Three Wahoo Elementary 4th Graders Win Annual Americanism Essay Contest
Schleiger Takes Top Prize
The American Legion Auxiliary of Wahoo, Unit 82, sponsors an annual Americanism Essay Contest, based on a theme announced each Spring.
This year’s theme was “Soldiers Past and Present – America Honor Your Veterans.” The local contest includes a 1st place prize of $25, and $15 and $10 are awarded to the second and third place winners in each grade category.
All three of this year’s winners came from Mr. Wes Kramer’s Fourth Grade Class. Caleb Schleiger was awarded 1st place at this year’s competition. Josh Abbott and Jastin Bomar-Hansen received 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Please click HERE to view Schleiger's winning essay.
Lorraine Syverson, Americanism Chairman, wrote in a letter to the Fourth Grade Teachers: “How very proud you must be of your 4th grade students. Their essays were some of the very best I’ve read in the last years I’ve been Americanism Chairman. We enjoyed reading every one of them and they all deserve to be winners.”
Schleiger will receive his prize money on May 5. He’s been asked to read his winning essay to the Legionnaires during their meeting at the Wahoo Veterans Memorial Building.
Congratulations to Caleb, Josh, Jastin and ALL of the fourth grade students that entered the contest this year.
