Nebraska Congressman Visit WHS
Jeff Fortenberry Speaks to Government Students about Democracy & Current Events
On Tuesday, October 18, students from Mr. Mueller’s government classes had the unique opportunity of visiting with Congressman Jeff Fortenberry in the new Performing Arts-Learning Center.
Congressman Fortenberry, a Republican who represents the first district of Nebraska, spoke to nearly 60 juniors and seniors about the importance of democracy, the foundations of our country, and the critical issues facing our nation.
Fortenberry spoke with students for about 30 minutes on the historical foundations of our government and how that foundation affects elected representatives today.
He then opened it up to questions from students – which many felt was the most engaging part of the presentation. Numerous students asked questions on a variety of topics ranging from gay marriage and education to whether or not the Congressman supports the Keystone XL pipeline.
Overall, the event was a great opportunity for students to meet with our elected Congressman and ask him important questions that affect both Wahoo and Nebraska.
We’re grateful that Congressman Fortenberry took the time to meet with us, and we look forward to welcoming him back for future events.
