The Wahoo Warriors punched their ticket to State with a 70-55 District Final victory over the Platteview Trojans on Saturday afternoon in Wahoo.
The Warriors got off to a great start, scoring the first 10 points of the game. A Trevor Kasischke trey, followed by to free throws from Trey Scheef, a Kasischke basket and a Braden Harris trey, put Wahoo up 10-0. The Warriors led 18-11 after one quarter.
The second quarter stayed much the same, as Wahoo led 29-23 at the half.
Wahoo scored the first seven points of the third quarter to go up 36-23. A Thomas Waido bucket, five straight points from Scheef, and a Harris free throw put Wahoo up 36-23. Platteview answered with seven consecutive points to close the game up at 36-30.
Wahoo still lead 37-31, when back-to-back treys from Gerardo Madrid and Kasischke put Wahoo up 43-31. Platteview again answered, and a 40-foot shot at the buzzer closed the gap to 45-39 after three.
The Warriors led 49-44, when a trey from Madrid and two Scheef free throws gave the Warriors a 54-44 lead. Platteview again answered and cut the lead to 54-49. A big Kasischke trey with 4:10 left put Wahoo up 57-49.
Platteview scored the next four points to make 57-53, with 3:45 left. An offensive rebound, put back and free throw from Scheef made it 60-53 with 3:20 left. Platteview would answer again, making it 60-55 with 2:38 left. A three-point play from Triston Keeney made it 63-55. A Platteview turnover and Waido lay up made it 65-55 with 1:00 minute left. The Warriors would add five more free throws to close out the win at 70-55.
“This was a great win for our kids,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Always tough to beat a good team three times in a season. Our kids competed really hard today. Platteview kept answering every run we made, but we persevered and found a way to get it done. It was a great team win. Trevor Kasischke was sick for two days, but was really tough today and played a great game.”
Kasischke led the Warriors with 15 points, 7 boards, and 4 steals. Waido had a double/double with 14 points and 10 boards, to go with 4 assists. Scheef had 14 points on 10-10 shooting from the line. Madrid had 11 points on 3-4 shooting from behind the arc. Harris added 8 points and 5 boards. Keeney had 8 points, 5 boards, 5 steals, and 6 assists.
Wahoo outrebounded Platteview 35-21, and were 23-28 (82.1%) from the free throw line.
Wahoo improved to 23-2 and will advance the to the State Tournament. Platteview ends its season at 14-11.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Mount Michael Knights 68-59 on Tuesday night in the B-4 Subdistrict Final at Wahoo.
The Knights jumped on the Warriors early and led 14-7 midway through the period. A put back at the buzzer gave the Knights a 20-13 lead after one.
Mount Michael maintained their lead in the second quarter and led 32-26 at the half.
The Warriors cut the lead to 35-30 early in the third, but missed their next three free throws, missed a shot on their next possession, had a turnover and then another missed shot, with multiple chances to cut into the Knight lead. Wahoo then failed to check out on a free throw, the Knights rebounded, kicked it out for a three, missed that, but again got the offensive rebound, and then knocked down a three to make it 38-30.
Mount Michael extended the lead to 45-32 late in the third, before the Warriors cut it to 47-37 after three.
Wahoo would make a couple of runs in the fourth quarter. Two Thomas Waido free throws cut the lead to 54-49 with four minutes left. Mount Michael extended the lead back to 11 at 62-51 with 1:50 left. A Triston Keeney trey made it 62-54. A Waido bucket and free throw cut the lead to 64-57. A Trevor Kasischke lay up made it 64-59. The Warriors had a chance to cut it to 3 with 30 seconds left, but could not convert a lay up, and the Knights made four free throws in the last 25 seconds to ice the win.
“We did not get off to a good start,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We were playing from behind all night, which is tough to do. We had too many turnovers, we got out-rebounded, and we did not shoot it very well, which is in large part because of the really good defense that Mount Michael plays. Our guys battled to the end though.”
Trey Scheef led the Warriors with 16 points. Kasischke added 10 points and 5 boards. Braden Harris added 8 points. Keeney had 8 boards.
Mount Michael out-rebounded Wahoo 35-24, and forced 20 Warrior turnovers. Wahoo was just 2-13 from behind the arc.
Wahoo fell to 22-2, but will advance to host a District Final on Saturday in Wahoo. Mount Michael improved to 19-5.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Blair Bears 81-46 at home, on Senior Night, in the final game of the regular season.
The Warriors scored the first 12 points of the game on a Triston Keeney bucket, a Gerardo Madrid trey, five points from Trey Scheef, and a Thomas Waido jumper. Wahoo led 25-11 after one quarter.
Wahoo stretched the lead to 52-22 on a 35-foot shot from Waido to end the half. The Warriors led 71-31 after three quarters.
Waido and Scheef led the Warriors with 16 points apiece. Waido added 7 steals and 5 assists. Scheef was 9-9 from the line to go with 4 assists. Keeney added 13 points. Madrid had 9 points on 3-4 from behind the arc. Trevor Kasischke scored 9 points. Braden Harris had 6 points and 6 boards.
