Sgt. Herndon visits WHS personal finance classes
NE National Guardsman teaches students how to choose perfect career
Students in Mrs. Shanahan’s three Personal Finance classes had the privilege of having Sgt. Christopher Herndon from the Army National Guard speak to them last week on how to choose a career.
Sgt. Herndon is a certified Battalion Career Counselor and Career Direction2 Instructor.
Sgt. Herndon gave each student a booklet that contained a plethora of information, from how to choose a career, to writing a resumé, to obtaining that dream job. Using the resources in this booklet, Sgt. Herndon had each student focus on their individual personality and interests, and from there, directed them to the appropriate career cluster(s). He also showed the students how much of their lives will be devoted to their jobs, and thus how important it is that they choose a career that they enjoy, and that aligns with their interests.
In closing, Sgt. Herndon gave the students access to a website that they can use in the future to gain more information on making sound career choices.
Student comments included: “I like that he gave us a resource (the website) that we can use in the future” . . . “he allowed me to verify that I am considering the correct career for me” . . . and “he got me excited to start thinking about a career.”
