WHS Junior Trombonist Takes the Stage at Omaha's Holland Performing Arts Center
Joe Nabity Performs with U.S. Air Force Band and Accomplished New York Philharmonic Trombonist
Wahoo High School Junior Joseph Nabity was selected to be one of the “76” trombones to perform at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha on Monday, October 20, 2008.
The “Brass in Blue” of the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band, out of Offutt Air Force Base, hosted a concert which featured principle trombonist Joseph Alessi of the New York Philharmonic.
The evening concert ended with the popular song “76 Trombones” from the Broadway hit “The Music Man”.
To make the night even more special, the Brass in Blue wanted to feature 76 trombones playing on stage; thus, invitations went out last spring to area high schools and colleges, one being Wahoo High School and Director Eric Snyder, who right away thought of Joseph.
Snyder told us how this was set up: “As soon as I got the phone call last spring from Staff Sgt. Matt Erickson, I then explained the event to Wahoo Principal Chris Arent and how I thought Joseph was perfect for this. Mr. Arent said ‘Go for it’, so I did.”