The Warriors were 11-19 from behind the arc (57.9%), and were 18-20 (90%) from the free throw line. Wahoo forced 20 Bear turnovers.
“I thought we played well. We got off to a great start. We shot the ball well, which is due to getting really good ball movement. We played how we wanted to play heading into Subdistrict action next week,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Wahoo improved to 22-1, and will face the winner of Mount Michael and Schuyler on Tuesday night at Wahoo. Blair dropped to 4-17.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays 69-58 on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, to clinch the regular season Conference Championship. The win capped the final game of Capitol Conference action, as the Warriors move into the Trailblazer Conference for next year.
Wahoo got off to a great start, jumping out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. Trey Scheef had seven of the first nine, along with a Triston Keeney bucket to get the Warriors started. The Warriors led 18-6 after one quarter.
The Bluejays rallied and cut the lead to 22-18 early in the second, but Wahoo went on a 9-0 run, starting with a trey from Scheef, a Braden Harris lay up, and a Keeney trey to make it 31-18. The Warriors got the lead to 15 at 37-22, before the Bluejays scored the final four points of the half to cut the lead to 37-26.
A lay up and two free throws from Trevor Kasischke pushed the lead back to 15, at 41-26 to open the second half. The Warriors continued to increase the lead, and a put-back from Kasischke to end the quarter, put Wahoo up 53-33 after three.
Ashland heated up from three-point range in the fourth quarter, and a trey cut the Warrior lead to 57-47 with 3:24 left. A Thomas Waido basket and five free throws from Gerardo Madrid, and three from Scheef, made the final 69-58.
“It is not easy to beat a good team twice in two weeks, so I was proud of our kids for battling,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We were sloppy with the ball at times, but it was a good win and exciting to win the regular season Conference Championship, along with the Tournament Championship. Trevor Kasischke was really good today.”
Scheef led Wahoo with 17 points, 6 boards, and 5 assists. Kasischke had 16 points on 5-7 shooting from the field, 6 boards, and 4 steals. Madrid had 11 points on 2-2 from three-point range, and 5-6 from the line. Keeney had 10 points and 4 boards. Waido added 8 points and 5 boards.
Wahoo outrebounded Ashland 30-21.
Wahoo moved to 21-1 on the season and will host Blair for Senior Night on Thursday. Ashland-Greenwood dropped to 14-6.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Columbus Scotus Shamrocks 77-39 on Tuesday night in Wahoo.
Wahoo raced out to a 13-0 lead behind a trey from Triston Keeney, and three more treys from Trey Scheef. Wahoo led 22-8 after one quarter, and stretched the lead to 45-17 at the half. The Warriors led 65-28 after three quarters.
“For it being our fourth game in five nights, I was really pleased with our intensity and energy tonight. We wanted to get off to a good start, and we did just exactly that. We got really good production from a lot of kids tonight,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Scheef led Wahoo with 18 points on 4-5 shooting from behind the arc. Braden Harris had 11 points on 5-7 shooting from the field to go with 6 boards. Gerardo Madrid, Trevor Kasischke, and Thomas Waido all contributed 9 points. Madrid was 3-3 from behind the arc. Garrett Grandgenett added 8 points off the bench. Keeney had a game-high 8 assists.
Wahoo forced 20 Shamrock turnovers, while committing just 7 themselves. Wahoo also had 25 assists on 27 of their made field goals.
Wahoo improved to 20-1, and will travel to Ashland on Saturday to take on the Bluejays. Columbus Scotus dropped to 4-16.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Waverly Vikings 66-59 on Monday night in Waverly, in a rescheduled game from January.
The Warriors got off to a very rough start. The Vikings scored the first 9 points of the game, and still led 15-4 late in the first, before the Warriors closed the gap to 17-9 after one.
The Waverly lead grew to 13 midway through the second quarter, at 27-14. Wahoo got two Thomas Waido buckets and a lay up from Trey Scheef to cut the lead to 27-20 going to the halftime break.
A three from Scheef and a Triston Keeney bucket cut the Waverly lead to 27-25 early in the third. The Warriors trailed 38-37, when back-to-back treys from Gerardo Madrid put Wahoo up 43-38. The Warriors led 43-42 entering the final quarter.
Waverly scored first in the fourth quarter to take the lead at 44-43. A three-point play from Owen Hancock put Wahoo up 46-44. Waverly led 49-48, when a big trey from Trevor Kasischke put Wahoo ahead for good at 51-49.
Another trey from Madrid extended the Warrior lead to 5 at 54-49. Following a Viking trey, that cut the lead to 54-52, two Kasischke free throws made it 56-52. Two Waido free throws made it 58-52. Following a Waverly trey that cut the lead to 58-55 with 1:03 left, Waido made two more free throws to push the lead back to 60-55. The Warriors iced the game from the free throw line, to win 66-59.
