Christmas Break.
The Warriors got off to a great start, breaking out to a 17-2 lead, and led 21-6 after one quarter. Garrett Grandgenett had 8 first quarter points, and Trevor Kasischke added 7.
Wahoo still led 28-11 midway through the second quarter, when the Bluejays made a run. Ashland scored the next 10 points to cut the lead to 28-21. An Owen Hancock three-point play stopped the run and pushed the lead back to 31-21. The Warriors led 35-24 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Warriors pushed the lead to 40-26 after a Hancock trey. Ashland kept chipping away and cut the lead to 7 at 49-42 to end the third quarter.
The lead would get cut to 6 at 51-45 early in the fourth. A Kasischke free throw and Grandgenett bucket made it 54-45. A Hancock trey made it 57-45. The Bluejays countered with a trey to make it 57-48. An 8-0 run from the Warriors put the game away at 65-48, and the Warriors went on to a 69-53 win.
“I thought we played a great first quarter defensively,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We were flying around and making things tough for Ashland defensively. I thought once we got our lead though, that we got really impatient offensively, and played selfishly at times, which was disappointing. As we tried to do everything on our own, we allowed Ashland to get some momentum and get back in the game. I thought in the second half, we did a good job of keeping our composure, and answering their runs.”
Kasischke led Wahoo with 22 points on 7-11 shooting from the field. Hancock had 15 points and 8 boards. Grandgenett added 14 points and 8 boards. Triston Keeney had 6 assists.
Wahoo outrebounded the Bluejays 34-25.
Wahoo improved to 5-1, while Ashland-Greenwood dropped to 3-2. The Warriors will return to action on December 28, as it will host Elkhorn North in the first round of the Holiday Tournament at Wahoo.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Nebraska City Pioneers 67-32 in their first conference game in the new Trailblazer Conference, at home on Thursday night.
The Warriors jumped out early on the Pioneers, and led 19-6 after one quarter. They extended the lead to 44-11 at halftime, and to 59-18 after three quarters.
“I thought we were really solid tonight,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “I liked our defensive intensity. I think we are really trying to share the ball and to get each other good shots. The number of bad shots we have taken has decreased since our opener. I like where we are after five games, but we have a lot of improvement we can make.”
Marcus Glock led the Warriors with 16 points on 3-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Owen Hancock contributed 13 points on 3-4 shooting from behind the arc, to go with 4 boards and 4 steals. Trevor Kasischke had 11 points on 5-7 shooting. Myles Simon had 8 points and 5 assists. Triston Keeney had 5 steals and 4 assists.
The Warriors were 9-15 from behind the arc, and shot 55.1 percent from the field. Wahoo also outrebounded Nebraska City 29-15.
Wahoo improves to 4-1 and will host the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays on Tuesday. Nebraska City falls to 1-5.

The Wahoo Warriors hit the road Friday night to Wayne and came home with a 72-43 win.
The Warriors jumped out to leads of 8-0 and 11-2, and led 22-8 at the end of the first quarter.
A big second quarter put Wahoo up 37-12 at halftime.
“I thought we played a really nice first half,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We came out with good energy. Our defense forced a lot of turnovers and made them uncomfortable, and we were able to get a number of easy baskets on the break.”
Trevor Kasischke led four Warriors in double figures with 20 points on 7-10 shooting from the field, to go with 6 boards, 4 steals, and 4 assists. Owen Hancock added 17 points on 3-6 shooting from behind the arc to go with 5 boards. Myles Simon had 14 points on 7-7 shooting from the field and 5 steals. Marcus Glock added 13 points. Triston Keeney had 8 assists and 5 steals.
The Warriors forced 32 Blue Devil turnovers, while committing just 10 themselves.
The Warriors improved to 3-1 and will host Nebraska City on Thursday. Wayne drops to 3-1.

