Community Schools Come Together to Honor Veterans in Annual Assembly
Student Honor Those Dedicated to Defending Our Liberty & Freedom
Cross-town rivalry was once again put aside on Tuesday, November 13 as Wahoo High and Bishop Neumann High Schools came together for the 2012 Veterans Day Assembly, to honor all servicemen, past and present. The assembly was held at 10:00 a.m. in the Performance-Learning Center.
The annual ceremony is sponsored by the WHS Student Council.
Special guests included several local veterans from a variety of different branches, members of the Wahoo VFW Beaver-Bartek 4502 and American Legion Post 82, who opened the ceremony by posting the colors, and closed the ceremony by retiring the colors.
Also featured were the impressive combined sounds of the WHS and Neumann Concert Bands, directed by Jason and Joann Couton, and the WHS Blue & Gold and Neumann Choirs, directed by Julie Baker-Anderson and Kirk Brown.
This year's Veterans Day Message was given by Roger Lempke, who serves as the Director of Military Affairs for Senator Mike Johanns. His message focused on the importance of honoring all of veterans, past and present. Lempke encouraged students to reach to seek out a veteran, speak to them, learn their stories, and ultimately express heartfelt gratitude.
We remember and honor those who sacrificed everything, and those who served and continue to serve to defend and preserve everything that makes the United States the best country on earth!