“We could not do much right early,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We uncharacteristically turned the ball over a lot, especially early. I was worried about this game coming in, after an emotional three-overtime game on Saturday. When we got down 13 midway through the second, it was not looking good. It was huge that we were able to cut the lead to 7 by halftime, and then get it to a two-point lead early in the third. We shot it very well from three in the third quarter, and then we shot free throws very well down the stretch. Gerardo Madrid hit some big shots for us tonight.”
The Warriors were 8-10 from behind the arc in the second half, and 13-13 from the free throw line in the second half.
Waido led the Warriors with 15 points and 8 boards. Scheef had 14 points and 10 boards. Madrid has 12 points on 4-6 shooting from behind the arc. Kasischke had 11 points, and Keeney added 9 points.
The Warriors improved to 19-1 and will host Columbus Scotus on Tuesday night. Waverly dropped to 9-8.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders 82-80, in triple overtime, on Saturday afternoon in Grand Island.
The Crusaders led 16-15 after one quarter. They stretched the lead to 10 at 36-26 late in the second quarter. Two Thomas Waido free throws and a basket by Trey Scheef cut the GICC lead to 36-30 at the half.
A Braden Harris bucket cut the GICC lead to 42-40 midway through the third period, but the Crusaders answered with a run of their own to extend the lead back to eight at 50-42, to end the third quarter.
The Crusaders still led 52-46 early in the fourth, but two Triston Keeney free throws, a Scheef bucket, and a Trevor Kasischke bucket tied the game up 52. GICC got the lead to 57-54 with 1:30 left. A huge Kasischke trey tied the game at 57 with 40 seconds left to play. Scheef made a steal with 5 seconds to play, but could not hit the long three at the buzzer, and they went to overtime tied at 57.
Two Scheef free throws gave the Warriors their first lead of the game at 59-57, early in the first overtime. Two Crusader free throws and a lay up put GICC up 61-59. Two Owen Hancock free throws tied the game at 61 with 1:30 to play. Two Crusader free throws made it 63-61. Waido converted a three-point play to put the Warriors back on top at 64-63 with 1:05 left.
A three-point play from GICC put them back in front at 66-64. Two Scheef free throws with 30 seconds to play tied the game at 66. GICC missed a three with 4 seconds left in the first overtime, to send the game to a second overtime.
In the second overtime, a Waido basket, followed by a Scheef put-back, gave the Warriors a 70-66 lead. The Crusaders answered with a basket and three-point play to go up 71-70. Another Crusader free throw made it 72-70. A Scheef basket tied the game at 72 with 55 seconds left. The Crusaders missed a trey with 7 seconds left, and the Warriors’ lone three-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark, to send the game to a third overtime.
In the third overtime, the Crusaders jumped out to a five-point lead at 77-72. Two Scheef free throws made it 77-74. A Crusader free throw made it 78-74. A Scheef trey cut the lead to 78-77. The Crusaders scored on their next possession to extend their lead to 80-77. Keeney hit a huge trey with 20 seconds left to tie the game at 80. GICC was called for traveling with 8 seconds left. Kasischke was fouled with 5.6 seconds to play. Kasischke calmly sank both free throws to put the Warriors up 82-80. GICC then missed a trey at the buzzer, to give the Warriors the thrilling triple overtime win.
“It was an amazing high school basketball game!” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We had our back against the wall a number of times, but I am so proud of our kids for persevering. The neat thing about this game was that we had so many different kids step up and make huge plays when we needed them most. It was a complete team victory.”
Scheef led the Warriors with 26 points and 6 boards. Kasischke had 17 points and 6 boards. Keeney added 15 points and 8 boards. Waido added 10 points, 7 steals, and 4 assists. Harris added 6 boards and 4 assists.
The Warriors improved to 18-1, while GICC falls to 18-2. The Warriors will travel to Waverly on Monday in a rescheduled game.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Arlington Eagles 86-51 on Friday night at Arlington.
The Warriors jumped out to a 28-10 lead after one quarter, behind three treys from Trey Scheef in the period. The lead stretched to 48-27 at halftime. Scheef had 22 of his career-high 31 points in the first half. The lead was 68-39 after three quarters.
“I thought we played well. We shot it well, which can be attributed to good ball movement and finding the open guys. Braden Harris played really well again for us, as the last few games he has been playing his best basketball,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Scheef led Wahoo with 31 points on 10-15 shooting from the field and 7-7 from the line, to go with 5 steals. Harris had 17 points on 7-8 shooting from the field, to go with 6 boards, and 5 blocks. Thomas Waido added 9 points and 5 steals. Trevor Kasischke and Trent Hallowell added 8 points apiece.
Wahoo improved to 17-1 and will travel to GICC on Saturday afternoon to take on the highly-ranked Crusaders. Arlington fell to 7-13.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Syracuse Rockets 66-28 on Monday night in a rescheduled game in Syracuse.
The Rockets scored the first six points of the game to take a 6-0 lead. The Warriors would score the next 22 points of the game to take a 22-6 lead after one quarter. Trey Scheef scored 12 first quarter points.
