Agriculture takes center stage at PLC
Friends of Saunders Co. 4-H & Extension Foundation hosts community gathering
Launch the media gallery 1 playerOn Sunday, Jan. 18, Friends of Saunders County 4-H and Extension Foundation hosted a gathering in the Performance-Learning Center to view the movie "Farmland."
Though life throughout Saunders County is heavily influenced by agriculture, many people across the county and our nation have never set foot on a farm or ranch. Through the movie, spectators were introduced to six young farmers and ranchers across the U.S. Each character told their story about modern agriculture and how they contribute to America's breadbasket and mealtime.
One goal of the film is to bridge the gap between food growers and food consumers by presenting farmers' and ranchers' perspectives on producing food.
One of the farmers featured hails from Carroll, Nebraska. David Loberg is a fifth-generation farmer who grows corn and soybeans, and custom feeds 500 head of dairy cattle. He was present at the movie showing and, afterward, answered questions from the audience of nearly 200 people.
