Wahoo Middle School Chess Club Wins First Trophy at Omaha Tournament
Seventh Grade Team Takes Second at Morton Magnet Tournament
The Wahoo Middle School Chess Club gave Wahoo its first middle school chess trophy by taking second place at the Morton Magnet Tournament in Omaha on March 14.
Wahoo placed second in the junior high division, which consisted of seventh and eighth grade students. Wahoo’s strong finish came despite not having any eighth grade players. All five Wahoo seventh graders placed in the top three in their section (each student was placed in a section of six to eight students), which allowed Wahoo to place in the team competition.
Trevor Carstens captured first place for Wahoo, while his brother, Trey Carstens, and Ritchie Davidson took silver medals. Third place finishers were Michael Lacasse and Chase Rathke. Over 130 students competed in the tournament.