Wahoo increased the lead to 49-15 at halftime, as reserves then played most of the second half.
“We had a slow start, but then we got things going and played pretty well,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Braden Harris has had a stretch of three really good games.”
Scheef led Wahoo with 16 points. Harris added 12 on 4-4 shooting from the line and 4 steals. Triston Keeney added 9 points, and Thomas Waido had 8 points and 8 boards. Trevor Kasischke added 8 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists.
The Warriors forced 22 Rocket turnovers, while committing just 8.
Wahoo improved to 16-1, while Syracuse fell to 0-17. Wahoo will travel to Arlington on Friday night.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays in the Finals of the Capitol Conference Tournament at Arlington on Saturday night.
The Warriors jumped out to leads of 6-1, and 11-3. They led after one quarter 23-10, after a Trevor Kasischke putback. Two Gerardo Madrid treys got the Warriors started.
Wahoo increased the lead to 29-10 early in the second quarter on a trey from Kasischke and baskets from Thomas Waido and Triston Keeney. Following another Kasischke basket, the Warriors led by 21 at 36-15. The Bluejays came storming back though, and cut the Warrior lead to 38-32 late in the second. Three free throws from Trey Scheef to end the half gave Wahoo a 41-32 lead.
A 7-0 run from Ashland cut the Warrior lead to two at 41-39 early in the third quarter. Following a timeout, the Warriors went on a 15-0 run to push the lead back to 56-39. An Owen Hancock lay up, a Braden Harris basket, followed by a Harris three-point play, a Scheef free throw and a Scheef three-point play, a Waido lay up, concluded by a Kasischke bucket, capped the 15-0 run. Wahoo led 56-39 after three quarters.
Ashland cut the Warrior lead to 62-51 with 4:00 minutes to play. A Waido trey pushed the lead back to 65-51 on the next possession, and Wahoo would close out the game at the free throw line.
“When Ashland cut our 21-point lead to two, it would have been easy to fall apart and fold. Our kids did not do that. They kept battling and were able to make a run of their own,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “During that run, we had multiple kids step up and make plays, which has been a quality of this team. It was really good to end our run in the Capitol Conference with a Championship.”
Waido led the Warriors with 16 points and 6 boards. Scheef added 14 points and 5 assists. Harris had 11 points. Kasischke added 11 points and 7 boards. Madrid added 6 points, 6 boards, and 4 steals.
Wahoo improved to 15-1 and will travel to Syracuse on Monday night to take on the Rockets. Ashland-Greenwood falls to 12-4.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Platteview Trojans 77-54 in the Semifinals of the Capitol Conference Tournament at Wahoo on Friday night.
Platteview hit back-to-back treys to open the game to take a 6-2 lead. The Warriors battled back, and two Trevor Kasischke treys helped the Warriors tie the game after one quarter at 17.
Eleven Triston Keeney second quarter points helped the Warriors take a 39-31 lead into the halftime break.
A basket from Trey Scheef, and back-to-back buckets from Braden Harris, gave the Warriors a 45-31 lead early in the third quarter. The lead was still 50-36 midway through the quarter. A Keeney bucket, a trey from Kasischke, and a Thomas Waido lay up, put Wahoo up 57-36. The quarter ended with Wahoo up 65-44.
The Warriors would not be threatened in the fourth quarter, and went on to the 77-54 win.
“This was a game I was really worried about. They played us really tough two weeks ago, and have some really good shooters. I was really pleased with how we played, considering all the illnesses we had this week. I thought our press gave them a lot of trouble in the third quarter, when we were really able to extend the lead. We still have to be a much better rebounding team,” commented Coach Kevin Scheef.
Scheef led four Warriors in double figures with 16 points, to go with 7 boards, and 6 assists. Keeney added 15 points on 2-2 from three-point range, 6 boards, and 4 steals. Kasischke had 15 points on 4-4 shooting from behind the arc. Harris had 11 points, 7 boards, and 5 assists. Madrid added 8 points. Waido had 6 assists.
The Warriors were 11-18 (61.1%) from three-point range. Wahoo gave up 20 offensive rebounds.
Wahoo improved to 14-1, and will face the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays in the Finals of the Capitol Conference Tournament on Saturday in Arlington. Platteview dropped to 8-7.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Syracuse Rockets 69-22 in the first round of the Capitol Conference Tournament at Wahoo on Tuesday night.
The Warriors led 19-7 after one quarter, 40-11 at halftime, and 59-16 after three quarters.
“Considering we were missing three of our top eight guys with illness, I was pretty happy with how we responded,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We were not real smooth early, but it got better in the second and third quarters.”
Wahoo forced 23 Rocket turnovers, while committing just 8. The Warriors were 25-49 (51.0%), while Syracuse was just 8-30 (26.7%) from the field.
Trey Scheef led Wahoo with 22 points on 9-11 shooting from the field. Thomas Waido added 11 points on 4-5 shooting, 6 boards, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Trevor Kasischke added 9 points, while Gerardo Madrid and Micah Sears added 8 points.
