WHS senior to perform Wahoo's own Howard Hanson in July 26 live podcast

WHS senior Lukas McIlhaney continues to impress!

Of the 10 flutists in Interlochen's World Youth Wind Symphony (WYWS), McIlhaney has earned 1st chair!

The 2014 WYWS consists of 75 high school students from 30 states and the United Kingdom. Through audition, they have been invited to gather at the Interlochen Center for the Arts near Traverse City, Michigan for six weeks of intense musical study. They perform roughly 40 minutes of different material every Saturday while they are there.

The only exception is the Interlochen Theme, that is performed at the end of every ensemble's performance at Interlochen. This short, but beautiful theme was composed by Wahoo's own Howard Hanson, who was instrumental in the founding of the art center and was a guest conductor there for many decades. Steeped in tradition, it is oddly and eerily considered taboo for applause to follow any performance of 'The Theme'.

The concert on Saturday, July 26 (6:00 p.m. Wahoo time) will be podcasted live at: http://live.interlochen.org/corson-camera

Along with the traditional Hanson theme that will conclude the program, the July 26 concert will also feature an arrangement of Gustav Holst's First Suite in E-Flat, and some of the first performances of the latest works by Frank Ticheli and Roshanne Etezady.

Congratulations Lukas on this very prestigious honor!
