Veterans Day: a day to remember those who fought for our country.
Veterans are the ones who put their lives at stake for our freedom. Sometimes veterans do not receive the gratitude and recognition they deserve, but that was not the case recently at Wahoo High School.
The choirs and bands from both schools united. The bands played a medley of each military branch’s anthem. As they played each theme song the veterans from that branch stood up in recognition for their service. The choirs also sang a medley in recognition of each military branch.
"Performing with the combined bands and choirs is such a great experience, and one that we look forward to each year," said WHS senior Joe Nabity.
The guest speaker was Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, an alumnus of Wahoo High School. He gave a resounding speech about why Veterans Day is important and the important role that veterans have played in our history. He commended all of our armed forces, thanking them for their service, and encouraged all students to thank a veteran for their service.
A moment of silence concluded the assembly, followed by the playing of “Taps” by Carrie Nabity and Paula Bird.
"I look forward to Veterans Day each year. It is a great opportunity for our community to come together as one and celebrate our nation's veterans," said WHS Government Instructor Ryan Mueller.
It was a fantastic assembly in tribute to those who fought, and continue to fight, for us. Thank you to Mr. Mueller for all his hard work and preparation to put on this assembly. And most of all thank you to all of our veterans for risking their lives to allow us all the opportunities and freedoms that we are able to enjoy in the United States of America.

Rhonda Obert | Nov 14, 2009 | I was not able to attend this year's assembly, but greatly appreciated watching the video posted above. Thank you for that opportunity. Mr. Mueller has once again honored our veterans in an outstanding fashion. It was wonderful to see so many veterans atttended the assembly. Thanks to all of the students who participated in this year's event, and to the combined choir and band. What an awesome display of unity between these two schools for our community and our veterans! |