Wahoo improved to 13-1 and will host Platteview on Friday night in the Semifinals of the Conference Tournament. Syracuse falls to 0-15.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Raymond Central Mustangs 72-31 on Tuesday evening in Wahoo, in Capitol Conference action.
The Warriors had a huge first quarter and jumped out to a 31-5 lead after one. The score was 46-13 at halftime.
Wahoo outrebounded Raymond Central 30-10, and forced 28 Mustang turnovers, including 25 in the first half.
Trey Scheef led the Warriors with 18 points on 8-12 shooting from the field, along with 5 steals and 4 assists. Thomas Waido had 10 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists. Thirteen Warriors played in the game, with 10 of them scoring.
Wahoo will travel to Waverly tomorrow night to take on the Vikings. Wahoo improved to 12-1, while Raymond Central dropped to 3-10.

The Warriors had a huge first quarter, jumping out to a 32-17 lead. Triston Keeney got the Warriors going with 12 first quarter points.
Wahoo continued to increase the lead in the second quarter and went to halftime leading 57-29. The third quarter ended with Wahoo up 80-49.
“I was really happy with our execution today. I thought we were cutting well and finding guys with open looks at the rim,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We also showed a better toughness going after rebounds, which was really good to see.”
Keeney led the way with 20 points on 8-12 shooting from the field, to go with 7 boards and 4 assists. Owen Hancock had a career-high 13 points and 5 boards. Thomas Waido had 13 points and 5 steals. Trey Scheef added 11 points, 6 boards, and 4 assists. Braden Harris had 8 points and 4 steals.
The Warriors forced 28 Falcon turnovers, including 19 in the first half, while committing just 11. Wahoo was 33-45 (73.3%) from two-point range for the game.
Wahoo improved to 11-1, while D.C. West dropped to 7-6. The Warriors will host Raymond Central on Tuesday night.

The Wahoo Warriors survived the Platteview Trojans 68-61 on Thursday night in Wahoo in Capitol Conference action.
The Warriors and Trojans were tied at 12 early in the first quarter. A Gerardo Madrid trey, his second of the game, followed by an Owen Hancock lay up and Trevor Kasischke basket, put Wahoo up 20-12 at the end of one.
In the second quarter, Platteview went on a 15-2 run to open the quarter to take a 27-23 lead. The Warriors battled back, and back-to-back Trey Scheef buckets gave the Warriors a 32-31 lead at the half.
The third quarter saw Platteview stretch out their lead to 44-39. A Kasischke trey cut the lead to 44-42, and a Scheef lay up tied the game at 44. The Trojans led 48-45 when Hancock’s trey tied the game at 48. The Warriors led 50-48 after three.
A Platteview trey gave the Trojans a five-point lead at 58-53 with 5:00 left. A Scheef trey cut the lead to 58-56. A three-point play from Kasischke put the Warriors up 59-58 with 3:30 left. A Kasischke offensive rebound and putback put Wahoo up 61-58.
Platteview answered with their 16th trey of the game to tie the game at 61, with 2:15 left. After a Warrior miss, Triston Keeney got a steal and fed Kasischke. Kasischke made two free throws to put Wahoo up 63-61 with 1:50 left. Following another Keeney steal and feed to Thomas Waido for a lay up, Wahoo led 65-61 with 1:20 left. Scheef added two more free throws with 38 seconds left, and Keeney added a free throw with 20 seconds left to account for the 68-61 win.
“Give Platteview a ton of credit for shooting the ball really well,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “To be able to win a game when the other team hits 16 treys does not happen very often. Rebounding continues to be a major problem for us. They hit three of their treys following offensive rebounds. We have to get tougher on the glass. Gerardo Madrid had a great first half for us. Triston Keeney got two huge steals for us late. Trey Scheef hit a huge three in the fourth quarter when things were not looking good. Trevor Kasischke had a huge night for us. He hit big shots, and got us a couple of great effort, offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter. He came up big!”
Platteview was 16-39 from behind the arc, and outrebounded the Warriors 35-23. The Warriors forced 18 Trojan turnovers while committing just 6 themselves.
Kasischke led the Warriors with 21 points on 2-2 shooting from behind the arc, and 5-6 at the line, to go with a team-high 8 boards. Scheef added 15 points, 6 boards, and 4 steals. Madrid added 10 points on 4-5 shooting from the field. Waido added 10 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists.
The Warriors improved to 10-1, while Platteview fell to 6-6. Wahoo will travel to Valley on Saturday afternoon, to take on D.C. West.

The Wahoo Warriors went on the road and defeated the Crete Cardinals 61-55 on Saturday afternoon.
Wahoo started off hot, as they jumped to leads of 14-5, and 17-8 in the first quarter. Trevor Kasischke hit two treys in the quarter, and Triston Keeney, Owen Hancock, and Trey Scheef hit a trey as well. The quarter ended with Wahoo up 19-13.