The Wahoo Warriors won an exciting 66-58 overtime match up at Logan View on Thursday night.
Wahoo jumped out to an early 10-4 lead behind two Triston Keeney treys. The Raiders came back and took a 16-12 lead after one quarter.
The game stayed close and Logan View led 23-20 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, the Warriors took a 30-25 lead after a Trevor Kasischke trey. An Owen Hancock trey towards the end of the quarter kept Wahoo up five at 43-38. The Raiders countered with a trey to end the quarter to make it 43-41 after three.
A Marcus Glock trey put Wahoo up 49-44 midway through the fourth quarter. The Raiders would tie it back up at 49. A Raider trey made it 52-49 with 1:30 left. Owen Hancock countered with a trey to tie it up at 52, with 1:15 left. The Raiders held it for the last shot, but two shots fell off the mark in the closing seconds to send the game to overtime.
A Glock jumper gave Wahoo a 54-52 lead. A Hancock trey stretched the lead to five at 57-52. A Logan View bucket made it 57-54. Two Garrett Grandgenett free throws made it 59-54. A Kasischke steal and layup pushed the lead to seven at 61-54, and the Warriors would hold on for the 66-58 overtime win.
“This was a really nice win for us. The game was on the line down the stretch and we found a way to get the job done,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “A week ago at Bennington, that was not the case, so it was really good to see us find a way. We had a number of different guys make big plays for us at the end of the fourth and in overtime.”
“It was a very cool night for me personally, getting to coach against my son, Jake. That was a great experience,” Scheef added.
Glock led three Warriors in double figures with 18 points on 6-6 shooting from the free throw line. Hancock added 17 points on 3-6 shooting from behind the arc. Kasischke had 16 points and 5 boards. Myles Simon added 7 points, 4 boards, 4 steals, and 4 assists. Keeney had 6 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists.
The Warriors forced 23 Raider turnovers to just 13 for themselves, but Logan View out-rebounded Wahoo 30-22.
The Warriors improved to 2-1 and will travel to Wayne to face the Blue Devils on Friday night. Logan View drops to 2-1.

The Wahoo Warriors got their first win of the season on Friday night at home against the Aurora Huskies, 59-36.
The Warriors got off to a great start and raced to a 14-5 lead, and led 16-7 after one quarter. Five Warriors scored in the opening period.
Wahoo continued to increase the lead in the second quarter. The lead grew to 29-10 late in the half, before heading to the break with a 30-14 lead. Myles Simon paced the Warriors with 10 first half points.
The lead grew to 23 late in the third quarter at 41-18, and the score heading into the fourth was 41-21. Wahoo maintained the lead throughout, as reserves finished up the game.
“This was a great bounce back game for us,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We had a lot of nerves last night, and didn’t handle things very well in the fourth quarter. We were much better tonight. We moved the ball much better, and the decision making was much better. I liked how we played tonight. Myles Simon played really well tonight.”
Simon paced the Warriors with 13 points on 4-4 shooting from the field, and 6 boards. Garrett Grandgenett had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Trevor Kasischke added 11 points and 4 steals. Owen Hancock added 8 points. Triston Keeney had 5 assists.
Wahoo shot 53.8 percent from the floor, compared to 31.0 percent for Aurora.
Wahoo improved to 1-1 and will travel to Logan View on Thursday night. Aurora falls to 1-1.

Bennington overtakes Warrior Boys in season opener

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Bennington Badgers 71-64 in the season opener at Bennington on Thursday night.
Wahoo jumped out to a 19-11 lead late in the first quarter, but Bennington cut the lead to three at 22-19 at the end of the quarter on a deep three.
The Warriors again stretched out the lead in the second quarter, leading by 10 at 31-21, before allowing the Badgers to score the last eight points of the half to cut the lead to 31-29.
Once again, Wahoo stretched the lead back to nine at 40-31 midway through the third. Bennington again cut the lead to 49-47 at the end of three.
The Badgers tied the game up at 49 early in the fourth. A Trevor Kasischke trey and Garrett Grandgenett bucket put Wahoo up 54-49. Bennington would go on an 11-2 run to go up 60-56 with three minutes left. An Owen Hancock lay-up cut the lead to 62-60. The Warriors would go cold down the stretch, and the Badgers would knock down their free throws to take home the 71-64 win.
“We had a number of opportunities to really take control of the game through the first three quarters, but we made some bad decisions, forced some bad shots, missed some free throws, and just let them hang around, and that came back to haunt us in the fourth quarter,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “There were a lot of positives tonight, but being more patient and getting the right shot on the offensive end is going to be critical, as well as consistently playing better defense.”
Kasischke paced the Warriors with 21 points and 8 boards. Grandgenett had 15 points and 6 boards. Hancock had 15 points and 6 boards. Marcus Glock came off the bench to add 8 points and 9 boards.
Wahoo returns to action tonight to host the Aurora Huskies.
