Wahoo Elementary Library receives generous donation in memory of Rosemary Koranda
Memorial gift used to share her passion for reading and science with students

Educators and parents appreciate the profound truth of those words, and do everything they can to instill a passion for reading in their students/children. Recently, Wahoo Elementary was blessed by a memorial donation that will help support this important mission.
The Wahoo Elementary Library has received a generous donation in memory of long-time Saunders County resident Rosemary Koranda.
Koranda was the grandmother of Wahoo Elementary 4th Grade Teacher Megan Shada, and great grandmother to third graders Alivia Shada and Avery Vasa. She passed away in November of 2019 at the age of 85, but her memory, even for those who didn't know her, will be very visible at Wahoo Elementary for many years to come.
“Grandma Rose,” as she was known, loved to bake, and had a killer sugar cookie recipe!
She also had a great passion for all things related to science, and to help share that passion with Wahoo’s students, she designated a generous gift in her memory.
These memorial funds were used to purchase numerous books over a wide range of science-related topics, as well as a variety of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) kits, which will added to the school’s existing collection.
“Grandma Rose was one of a kind!” said Shada. “She loved to read about Science, and had a large assortment of cookbooks. Grandma is greatly missed, but I know having these books available to kids in her memory would put a huge smile on her face!"
Alivia and Avery talked about how Great Grandma Rose had a huge heart, and they fondly remember how she was always smiling.
