WHS AP Spanish Students trek to Omaha to experience Hispanic Flamenco Ballet

Field Trip offers students immersion into Spanish & Latin American cultures

Yesterday, the 2018 WHS AP Spanish students went on a field trip in Omaha at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center to see the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet.

The first show had many different types of dances from Latin American countries, ranging from Mexico to Argentina. We saw many different types of dances including the Bamba, the Salsa, the Cumbia, the Bachata, the Merengue, and the Tango. The students said this was their favorite show because it was flamboyant, colorful, and full of energy.

In the video below, Jon Barraza and Mattie Pfeiffer are seen dancing onstage at the end of the performance.

The second show contained many different folkloric dances from Spain. They covered different regions such as Galicia, Madrid, and Andalucia. Many of the performers were from Spain and were able to provide a natural flair to the performance. These songs and dances had a much more historic feel to them and the students mentioned that they seemed to tell a story.

This was a fantastic opportunity for our AP Spanish students to become immersed in the culture of Latin America and Spain.
