WHS Senior Chosen for 2010 UNL Winter Winds Festival Honor Band
Kayla Coffey Selected for 3-Day, "Extremely Selective" Event
Congratulations to Wahoo High School senior Kayla Coffey on being selected for the 2010 University of Nebraska-Lincoln Winter Winds Festival Honor Band!
She will be playing clarinet in the honor band along with select students from around the United States.
The festival will be held on the campus of University of Nebraska in Lincoln from January 22-24, 2010. Not only will Coffey perform in the honor band, she will also perform in a small chamber ensemble and the honor band will have a combined performance with the UNL Wind Ensemble.
The honor band and UNL Wind Ensemble are conducted by Dr. Carolyn Barber, Director of Bands at UNL. Throughout the three-day festival, students will have full days with band rehearsals with Dr. Barber, small ensemble rehearsals with their coach, and great exposure to the School of Music at UNL and music faculty.
The Small Chamber Concert will be held in Kimball Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 23. The Festival Finale Concert will be held in Kimball Recital Hall at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 24.
"This is a great opportunity for Kayla to perform at a very high level. This extremely selective honor band will require her to work hard and prepare for the performances. She will be exposed to difficult music not only in a band setting, but in small chamber ensemble as well. Performing with the UNL Wind Ensemble will be an interactive experience and Kayla will get a great look at what college ensembles can do. Kayla is very deserving of this honor and I know this will be a positive experience for her. She will do an excellent job representing Wahoo High School," commented WHS Band Director Tim Rischling.
