Warrior Band attends annual Cornhusker Marching Band exhibition
Students witness excellence of "Pride of Nebraska"
On Friday, August 23, WMS/WHS Band Director Jason Smith took 50 students to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Thousands of excited fans traveled to hear the pride of all Nebraska! The Cornhusker Marching Band put on their annual free exhibition for the public. This event is the last day of summer camp for the college band, as they gear up for the coming football season.
Not only does the marching band go through their pre-game routine, but they also show the audience the fundamentals of marching. This includes a drill down “elimination” game, in which the whole band has to follow split-second commands in quick succession. If they are caught performing the incorrect task they are out! The last person standing wins immense bragging rights and is hoisted on shoulders.
This year’s winner was a member of the saxophone section!
WHS alumni and current members of the Cornhusker Marching Band: Lara Celesky, Cole Talbert, and Katie Pace.
There are currently three Wahoo Band Alumni in the Cornhusker Marching Band: senior Cole Talbert, sophomore Katie Pace, and freshman Lara Celesky.
The band also performed musical selections from their upcoming shows. The Cornhusker Marching Band has a long history of excellence and this year was no exception.
