WHS Students Tour the Nebraska Medical Center

Opportunity Offered through New Medical Career Academy

WHS students Taylor Flessner, Merik Eaton, and Hailey Zetocka practice their measuring and mixing skills in the pharmacy lab.

Three Wahoo High School students, Taylor Flessner, Merik Eaton, and Hailey Zetocka, who are a part of the new Medical Career Academy, toured the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha on Thursday, April 2.

The three students, along with students from Ashland, Raymond Central, Waverly, and Norris, participated in four different tours and demonstrations while at the Medical Center.

The first presentation was in the Donate Life Services. Students heard an interesting presentation on organ and tissue donation. Students also got to see human organs up close.

The second presentation was on a Clinical Skills Lab. Students got to see first hand how medical students train and practice on medical simulators that can simulate most any medical condition.

WHS junior Hailey Zetocka gets a feel for what it is like to be inside a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber.

The third presentation was on the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber. Students got to listen to the benefits of patients getting treatments in a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber, and the students themselves got to lie inside the chamber.

The fourth presentation was on the the College of Pharmacy. Students learned about the Pharmacy profession, and did a medical exercise in measuring medicine.
