6th graders practice random acts of kindness

RAK's used to encourage good citizenship

WMS 6th graders pose with their RAK wreath with numerous ribbons tied to it. Each ribbon represents a 'random act of kindness' performed by students over the past several weeks.

Wahoo Middle School sixth grade students have performed several Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) over the past several weeks.

For each RAK, the students tied a small ribbon on a wreath. The random acts of kindness had to be meaningful and performed for those outside of usual friend groups.

Each week the 6th graders had a challenge. The first week’s challenge was to do an RAK for anyone. Then, the second week’s challenge was to do an RAK for an adult. The last week’s challenge was to do an RAK for someone out of the school.  

The students also filled out a small piece of paper, telling what they did for their RAK and included their name. Every Tuesday at the 6th grade assembly, Mr. Harris drew names from students who had completed an act of kindness and the winning students chose a prize.

The wreath, which was an idea brought up by our counselor Mrs. Egr, was really successful. There ended up being hundreds of ribbons on the wreath! She even tweeted a picture of it to the Ellen DeGeneres show!
