2010 Yearbook Staff Learns Latest Technologies at Annual Publisher Workshop
Walsworth Publishing Hosts Yearly Event at Scenic Mahoney State Park
Launch the media gallery 1 playerMembers of the WHS 2010 yearbook staff took learning outside of the classroom on September 21 when they attended the annual Walsworth Yearbook Idea Workshop.
Walsworth Publishing Company, the publisher of the WHS Thunderbird for over 30 years, hosts over 90 middle schools and high schools from Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas during four fall workshops held in or around Kearney, Columbus, Omaha and Lincoln.
Kali Kramer, Mya Nicholls, Skye Sabatka and Shanly Steffes, along with yearbook adviser Carol Mertl, attended the all-day event at Mahoney State Park. Students explored theme ideas, new yearbook trends, and technology tips and tricks to help make the 2010 yearbook stand out.
“Walsworth introduces new software enhancements every year,” said Mertl. “It’s great to take a break for a day each fall to learn fun, new techniques we can use.”
Students also participate in a yearbook exchange where they can pick up a few yearbooks produced by other schools to get new ideas.
This is the tenth consecutive year the yearbook staff has attended the workshop and the second year the Lincoln-area workshop has been held at Mahoney State Park.
Previously, the workshop had been held at the Cornhusker Hotel in downtown Lincoln, but a scheduling conflict in 2008 led to the location being changed to the lodge at Mahoney and it has worked out well ever since.
