WPS Students Attend 6th Annual Hispanic/Latino Summit
Sept. 29 Conference Held in LaVista
WHS Students Erika Villarreall, Zendy Sotelo and Johnathan Morales attended the 6th Annual Hispanic/Latino Summit held September 28 at the Embassy Suites-LaVista Conference Center.
The Conference featured keynote speaker Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch, who encouraged participants to be servant leaders at work and in their community, and to live their legacy by leading with their souls.
The purpose of the summit is to increase cross-cultural understanding, showcase Hispanic/Latino student achievement success and highlight resources available to support their success. These messages were threaded through the keynote presentation and the selection of sessions the students attended.
The attending students indicated that they liked "the part when the speaker talked about her life"; "the information about how to get scholarships"; "meeting new people and seeing friends I haven't seen for a long time"; "how the great speaker kept my attention as she told about her life"; and "being shown tips on how to get into college."
When asked if they would like to attend again next year, each student smiled and gave a resounding "yes." The students were sponsored by Wahoo Elementary/Middle School Spanish Teacher Cass Griffin.