In the second quarter, Wahoo led 30-22 with two minutes left to play. The Cardinals went on an 8-0 run though, to end the half tie up at 30.
The Cardinals took their first and only lead of the game a minute into the half at 32-31. Scheef’s lay up and two free throws made it 35-32. After a Crete bucket, Kasischke’s three-point play put Wahoo up 38-34. Towards the end of the quarter, a Thomas Waido bucket put Wahoo up 46-38. A Crete trey at the buzzer cut the lead to 46-41 after three.
Crete scored the first four points of the quarter to cut the lead to 46-45. The points were tough to come by for the Warriors early in the fourth. Keeney’s jumper put Wahoo up 50-48 with two minutes left. Two Keeney free throws with 1:10 left put Wahoo up 52-48. Following a Crete free throw, Scheef hit two free throws to make it 54-49 with 50 seconds left.
A Hancock free throw put the Warriors up 55-49 with 36 seconds left. A Crete trey with 26 seconds left cut the lead to 55-52. Two more Hancock free throws made it 57-52 with 20 seconds left. Crete hit another trey with 16 seconds left to make it 57-55. A Gerardo Madrid assist to Waido clinched the game with 10 seconds left to make it 59-55.
“Crete’s length in their 1-3-1 caused us a lot of problems. We had chances to stretch the lead and take control of the game, but were just never able to do so. It was really a grind-it-out type of game,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.
Waido and Scheef led the Warriors with 15 points apiece. Waido also had a team-high 8 boards. Keeney added 14 points. Kasischke added 9 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists.
The Warriors improved to 9-1, while Crete dropped to 5-5. The Warriors will host Platteview on Friday night.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Lincoln Lutheran Warriors 72-60 on Tuesday night in Lincoln.
Wahoo led 20-17 after one quarter, behind eight first quarter points from Trevor Kasischke.
Wahoo gradually increased the lead to 42-28 at halftime. Triston Keeney had three first half treys, and Thomas Waido had 12 first half points.
Lincoln Lutheran scored the first nine points of the third quarter to cut the 14-point lead to five at 42-37. A Keeney bucket, followed by a Scheef trey, a Waido lay up and an Owen Hancock lay up pushed the lead back to 14 at 51-37. The third quarter ended with Wahoo up 53-41.
The Warriors were able to maintain the 12-point lead throughout the fourth quarter to take home the 72-60 win.
“We shot the ball well tonight, which was good to see, but we were sloppy with our passes. That had been a strength of ours this year, in taking care of the ball, but we did not do that tonight. Eighteen turnovers is way too many,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “It was good to see both Trevor Kasischke and Triston Keeney shoot it well from the perimeter.”
Scheef led the Warriors with 18 points on 7-10 shooting from the field to go with 4 steals. Waido had 18 points on 7-10 shooting from the field, along with 6 boards, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Keeney contributed 15 points on 3-3 shooting from behind the arc to go with 5 steals. Kasischke was also in double figures with 10 points on 2-3 shooting from behind the arc.
Wahoo shot 70.6% from the field on 24-34, and shot 77.3% from the line on 17-22. Wahoo turned the ball over 18 times, but forced 20 Lutheran turnovers.
Wahoo improved to 8-1 and will travel to Syracuse on Friday night. Lincoln Lutheran dropped to 6-4.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Yutan Chieftains 53-50 on Thursday night in Wahoo, in the first game of the new decade.
The Warriors raced out to a 19-9 lead after one quarter behind six points from Trey Scheef, and five from Owen Hancock.
The second quarter, Wahoo struggled to score as they put up just five points, and at the half led just 24-23.
The Chieftains went on a 9-2 run to open the third quarter, taking their biggest lead of the game at 32-26.
The Warriors responded with back-to-back treys by Scheef and Trevor Kasischke to tie the game up at 32. A Triston Keeney bucket to end the quarter cut Yutan’s lead to 37-36 after three.
Two Scheef free throws gave the lead back to Wahoo at 38-37 to open the fourth quarter. A Braden Harris three-point play put the Warriors up 41-37, and a three-point play from Scheef gave the Warriors a seven-point lead at 44-37. Two Keeney free throws gave Wahoo a 47-43 lead with 3:30 left.
A Yutan trey cut the lead to 47-46 with two minutes to play. Thomas Waido’s free throw put Wahoo up 48-46. A Yutan bucket tied the game at 48 moments later. Kasischke made two free throws with 1:10 left to put Wahoo up 50-48. Following a Yutan miss, Waido made the play of the game with a follow up dunk with 45 seconds left, to put Wahoo up 52-48.
A Yutan basket with 35 seconds left cut the lead to 52-50. Hancock made a free throw with 30 seconds left to make it 53-50. In the final 25 seconds the Warriors survived two missed three point attempts to hang on for the 53-50 victory.
“This was a big win for us over a very good Yutan team. When we got down six in the third quarter, we did not panic and made the plays that we needed to,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Trey and Trevor’s back-to-back treys to tie it up were huge, as were Trevor’s two free throws, Thomas’ follow up dunk, and Owen’s play down the stretch.”
