WHS Sophomores Meet Bestselling Novelist Ellen Hopkins
Popular YA Author Holds a Sept. 13 Visit/Book-signing in Omaha
Launch the media gallery 1 playerEllen Hopkins has been one of the most popular young adult authors at Wahoo High School and in the world for the past five years.
Eight WHS sophomores and their English teacher, Mr. Larry Fangman, had the chance to meet Hopkins at the Millard Branch of the Omaha Public Library on Tuesday night, September 13.
Hopkins, the author of the novels Crank, Glass, Impulse, Burned, Identical, Tricks, Fallout, and her new book, Perfect, spoke to a crowd of 100 students, and then autographed copies of her books and posed for pictures with students.

Launch the media gallery 3 playerHopkins said her first novel, Crank, was based upon her own daughter's addiction to meth. That daughter is now 32, and after six years of sobriety, suffered a relapse. Crank has sold more than two million copies, and has been published in eight countries.
Hopkins said she writes or thinks about what she is going to write everyday. She starts the novel-writing process by taking notes on her characters until she knows everything about them. After she feels she knows them as people, she starts writing the book.
Hopkins felt excited to be in Omaha because she said it was “the birthday” of her novel, Perfect. Omaha was the first place she has autographed copies of her new book.
“I felt inspired by her life stories,” said sophomore Ashley Brandt.
Other WHS students attending were Melissa Foster, Jessica Pope, Tymber States, Holly Underwood, Haley Wagner, Melissa Watson, and Rhiley Wood.