Scheef led the Warriors with 18 points on 6-10 shooting from the field. Kasischke had a game-high 9 rebounds, to go with 7 points. Hancock had 8 points, and Waido had 5 steals.
The Warriors improved to 7-1, while Yutan dropped to 7-1. The Warriors will travel to Lincoln Lutheran on Tuesday night.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Seward Bluejays 72-44 on Saturday afternoon in the Consolation game of the Holiday Tournament at Bishop Neumann.
The Warriors jumped out to a big lead early on Seward. The Warriors raced to a 20-2 lead in the first quarter, behind eight points, on two treys from Trey Scheef, and seven a piece from Braden Harris and Thomas Waido.
Seward would cut the lead to 20-10 early in the second quarter, but the Warriors responded with a 12-0 run. Scheef added two more treys, and Waido added six points to make it 32-10. The Warriors lead 38-20 at half, and 61-34 at the end of three.
“I thought we came out with really good focus and intensity. We played with a little bit of an edge, which we needed after getting kicked around the night before,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Thomas and Trey were really good for us. Braden Harris had a good weekend, and Owen Hancock gave us a real lift on the glass.”
Scheef led the Warriors with 20 points on 4-9 shooting from behind the arc, to go with 6 steals. Waido added 19 points on 8-13 from the floor and 4 steals. Harris added 13 points on 6-10 shooting from the floor. Triston Keeney had a game-high 7 assists. Hancock had a game-high 8 rebounds.
The Warriors forced 33 Bluejay turnovers while committing just 10 themselves.

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Lexington Minutemen 78-64 in the first round of the Holiday Tournament at Bishop Neumann on Friday night.
Lexington jumped on Wahoo from the start, jumping to leads of 5-0 and 14-4. They led 17-6 at the end of one quarter.
Lexington expanded the lead to 37-19 late in the second quarter. The Warriors went on a 10-2 run, aided by two Braden Harris treys, and two Thomas Waido buckets cut the Lexington lead to 39-29 at halftime.
The Minutemen scored the first eight points of the third quarter to make it 47-29, and cruised the rest of the way to the 78-64 win.
“It was a very disappointing night,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We got out worked in all phases of the game. Give Lexington a lot of credit. They played much harder than we did and were much tougher.”
Harris led Wahoo with 19 points on 5-8 shooting from three-point range, and 6 boards. Trey Scheef had 14 points on 8-8 from the free throw line, and Waido added 12 points and 5 boards.
Lexington shot 57.1% from the field compared to 35% from the Warriors, and out-rebounded Wahoo 28-23.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Fort Calhoun Pioneers 81-42 on Friday night in Fort Calhoun in Capitol Conference action.
The Warriors had a big first quarter as they jumped to a 26-12 lead after one, behind 9 first quarter points from Trey Scheef, a couple of treys from Gerardo Madrid, and 5 points from Thomas Waido.
Wahoo extended the lead to 36-14 midway through the second quarter, but the Pioneers went on a 9-2 run to end the half, and the Warriors’ lead shrunk to 38-23 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Warriors led 46-29 after a Trevor Kasischke trey. A trey from Scheef and a three-point play from Owen Hancock pushed the lead to 52-31, and the Warriors would continue to extend the lead from there.
“I was really happy with our effort and how we played tonight. We were very active defensively, and we really moved the ball well on the offensive end. We shot it very well, but a lot of that had to do with our ball movement and finding open looks that were good shots. Trevor Kasischke really had a great breakout game, which was really good to see. Gerardo Madrid played really well for us, and Thomas Waido continues to be a force on the defensive end,” said Coach Kevin Scheef.
Scheef led the Warriors on 18 points on 8-12 shooting from the field. Kasischke had a career-high 16 points on 4-4 shooting from behind the arc. Waido had 14 points, 5 boards, 5 steals, and 6 assists. Madrid added 11 points on 3-4 shooting from behind the arc.
The Warriors were 12-22 from behind the arc and forced 28 Pioneer turnovers, while committing just 10 themselves.
Wahoo improved to 5-0 heading into the Christmas break, while Fort Calhoun drops to 3-3. Wahoo will next face Lexington in the first round of the Neumann Holiday Tournament.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Raiders 48-40 on Saturday afternoon in Wahoo.
The Warriors scored the first 10 points of the game on treys from Trevor Kasischke and Triston Keeney, and two buckets from Thomas Waido. The Raiders then scored the next eight points to cut the lead to 10-8. Trey Scheef then scored the next eight points for Wahoo, and the quarter ended with Wahoo up 18-10.
Logan View cut the lead to 20-18 late in the second quarter. A bucket from Waido and two Braden Harris free throws put Wahoo up 24-18 at the half.
Threes from Kasischke and Gerardo Madrid put Wahoo up 30-21 early in the third. Two Waido free throws put Wahoo up 39-30 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Raiders scored the first five points of the quarter to cut the lead to 39-35, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. A Waido bucket and three Scheef free throws put Wahoo up 44-35 with two minutes left in the game, and Wahoo would hold on for the win.
“We made some poor decisions with the basketball and got outrebounded again, but it was a good win over a good team, and we will take it,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Thomas Waido was really good out top defensively for us today.”
Waido and Scheef each scored 16 points. Waido was 7-8 from the field, to go with a game-high 8 steals.
Logan View out-rebounded Wahoo 25-18, but had 26 turnovers to 15 for Wahoo.
Wahoo improved to 4-0 on the season, while Logan View dropped to 3-1. The Warriors will travel to Fort Calhoun next Friday night.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Wayne Blue Devils 66-59 on Friday night in Wahoo.
The Warriors were up 7-6 midway through the first. A Braden Harris lay up, followed by a Trevor Kasischke drive, a Thomas Waido bucket, and a Trey Scheef lay up, put Wahoo up 15-6 after one quarter.
The Blue Devils battled back in the second quarter. The game was tight throughout, but a Waido trey at the halftime buzzer put Wahoo up 30-24.
Wahoo scored the first seven points of the third quarter to break the game open. A Triston Keeney drive, a Gerardo Madrid trey, and two Scheef free throws put Wahoo up 37-24. A Madrid trey at the third quarter buzzer put Wahoo up 51-37 heading to the final period.
The Warriors maintained the lead throughout the fourth quarter. Wayne was able to score the final five points of the game to make it 66-59.
“We really got dominated on the glass, which is a big concern,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “The fact that we were able to turn them over a lot made up for some of that. Gerardo Madrid had a really nice night offensively, and Triston Keeney and Trevor Kasischke were really good defensively and on the glass.”
Scheef led Wahoo with 22 points on 9-17 shooting from the field. Madrid scored 13 points on 3-5 shooting from behind the arc. Waido added 13 points. Keeney added 9 points, 8 boards, 6 steals, and 4 assists. Kasischke added 6 boards and 4 steals.
Wayne out-rebounded Wahoo 33-22, but committed 25 turnovers to just 12 for Wahoo.
Wahoo improved to 3-0, while Wayne dropped to 0-4. The Warriors host the 3-0 Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Raiders Saturday afternoon.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Aurora Huskies 48-29 on Friday night in Aurora.
Aurora led 9-7 after one quarter. Wahoo was up 17-14 late in the second quarter when Gerardo Madrid hit a trey at the halftime buzzer to put Wahoo up 20-14.
Aurora opened the third quarter with a score to make it 20-16. The Warriors then went on a 7-0 run. A Triston Keeney bucket, followed by two free throws and a trey from Trey Scheef, gave the Warriors some breathing room at 27-16.
Over the next six minutes, the Warriors went on another 8-2 run to push the lead to 35-18, with seven of those points coming from Thomas Waido, and a free throw from Trevor Kasischke.
“This was a game that was really good for us,” said Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “Aurora was incredibly patient. That is not how we want to play, but I thought we showed great poise and found a way to win a very slow, grind-it-out type of game.”
Scheef led the Warriors with 15 points on 3-6 shooting from behind the arc. Waido had 13 points on 6-8 shooting from the field to go with a game high 7 steals. Keeney added 10 points. Kasischke had a team-high 6 boards. Wahoo committed just 10 turnovers, while turning over the Huskies 20 times.
Wahoo improved to 2-0, while Aurora fell to 0-2. The Warriors will host Wayne on Friday night, and Logan View on Saturday afternoon.

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Bennington Badgers 76-59 in the season opener at home on Thursday night.
The game was close throughout the first quarter, with the Warriors leading 18-14 after one.
The game was still close midway through the second quarter. Wahoo was up 25-23, when they went on a 9-0 run. A three-point play from Trey Scheef, a Gerardo Madrid layup, followed by back-to-back buckets from Thomas Waido pushed the lead to 34-23. The half ended with Wahoo up 36-26.
An 8-0 run to open the third quarter busted the game open. A Trevor Kasischke lay up, a Scheef trey, and a Braden Harris trey made it 44-26. A Scheef trey at the end of the third quarter gave Wahoo its largest lead at 61-39. The Badgers would not mount a serious threat in the fourth quarter, and Wahoo went on to the 76-59 win.
“That was a great way to start the season. Bennington always has a tough team, and with the limited practice time due to state football, I thought we played really well,” commented Head Coach Kevin Scheef. “We played hard, and competed throughout. Our decision making has to get better, but overall it was a good first game.”
Scheef led the Warriors with 27 points on 10-19 shooting from the floor. Waido added 18 on 6-10 from the floor, and 6-7 from the line, to go with 8 boards. Harris added 10 points, Kasischke added 8 points, and Triston Keeney was a stat stuffer with 6 points, 10 boards, 5 steals and 5 assists.
The Warriors outrebounded the Badgers 36-25, and forced 25 Bennington turnovers.
The Warriors travel to Aurora on Friday night to take on the Huskies.
